Dude I don't know. Maybe that is just you. Polite and shit. It's all good man, don't fret. It's not a good or bad thing, it's just a different thing. We can aspire to do something different sure, but you gotta' get comfortable with where you're at to be comfortable with where you are going.

I think I was pidgeon holed into what my experience of socialization should aim to be. I think most people have balance with their socialization and are responsible with how they apply it. Your response, it's very obvious that is the case. I suppose it's sometimes hard to gauge the level of "social responsibility" with some of the relatively brief things you read on the internet. But yes, what you say makes perfect sense, and I definitely appreciate the sentiment about it being like art. For me,…

Thank you for connecting it to the running example, I can digest/understand that. I think we are quickly getting to discussion on philosophy. (Just like wikipedia!) At that point I like to meditate on the discussion. I think I'll work on understanding your perception of this (and I think I've started.) But thank you for your receptive responses! I think I'll gain some insight from it.

I'd like to dig a bit deeper with you. The interaction that you like is this essentially vulnerable state surrounding sex. If you'll allow me to draw out a metaphor; this is the end of the race/sprint that is dating/socialization etc. Its a very nice prize at the end of the road. A common adage among marathon runners is to train enough to run the race and enjoy every mile. Because the joy isn't the satisfaction of crossing the finish line. The feeling of accomplishment is drawn from the long con…

Everyone has a different way of percieving things. It seems that you are rather logical and analytical in your thinking. Others would prefer to be natural and emotional. Either are fine. However, all these things have their high's and low's. The real key is to strike a balance between the two. In terms of your interactions and your descriptions I would say you are on the side of too much thinking. Just from observation of the subreddit, even here, you are in the higher levels of applying logical…

Well I can see your point to an extent, that's it's very rooted in society and it feels like change isn't possible. If I see sexist overtones, it's well worth defending and clarifying. I sort of feel obligated because not saying anything is as bad as agreeing with it. Hell, by not arguing against the status quo of these gender roles, you put yourself in a position to become comfortable with it (as evidence of your response shows) and not be cognizant of possible sexist overtones. So for me it's …

Yea, I'd have to agree. I think TeaStains is looking at this historically, and only propagating the bias. It's unfortunate that there is still a gender bias, and it's subtely found it's role in these archtypes. One example being, the "Alpha" male. As if confidence only belongs to a male. It's definitely a two-way street and those types of terms (when not applied to both genders, only seeks to differentiate and bias them.) Sorry to rag on you TeaStain, but i heartily disagree.

Just wondering on your intrepretation (this might be going too far) but in her saying "I'm so glad that you had the balls to come up and talk to me" does it show her ignorance to the unbalanced male/female bias in terms of initiating? She is making a possible statement that if he didn't approach her, he didn't have the balls to do it. It's hypocritical for her to say that when she didn't "have the balls to do it" in the first place. Of course she could have just meant, "I'm glad you approached m…

Damn, I can't help but think of the double standard here. If she's so relieved that you talked to her, and is so happy that you did it. Why didn't she do it? That's evidence for some damn strong societal pressure right there. So, i must conclude that for a girl to initiate with you, it's a nearly guaranteed connection right there (assuming you are attracted to the approaching girl.) Because she is having to overcome not only the normal confidence it takes to approach a stranger but also an overw…

Start your day, and brush your teeth with your opposite hand. I want you to start breaking the routine every chance after that. The idea is that you are going to build up momentum. Just keep breaking habits and trying something new. Force yourself to try the new thing and see it to completion. I'm even talking about the small stuff, like what hand holds the spoon for cereal. Be uncomfortable and adjust and persevere. If you apply this mentality to approaching it might be easier, it's just someth…

I think something to look into to putting into your routine is meditation practice. I've learned to calm myself through free-diving. I know that sounds wierd, but as a kid I would always swim and dive deep in the pools. It's helped me build up my mammalian reflex, and build up the mental strength to calm down to conserve oxygen. I relate it to meditating because it takes focus and a letting go to properly do it. When I go into my "dive" mode I can literally feel the tensing of my muscles (that I…

I mean, front page is pretty convenient to read. But realistically, these types of marathon dating strategies, do they leave much time to do stuff? (Exaggeration for comedic effect btw.)

Could anyone explain to me how this isn't extreme? I mean... I have classwork to do. Ain't nobody got time for 'dat. I'd like to try something like this, but this seems, ironically, desperate in of itself.

In a moment of inspiration after my post... I continued the metaphor at this post if you'd like to read. I'm glad it made sense to you at some level.

I'm going to stoke your imagination, so that you'll come up with it yourself, and not lose your character/personality in the process. Imagine... Joe. He's your average Joe. His face is blank, because he could be anyone, he even could be you. Now you know you aren't Joe, you're an individual. But some days you feel like you're average, like you are blending in. Joe is average; looks, personality, charm, and confidence. You maintain a physical and mental personal space, and you quietly maintain th…

Being considered creepy, means your intentions are coming on too strongly, and you arn't able to control these expressions. Which tells me you lack rudimentary people skills. So... Be genuinely interested in people. Don't invade people's space/lives by trying to hit on them. You should develop your people skills before your seduction skills. This includes carrying a conversation that's 100% non-sexual, respecting people's beliefs/opinions, showing restraint and inquiring about people and their i…

"Maybe! What are you interested in?" Now you're talking about her.

Just hearing the word deprivation makes me think it's not along the lines of the meditating I'd like to participate in. I would look into what was mentioned above, "Mindfulness in Plain English." Mindfulness looks to be a very positive influence to have, and I would look into that.
