People are islands, we can all agree to that at some level I think. Our thoughts are our own and what we claim to be ours is different and infinitely varied. We all exist in a pool of knowledge that is vast and infinitely varied. There's only one way for us to communicate, and that is to share ideas. That means to take a piece of yourself and give it the other person, or inquire about a piece of the other person. You may already be seeing the metaphor, but I'll reset the scene with these basic ideas laid out.

There is an ocean, it's society and human knowledge. We all exist in it as islands, we take what we like about the ocean (suddenly, volcanoes, volcanoes everywhere) and add it to our island. Some islands will be big with lots of different pieces or some are small and you'll know every inch of it. Regardless, the qualities of islands feels very akin to a person. Our communication, is bridges between the islands. It's a very physical and mechanical way to connect two separate islands of knowledge. Words are cars, they carry the purpose of the bridge in the first place, to share these packets of ourselves to the other person. Finally confidence, it works behind the scenes and to make our transfer of ourselves succesfull. It's the bridge's support. Confidence holds up our connections with people in life. You have a lot of confidence? You get to build a big bridge, or a lot of bridges between islands. Your bridge can go places others have a hard time getting to.

To bring it back to the theme of seduction; confidence is not working at the same level as sharing pieces of yourself. Confidence is under the bridge holding it up. Let yourself speak for yourself, don't let your confidence speak for you.
