Do you mean that the fear of loneliness kept you from leaving for a long time or do you mean that loneliness brought you to the point of leaving? I’ve been lonely in this marriage a really long time. There’s always been this disconnect I feel about what’s important to each of us in terms of maintenance of the relationship.

This is such a difficult question and one that I’m struggling with as well. And truly the point already made here in the comments seems a valid one. I keep coming back to this issue of ‘what would I want someone to do for me prior to leaving if they felt it was nearly over but were not sure?’. I feel like I would want her to at least try.
