I don't think the law allows anyone to "divorce" themselves from child support payments. The guy didn't pay child support when the kid was growing up because he didn't have the money. Now that he does have money, the ex wants him to make-good on the missed child support plus interest, fees, etc.

Some articles state that the original divorce did not have a child support order attached to it because the dad was poor. The ex never received any child support so she wants accrued child support.
