IMO, we are raised to be 'soft' because raising strong, intelligent men is hard to do right. Parents would rather have a submissive child that follows their every instruction and demand than have a difficult child that stands up for themselves. It starts there, then boys don't know how to interact with their testosterone, with their boys, and with girls as well.
