Good read. I made the mistake of thinking something was a shit test when she was actually trying to get to know me (where do you work?). The key here is not trying to come up with a witty comeback for each type of test, but rather be in a state so that you can comfortably answer any question, regardless of her intent. Keep your frame no matter what is asked and calibrate whether you need to be cocky/funny or more serious/intimate. Good post.

I appreciate the honest feedback. This is all new to me, and I recognize I need to work on calibration and situational awareness. This will come with practice. The points you make and frozzengrizzly below make about how the woman isn't necessarily trying to game me, but rather just trying to get to know me are solid. I suppose we've all done that - ask the first thing that pops into our head. Again, that's a calibration thing I need to work on and see things for what they really are. Thanks

Eventually the alpha was just talking to him in the group setting, but Nick didn't appear weak, just someone who was going along with the conversation. It kept the focus on him without him having to add any…

There is a good section on this in the book How to Win Friends and Influence People. The basic idea is that people are attracted to those who listen to them. When you think about what you are going to say next in a conversation, people pick up on it. Your non-verbal communication gives you away. It comes across as unattractive since you appear to be more interested in what you haven't even said yet rather than what they have to say. The author says, "to be interesting, be interested." From a pra…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
