Phone calls work for vetting, for you, and that's okay. It doesn't have to feel comfortable for everyone. Personally, I'm not interested in giving my number to someone I barely know and talking to them on the phone unless I've texted them for a bit. This can be generation, regional, variance in communication preference, technology preference, a whole lot of things. One isn't inherently right or inherently better.
