I am also a single dad. Finding the time to date feels impossible. Plus I feel like I’m abandoning my kid or pouring salt in the wound when I leave my daughter home alone. Thankfully my ex fucked up my head so bad that I’d rather be alone than risk getting involved with the wrong person again. So I focus more on what makes me happy instead of validating my self worth through a relationship.

This post was directly under yours in my feed and it made me chuckle. I couldn’t share the screenshot, so here’s the link. https://www.reddit.com/r/scoopwhoop/s/gVIcOylY8k I’m happily single now :)

I’m sorry for what you’ve been put through. My story is very similar. By the end I had no emotions anymore. I’m not sad, I’m not happy, I’m not angry, I just wanted out. I can finally breathe again, in my own house. I can sleep through the night instead of waking up in a panic to the sound of footsteps or random things slamming around somewhere in the house. I don’t have to go sleep in my car, or walk the neighborhood at night just to be away from her and her “episodes”, no more spending evening…

Even if she didn’t know, it’ll still be blamed on you. I know exactly the type of person you’re married to because I’m married to one too. Instead of calling a different dentist because my current insurance no longer works with our usual one. She wants me to quit my job if 20 years where I have a great pay rate and 5 weeks vacation, so that she doesn’t have to find a new dentist. And I’m a loser and my employer is garbage because of it. There’s no reasoning with people like this.

Which is exactly why he should document it, so that when the inappropriate thing happens, it doesn’t look like a single event that is unlikely to repeat. If the event is tied to a pattern of behavior, the event is more likely to re-occur, or at least be taken more seriously.

The default assumption, I think, is that divorce is always the man’s fault. He was either emotional unavailable, didn’t help around the house enough, worked too much, didn’t help with the kids, didn’t earn enough, didn’t try hard enough to keep the marriage intact, and even if he did all those things… it’s supposed to be for better or for worse, and traditional masculine stereotypes have the man as the provider, protector, lover, and man of his word. We are expected to be superhuman, but we’re n…

Success is the greatest revenge. She won this battle. But you will win the war. You will survive, you will persevere. You will eventually stop paying her and start paying yourself. She will grow old and undesirable. While men as they age often become more attractive. A hero doesn’t become a hero by walking a path free from enemies and obstacles. This is your redemption arc.

I’ve met a lot of divorced men and honestly the best thing you can do to be a good parent to your daughter is be there when you can. Younger kids need consistency and love from their parents. if she’s not getting one or both of those from mom, but she does get it from you. It will be good for her and will strengthen your relationship in the long run. Consistent safety and love, even if it’s boring is really good. Even if she doesn’t appreciate it now, or actively complains that she’s bored. It’s…
