I am not angry at all? I have had a few boyfriends since being diagnosed, all of them informed. You seem incredibly rude and like a troll.

I had money and health insurance for a standard STD panel. Was not aware at the time these facts about herpes or that it was not included on a panel.

It will tell people facts about herpes so they can avoid herpes. Duh. No one WANTS anyone to get herpes. Also men lie about shit. Here's the truth! Take it or leave it.

You've literally been typing in exclamation points and accusing me of things that aren't true, which is very rude. Unfortunate that people are trying to educate other women about a virus over half of the human population has, that is important to know in dating, on a womens dating sub? Okay.

It is an informed decision if you are informed about STD's? Part of this post was making it clear that herpes is not always an STD. Is it an STD if a child gets it from sharing a drink with his mother? I don't see what is being argued here. If you still don't want to date people with herpes, that's totally fine. I would personally just prefer people made that choice based on facts and not stigma. Stigma is socially derived. Facts are from data.

I think being informed about this can help someone's strategy since it is so highly prevalent in the entire world. If you don't find it helpful, no need to give it attention. No one follows every single strategy or bit of advice here completely. Maybe this info isn't important in your dating. But it could really help others.

I don't see where I said something wasn't a big deal for everyone else, only for myself. It's absolutely your right to filter 78% of all human beings over a non lif threatening illness (because that is my view on it). I only had curiosity as to how you would logically and effectively do that. Ultimately it's not my business what you do. I don't actually care. I just hope you absorbed the information so you can make truly informed choices about your body, and hopefully not support the stigma. Tha…

Where is boundary shaming? Please quote it directly. Also, oral to genital transmission is about 40% of cases of HSV 1.

This is truth and exactly what I was told when I asked why I was denied testing the first times I tried.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/02/20 06:07 PM

When did I question your boundaries? I'd be happy to address it. If "lowering your standards" means making an educated choice when a man discloses herpes to you, or even lies to you, instead of making a blanket statement "STD's are bad!" without actually knowing anything, then I don't really understand what that standard is. But regardless, it's merely information. Uncomfortable information, but it's the truth, which is important.

I'm just confused why you keep going on about your boundaries when no one said you had to change them. This post was about education about herpes and the fact that it's hard to really pin down as a virus unless you have it on paper 100%, and that can also be a challenge. You seem to think awareness about STD's is someone telling you you have to accept them in a partner. No one ever said that. This wasn't about anyone's personal standard. But you do need to accept facts about them and accept that…

Nobody said that your body was not your choice. And no one asked for "access to you". This entire post was purely about information.

I was in Florida in the USA when I actually did this. I'm simply being real about my experience. If you found an easy and cheap way to get tested and you actually did it, kudos! And it's excellent info to share. Your biting sarcasm and "calling me out" (for what, I'm not sure?) is unnecessary. I was tested in 2015. Other people's comments about testing seem to hold about the same experience overall, aside from one person. Not sure what the anger is all about here.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/02/20 05:42 PM

It was more about education and awareness in general. That, on its own, fights stigma.

But I never asked anyone to lower their standards? I posted an informational post about a very common and misunderstood STD. It can really only be beneficial to know the facts.

I haven't deleted any posts that I know of? What was deleted? And no, this is the first time I've ever discussed this here. Never even saw that other post, I will look for it. This was a purely factual and educational post. I never said anything about anyone's standards. I just hoped it would be informational for anyone who encounters someone with herpes or gets herpes when they're dating. Actually, I just hoped it would be informational to anyone, period. You seem quite upset.

I don't think anyone does. But since the virus is, a majority of the time, asymptomatic, you likely wouldn't even have that. Which I would hope is some small comfort in the whole thing...
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/02/20 04:50 PM
11

Why even? If you're asymptomatic and get it, you'll never even feel or see anything. I was symptomatic and I had one slightly itchy bump (which is what prompted me to get tested) and since then, I've never had anything and maybe never will. The fear about it is really a bit ridiculous, in our society.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/02/20 04:44 PM

Again, asymptomatic carriers can still easily both have and transmit the virus. Please read the post in its entirety or refer to the WHO link provided.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/02/20 04:37 PM

you should go look at the post I just made on the sub about herpes. Most herpes infections show no symptoms at all. You can still easily get it from someone with nothing "unpleasant to look at". I really urge you to become educated about this if you're really that concerned about it.

Please don't call yourself a sexual pariah. You're not any less of a human being for this shit. I consider herpes an excellent litmus test for men I like. If he nopes out immediately, he's not right for me. If he takes the time to read the information and think critically, he impresses me. I've almost never been rejected for having herpes, and the two times the guy noped out, he was both inexperienced and not LTR material. It's a good test to see if someone cares for you more than just as a sex …
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/02/20 04:22 PM
10

My source for that was from a doctor's mouth. I just looked for something on World Health Org to support it but it focused more on oral to genital and oral to oral transmission. I will also note that, in the case of an asymptomatic carrier, location of the virus cannot be determined, only the strain. So if you're intending to blood test all of your suitors, you likely will never know exactly where they have it.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/02/20 04:16 PM
13

Why exactly is genital herpes a No Go and oral herpes is a maybe, when it's likely the same strain of virus? With HSV-1 you are actually at a much lower risk of genital to genital or genital to oral transmission, vs oral to oral or oral to genital, due to the characteristics of the virus. Stigma against specifically genital herpes, and not oral herpes, makes no sense.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/02/20 04:04 PM
17

It was not easy or cheap for me to be tested for it, I had to go to three different clinics before they were willing to do it and it was not covered by my health insurance.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/02/20 04:00 PM
13

The fact is, Herpes was never a concern at all until the pharmaceutical industry decided to capitalize on it in the 70's by selling anti-viral drugs. In order to make the sale of these drugs truly profitable, the stigma was promoted. Nothing sells medicine like fear. Anti viral drugs are helpful but even they don't bring the risk of transmission to 0%. They do lower it, however, and are encouraged for anyone who is diagnosed and feels themselves or agrees with their partner that it is necessary.

The CDC seems to agree that it's not a big deal, as has every single doctor and nurse I have discussed it with since being diagnosed. If you check the statistics, it is estimated that about 78% of the population under the age of 50 has one of the two types (you typically cannot get both strains due to antibodies in your immune system), and that just seems an alarmingly high number of individuals to blacklist based on a benign skin condition that the medical community deems of such little worth t…

Your preferences are your right, but I do wonder how you will weed out such a high percentage of the population, especially since a majority have no idea they even have it and many don't show symptoms, as well as it's not easy or cheap to get tested for it.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/02/20 03:32 PM

Your perspective is exactly the issue of herpes stigma and why discussion and education about it needs to be increased. The fact that you single out genital herpes as "gross" and completely disregard oral herpes in that statement is laughable, because they are the exact same virus. I'm fixated on the fact that you're talking about an extremely common skin condition like a high schooler on a sub that is meant to be educational, empowering, and self aware. I'm sure many people on this sub have one…

herpes is not normal? google it first and then tell me what you see. herpes is very normal, very common, and hidden in our society by terms like "cold sore, fever blister, etc." The fact that your perspective on something like this is that it's "super gross" makes me think you must be very young. Herpes is not always an std, as I above said, many children get it from their own mothers kissing their faces as babies. She definitely embodies the modern Cool Girl pickmeisha mentality, imo. She cited Avril Lavigne as one of her main inspirations for her persona, and Avril Lavigne has ALWAYS been the epitome of the Cool Girl "one of the guys" kind of person, and then she evolved into an Eternal Jailbait role even long after she was past that age, dressing like a scenegirl middle schooler and her music became just awful. "Girlfriend" is like a pickme anthem. She stays relevant by never evolving or changing beyond…

oh wow I didn't know either of those things. This is why I think everyones views about this will be very subjective, based on what they know of the celebrity background. Jada Smith made it public that their relationship is open? does she sleep with other men?

To be fair, it's estimated 3/4 people in the world have herpes (hsv1 is typically oral but can also be genital, hsv2 is dominantly genital) and most people that have it don't know, it's not included on standard STD checks and not considered a major health issue by specialists or the medical community. If you've ever had a cold sore, you have herpes. The worst thing about herpes is the stigma. Passing it on to children at birth is a small chance and easily preventable by both c section and anti v…

Ultimately she let her body go and got very overweight and did not want to change her life and try the gym, or she would have known that she could be very fit and sexy in her 30's. idk, we parted ways, way different life goals.

I have been in two genuinely abusive relationships in my life. One of them landed me in court attempting to get a restraining order, which was denied. I was physically abused in both. I stayed in both due to being young and believing this fairy tale trope of "my love is so genuine and deep and special that he will HAVE to realize how lucky he is that I give him chances when he begs me, and change." Never happened and one of these men actually had been abusing another woman at the same time, I ca…

it's true though, look at a guys house next time and see how many bottles of lotion there is, then look at him. Does his face look moisturized and maintained? does his body? probably not.

they're gross because they've learned they don't have to try to be exceptionally cute to get pussy, or they're entitled ans have mommy issues, or they think it's "gay" to take care of yourself. So many men I have met are only 30 or so and have terrible wrinkles and crows feet simply because they won't put on moisturizer. They'll lather lotion on their dick everyday to masturbate, but won't put it on their face to look atrractive to actual women. 🙄

To be honest, I think it's both a "good distraction" from real life and it serves as a temporary boost/ego stroke that makes real life seem less shitty for a little while. It's a shot of dopamine and pleasure to the brain. I think social conditioning and testosterone both play a role in how strongly it's reinforced in the brain, for men. But women can also be highly sexual and have higher sex drives than some men, I've definitely dated men who had relatively low sex drives (and did not use porn …
