You have to make a difference between alimoney and child support. Luckily since I never married there was no alimoney. But child support was chosen through court here in Belgium. It was decided at 560€ for 3 kids. Now with index calculation it is 585€. But since one of the kids now lives at my place I don't pay for his part of alimoney.

Doctor bills, toys, school supply, food, .. In my country we say a kid when he is fully adult and supply for itself, it has costed the same as small house. In my case since there is one with autisme, one with adhd and the last one with a problem that makes it difficult to walk, it will cost more like gigantic house. All that stress is not worth it. I love my kids but if I could go back I would have gone for a vasectomy at 18.

I am in the same boat. 13 year old has odd. Although I am a very strict dad, he tends to keep in charge. 9 year old daughter can't sit still and last one has a genetic issues which makes his ligaments way to soft. With me the kids are behaving but with the ex they are not so nice. I was convinced that kids are so easy and fun. But in laws and ex-wife. Should have stayed with my instincts and said no kids for me.

When I had the trial on deciding the amount of child support, my first attorney (man) left his job to work somewhere else. Had to continue with his colleague who didn't know shit. And off course female judge in front of me. Now when I see, I pay more then some. But it's manageable after I had changed to a better paying job. And now I'm counting down the years for the kids to be 18 and to be free.

Life during time of our grandparents didn't include to have so much matérialisme. They had way less and because of that a family with only one income could afford a house easily and still go on vacation 2 times a year. Thx, luckily I bought my own house 4 years ago. Fixed it up and put it out to rent. I've let the tenants know that I will be living in this house. So now it's waiting that they leave.
