You know there is always the other side of the coin. My wife may not feel the same way about me that she did three decades ago, but she does still care to a certain extent. She did her best to help me through my recent bout with Covid and then a broken foot. The idea of heading into my last years alone and estranged from someone who does care at least a little about me is scary too.

No worries, you didn’t say anything anyone else I confided in hasn’t said. I feel like when someone has been married as long as we have all most people see is the couple and can’t imagine that anything could go south. We literally only know a handful of people who knew either of us before we were married. The thought of being alone at this juncture is terrifying to me and even more terrifying is the thought of what getting divorced would do to me financially. I got some decent feedback here and …

I actually did talk to my wife a couple of times. She seemed to get it, but nothing got any better and the last time all she said was "thanks for telling me how you feel."
