the brains of women and men are identical. ...But... Weren't people saying that Trans people are able to be distinguished from non-trans people because they have brain structures/formations that appear more like the opposite sex? That can't be the case if male and female brains are supposedly "identical". So which side of the progressive stack is full of shit here? The Trans community or these morons?

I'm more attracted to the first one's face (I like clean-shaven men). And both of them are a little too muscular for my preferences. I generally prefer an ottermode physique in men. If I absolutely had to choose on photo only, I'd go with the first one because the facial hair on number two really doesn't do it for me at all.

In the end, I think that people should sleep with as many or as few people as they want as long as they're smart/safe about it and both parties are properly informed as to where they stand. If you want to wait until marriage, go for it. If you want to be the town bicycle, you do you. However, no other person should be expected to equally respect your life choices later down the line. If someone who slept around with 300 men meets the perfect guy who is then turned off by her promiscuous history,…

I consider myself more red pill than blue pill, and I also prefer to call myself an egalitarian, because I think feminism these days is treated like a female superiority movement by a large fraction of feminists, and so I generally prefer to avoid that bullshit like the plague. As for MRAs, I know there are some bad ones, and I generally choose not to align with that group because of similar image issues, but between the two groups, I do think that MRAs have many more legitimate grievances than …

I have different groups and different closeness levels with all of them. Our standard "Friday night games" group consists of my husband and I and four other constants. I'd consider these people my best friends, people I'd do just about anything for. We used to live with two of them in the same house and it was glorious, and since we've moved out they've said they would've sold their house to buy one closer to us if they were in a better financial position. There are others that occasionally come…

I'd be like, oh, okay. No biggie. If by some odd chance I was SUPER horny in that moment, rather than be pissed that he's not into it right now, I'd just go quickly deal with it myself and then get back to doing whatever we then wanted to do together. I can't imagine that scenario going any other way. I mean, it's clearly intended to be a pointed question regarding the opposite scenario, but even then I think it'd be weird for a guy to get pissed off if she's not interested (unless this is a sit…

Well, kudos for gracefully accepting criticism and acknowledging your weaknesses at least. If you can do this in your talk with your ex (if he allows it, of course), he might be more willing to give you a second chance. Everyone is guilty of saying stuff they don't mean every now and then, but when I put my foot in my mouth with my husband, I make sure to apologize for being a bonehead and I NEVER try and turn things around on him. Shifting blame may make you feel good temporarily but it's a bul…

Good for you! Nobody's perfect, and the fact that you've started to question your old behaviours and make positive changes puts you miles ahead of a lot of people. I'm glad that it seems to be working well for you. I hope you continue to improve and succeed in your relationship.

You've never been so heartbroken... even though you broke up with someone OVER TEXT that you claimed to be so head over heels with on a stupid whim. You didn't attempt to have an adult conversation to communicate how his cancellations were making you feel. Or, wow, maybe even asked him why he kept cancelling or checked if he was doing okay (crazy, I know). Instead, you decided to "show him" by breaking up with him. Over text. The end of your relationship, that YOU ENDED (and then regretted, but …

I've only had two dicks inside me before (average and above average), and of the two, the average one was (is) much preferable. I mean, there are size queens out there, but I really think that most women don't care so much.

First of all, as someone who was begged to do things I didn't care to do in my previous relationship, it's really okay to tell them to go away if they keep pestering about it. It's seriously disrespectful if a partner doesn't respect your boundaries and keeps insisting on things you aren't interested in or don't like. On the other hand, if you legitimately wanted to try and make it feel less uncomfortable for you, there are a few things you could experiment with. For example, you could try takin…

And red pillers say WOMEN are solipsistic. The fact that you assume that women show affection towards their significant others just to SPITE YOU is ridiculous. You view half of the human species in such a one-dimensional manner that it's really no wonder that you have no success in relationships. This kind of attitude towards others is cancer for any personality, in men or women. I hold disdain for any woman who thinks all men are stupid player dicks out for nothing but sex and occasionally foot…

Having been with someone my opposite first, and with someone much more similar to me second, I can safely say that, while the first relationship was interesting to start, we quickly found that our differences eventually pulled us apart more than anything. Not just in our incompatibilities in major elements (sexual, financial, etc.) but even down to our hobbies. In the end, we were barely even doing anything with each other anymore because he found my hobbies boring and I found his to be too outl…

Asexuality, fine. I think most people can accept the fact that there are some folks that have very low or no libido. The rest of those terms are horseshit though. I would bet my left ass cheek on the fact that they'll never make it into the common vernacular, and if anyone tried to use one of those labels in casual conversation you'd see a slew of proverbial question marks above people's heads. You'd inevitably have to explain it every single time the word left your mouth and I guarantee that it…

Every plane trip has the possibility of ending in a crash. Swimming in the ocean could potentially lead to you getting eaten by a shark. Leaving your home in general carries the possibility of all kinds of terrible shit happening throughout the day. These are all very unlikely occurrences that we usually try to tell people not to be afraid of. Why? Because these are all irrational fears which we like to refer to as "phobias". Phobias are often unpleasant and tend to hold people back from doing t…

Oh my god, the melodrama in that article makes me want to tear my hair out. I can't believe how unsympathetic they are to the fact that this is the same thing that men go through when they aren't able to see their children at all, let alone short periods of time.

You know, I have had a guy follow me in his car. He pulled up to the curb to try to motion me over. Twice. Then I turned around and tried to walk back home, as the bag of chips I wanted from the convenience store wasn't worth this bullshit. The guy actually turned his car around and followed me into my cul de sac, and when I hid behind a car in the hopes he wouldn't see me, he circled around again. It was one of the scariest things I've ever had happen. But you know what? I didn't generalize my …

Someone posted this shit on my Facebook Feed yesterday. I called them out on the fact that calling people names because they don't subscribe to your particular banner is not productive in the slightest. I'm pretty sure I wasted my time, but I nevertheless resent the notion that, because I'm not a feminist I'm all of a sudden a sexist, a misogynist, or a gender traitor.

My husband and I have talked about it and he probably will not be present for the birth. When he was 19, his ex got pregnant (she told him she was on the pill, but she was either deliberately misleading or was simply really bad at taking them, he's not quite certain). Being completely unprepared and terrified at that stage of his life, he said the birth process was one of the most traumatizing things he's ever been through. I understand this situation completely coloured his experiences of birth…

Okay, so then in the real world, why would any man want to work when their women will make more for less work anyway? Hell, assuming they can even get the job, with equality measures ensuring that they're the last to be chosen on the list of people to hire. If the hypothetical woman in the other guy's dubious example truly just sees a man as existing for her benefit, I doubt this system will work well for her. This isn't even my belief in the way things work. If you're wanting someone to defend …

Let's use an example of Jack and Sally. The logic is thus: Sally is a woman who believes Jack exists solely for her benefit. Everything he does is to make her happy. Jack has a well-paying job and buys Sally every little thing her heart could ever desire while she basically does nothing but sit around and look nice. All of a sudden, thanks to a big feminist outcry, there is a new rule at Jack's job that says that there must be an equal number of men and women. Jack is therefore one of the unluck…

Putting aside the blatant generalizations for a moment, even if I were the sort to believe that men exist for my benefit, feminists actively working to screw over men would therefore not be to my benefit, and therefore, there would be a sizable difference between feminists and "the average woman". Logic. It's a good thing from time to time.

It's not just in the UK. In Canada, the GST is 5% on the dollar and the PST is variable. If a box of pads or tampons is five-ten dollars, that means I'm spending at least an extra $0.25-$0.50 per box. But hell, let's go bonkers and bump it up to an extra full dollar per box because we're big spenders like that. Let's say a box lasts me three months. That would mean I'd need to buy four boxes over the course of a year. So in spending upwards of $40 on feminine products over a year, my heightened …

No, I haven't. Perhaps because I was raised in a rather conservative fashion, or perhaps because my mother (who I didn't live with) slept around more than anyone I know and that life did not look appealing to me. No, definitely not. No. And I haven't seen it happen a lot in the people I know. The main example I can think of is one guy who frequently likes to attempt to juggle multiple chicks at once. Source: me? I actually find it easier to orgasm from anal than from vaginal sex. I don't really know how to describe it other than it feels different. Very satisfying. I could describe it as feeling like it "hits a different spot" than vaginal sex. Just because your friends don't like it, doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.

My husband works his ass off to put food on the table and to improve his skills for most of the year. The absolute least I can do is care for him when he's not feeling so well--bring him tea, food, tylenol... whatever he wants. I would never think to belittle him; I'm not in his head, I don't feel his symptoms. For all I know, if I get sick with something and he catches it, it affects him in a totally different way than it affects me. There was one time near the beginning of our relationship whe…

Another way of putting it could be, Yes he does love me for me. But if I turn into someone else, say, a 100-pound-heavier, lazier, naggier version of me, it wouldn't be the "me" he was originally attracted to, would it?

Fair enough. That's hard to find nowadays, at least openly admitted in public by people in the public eye. I'd say Kanye is better than Trump, although then it becomes a matter of physical preference just as much as alpha/beta trait preference. That and Kanye is kind of a dumbass. It's difficult to find a fair comparison.

Uhh... could you not find an example where the parties are a little closer in terms of age and appearance? I consider myself non-feminist (anti-modern-feminist) and if I absolutely had to choose between the two I would pick the latter just because I think Donald Trump is on par with a cave troll. But then again, the blatant ignorance of this comparison almost leads me to believe that this is just a troll post, so there's that.

I think infidelity is worse. I used to be in the "divorce is this awful, unjustifiable thing" camp. In some cases, it still can be. But increased perspective has shown me that it can be a useful tool to aid people who grew apart, or made a hasty or naive choice to get married too early and discovered that people can change rather quickly once they think they have a relationship locked down. Most of the people I knew who got a divorce for whatever reason are better for it now, either in better po…

I have definitely never gone so far as to vomit because a man told me I was attractive or behaved flirtatiously. That seems a little neurotic, I'll be honest. But whenever a guy starts talking to me in public and I'm not with my husband at the time, I usually make an effort to bring him up in conversation right away. It's not too hard, and it usually tones down the flirting behaviour right quick without having to be rude.

I don't really have much to add to what everyone else is saying, but I must say that your attitude in this thread is more likely far less attractive to anyone than your age. If you're 26 and act like you're already an old maid, then nobody's going to want to be around you. Self-pity is not an attractive quality in a person.

I think some feminists need to be directed to the definition of equality. There are few things more aggravating than some uppity feminist claiming that I simply "don't know the definition" when I say I'm not a feminist. Like, would you kindly fuck off, as I'm an educated individual capable of distinguishing the difference between an idealized image and the current reality?

Honestly, I don't think rape fantasies are typically influenced by anything like that at all. I feel like most people who have them, have them because of the helplessness factor. Any woman I've ever heard, including myself, who expresses an interest in rape fantasies talk about being dominated. Some have even said it takes away the pressure of having to reciprocate because they can just let themselves be used by their partner. For men with rape fantasies, I suppose it can go either way. I think, generally, it's just because I feel like very rarely are people objectively assholes. I think that, far more commonly, some people might do dickish things occasionally and be perceived by others as assholes, but overall there's a lot more going on than one or two incidents might suggest. I actually have a humorous and kind of embarrassing example of this. For the past while my husband and I have been renting half a house with his best friend and his girlfriend. Exactly, I totally agree. Like, I had an interesting situation happen while I was in high school. I was playing in an arcade (DDR, the username is appropriate), and one guy came up to me and made some confident-sounding compliments. I definitely never said all my friends think he's an asshole. I said I wouldn't be surprised if my ex and HIS friends thought he was an asshole (you know, by virtue of him coming after my ex). And all I'm really trying to say is that it's not as simple as a nice-guy/asshole dichotomy. Simplifying it down to this is not going to be productive for anyone. A "nice guy" might see the woman of his dreams with a man he perceives as an asshole, but the point is basically that just because he may think …

I'll start by saying "not really", but that's only because I've always taken a moderate approach to the pills. For example, I enjoy a lot of the RPW aspects that involve working actively on oneself and one's relationship to make both the best they can be. However, I like to think I'm smart enough to look critically at what I read to weed out the particularly radical/polarizing/overly generalizing material and apply only the relevant aspects to my own life. As far as I'm concerned, it's just someone who's not all red. I subscribe to several RPW tenets for my relationship. However, there are some that I don't follow. Since I'm not fully red, I'm at least a little purple. That's always been my way of seeing it.

Heh. Yeah, in general, it's those types of behaviours I take issue with. But I do try not to be too judgmental of what other people like to do with themselves. It's just like how there are some more extreme red pill views that I also prefer not to subscribe to. Still, in general, having been raised by my conservative father, most of my views do lean more red.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/08/14 07:39 PM
3

Well, there are a few things I regularly see getting referenced as "blue pill", like sleeping around a lot, or certain needlessly argumentative behaviours in relationships. Whether or not other people call them "wrongs", all I can say is that mostly, they aren't my style. There are "blue pill" lifestyles that I see as just fine for others but not necessarily preferable for me. I generally like to be a little more traditional in my own personal dealings, for example.

Honestly, not really. But mostly because my views were already moderate. I mean, I leaned red in my behaviours, but I wasn't to the point where I felt everyone else necessarily must be that way in order to achieve happiness. And I've always accepted that there are wrongs on either side. Realistically, a change in my belief would mean to polarize one way or the other, and I haven't seen any reason to need to do that. I generally find that true of all extreme beliefs. Usually there's a nice middle…

I really love how the first weapon of the feminist in this discussion is to claim ignorance in any and all of the opposition. As though someone can't possibly have researched and made their own educated opinions on the subject. Nope, they must just be a bunch of stupid teenage girls clamoring for attention from boys. And they wonder why people are turning away from their shitty ideology.

I'm sorry, but I disagree. Very, very few men would tolerate staying in a relationship with a woman who stops giving a shit, gets fat, stops giving the man sex or doing anything around the house. By no means is that unreasonable. I mean, Jesus, I left a guy once because he practically stopped showering and put on 40 pounds over the course of 2 months ("Because I have you now, I don't have to try anymore". I always thought that tenet was one of the stupider aspects of TRP. Of course women don't love unconditionally--NOBODY loves unconditionally. Some folks will get left for whatever reason and then try and rationalize it to themselves by saying "Oh, it must be a woman thing, they can't love unconditionally", rather than assume that one woman in particular was a bad fit or, heaven forbid, that they did something worthy of being dumped over. If a man was dating a beautiful woman who he thinks he'll …

So... Let me get this straight. This guy wants a young, thin, perfectly beautiful virgin girl who doesn't drink, is eager to give up her entire sense of self for his whims, and who just so happens to have parents that didn't divorce (because she really has control over that aspect of her life). It's laughably unrealistic. I think I know maybe one person whose parents aren't divorced, and she's more career/school-oriented than anyone I know, for example. The second I see lists like this that star…

This seems awfully spurious... My husband has a very difficult time falling asleep in general and I can't sleep if I'm too hot or touching anyone. We cuddle at night when we come to bed and then separate before we go to sleep. Not to mention I usually sleep on my stomach.

Ugh. I was just saying this to my husband the other day. There's no quicker way to turn me off than to watch some guy prostrating himself in front of an audience of shrieking harpies, going off on how all men are horrible and "WE AS MEN MUST DO X TO MAKE WOMEN FEEL COMFORTABLE". Ugh. Every chance I get I jump in the conversation. I have a male feminist facebook friend and I'm always quick to tell him that I really do not need defending, except perhaps from his god-awful white knighting.

Oh my gosh, what a bunch of hooey. I don't understand why these gals even bother if they're so offended by every aspect. On the contrary--PPD has affirmed my position. However, my position was always moderate. I visit RPW mostly as an anti-modern-feminist (that is, I'm for egalitarianism but not for whiny bitching about useless bullshit that doesn't actually matter) and also as someone always interested in tips to help make my husband happy. But there are plenty of aspects I super disagree with. Things like "I must at all costs stay thin and healthy for my husband but if he starts to eat unhealthily and gains a bu…

Of course it's sexist. It's postulating that men and women ought to hold different amounts of power in the relationship for the smoothest sailing. It is, by definition, sexist. Here's the thing, though. People who follow the RP view to a T argue that men and women are fundamentally different. By this logic, because men are -typically- more dominant and women are -typically- more submissive (or at very least would generally be more willing to work only part time and stay at home the rest of the t…

I'm not super into it. I generally try to be reasonably modest. I'm not some 1800s woman that demands as much skin be covered as possible, but I certainly don't think it's ideal to walk around naked all the time, either. Some things, I think, should be kept relatively intimate. If I were just letting it all hang out all the time, how would that impact my relationship? I like to think that that ought to be kept reasonably exclusive. I don't feel like I'm missing out by not having every guy I pass…

What I don't get is why some of these gals need their men to tell them they've gained weight. Don't they know? Aren't they paying attention? Don't they care that their man fell in love with someone 30-50 pounds lighter than them? I weigh myself at least twice daily and moderate my eating behaviour accordingly. I don't need my husband to tell me about my weight because I'm on top of it. There have been times when he offers me a snack or some wine when I'm slightly higher weight (I have a range of…

Agreed, certainly. I mostly stick to RPW, because I find a lot of the stuff in TRP to be overly bitter (though good for an entertaining read if I find myself bored). I enjoy the aspects of red pill that involve being the best you can be to your husband and overcoming some of the more irrational aspects of femininity. I was raised primarily by my father so I already consider myself pretty chill most of the time, but arguments do happen from time to time and it's important to focus on communication and respect and not underhanded tricks to feel superior or like I've "won". My husband and I are a team. We win together, not against each other. But I don't think …

Well, as I mentioned, I don't agree with everything. But when others are talking about aspects I don't agree with, I generally don't bother to post about it. I save debate for the debate areas. Otherwise, I just chime in when I read something I like. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of the fact that they banned you. I don't think any subreddits should ban someone for reasonable discourse.

I can't speak for any RP men, but I've always had a strong desire to be a good wife and to do everything I can to make my husband happy, including improving household skills. When I found the RP women subreddit, it just felt like I'd found a group of women who wanted to do largely that same thing. So realistically, a lot (not all, mind you) of what I found on that subreddit pretty much already -was- "me".

Well yeah, but the main question was referring to calling people virgins, hence my focus. Ideally, we should all just avoid name-calling altogether because it's just not a good way to relate to people. Of course, these insults are particularly annoying because calling people them doesn't change anything. I mean, if you did call a woman a slut it's not like it takes any of the previous dicks out of her sexual history. It's pretty silly.

Frankly, I don't get what's so wrong with being a virgin. I would rather be a virgin than someone who sleeps with a new guy/girl every weekend, personally. It's a stupid insult. "Whoooa, that guy thinks sex is significant enough to wait for the right person! OHHH SNAP!!" "Whoaaaa, that guy has had bad luck with women, what a LOOOSERRR." It's just stupid. I'm happy to answer your questions! I check red pill men every now and then to see the sorts of things they're saying (sometimes it has a kernel of truth to it, other times I find it patently absurd). I saw this the other day and it was definitely one for the latter category. The reasons they list for not respecting women apply to (as I understand it) a pretty small minority of women. I don't really read the red pill men side much, but from what I know of the red pill women side, they absolutely do not advocate plenty of casual sex. If men are going to want to settle down with someone, generally speaking they're going to want someone who hasn't shared herself with a bunch of other guys. Whether or not anyone thinks this is fair is, well, kinda irrelevant. The fact of the matter is, almost all of the men I've spoken to care at least a little bit about it. No amount of telling …

I do lean towards thinking that more traditional roles are helpful, and, under ideal conditions, are even preferable. But I'm certainly not going to judge anyone who wants to deviate from that lifestyle. I mean, if two parents both need to work to support their household, then that's just fine by me. I really don't see the harm in suggesting that women be kind and show self-control, though. Ideally all people should ascribe to these values.

Agnostic/gnostic is simply a qualifier. Theism or atheism is the actual belief. I know very few gnostic (claim to know for sure) atheists. Most people, including myself, are agnostic atheists. Tomorrow? We'd be in some shit. Over time? I think women would gradually get over their obsession with taking stupid courses like women's studies and would pick up the slack to ensure survival of the human race. Eh, this seems a little disingenuous to me. Nobody wants to date a haggard bitch/asshole. Even if a man values intelligence in a woman, if given the choice between your two women, he's going to go with the latter. I'm definitely more utilitarian when it comes to shoes. From what I gather, a lot of them find it demeaning because it attracts a lot of male attention. Anybody who would compliment her for looking great while under the impression she did it for herself and yet would insult her upon hearing she did it to look good for someone else is a raging hypocrite in my opinion. Good for her for working hard to please who she feels is most imp…

It was more supposed to be "you can't generalize dating advice". I could give you "advice" to get confidence, status, and physical fitness (or even more basic, obvious shit such as maintaining a basic level of hygiene), and you could still fail at getting a date and then assume that it's shit advice. For example, someone with confidence could go up to someone that is shy/doesn't like to be approached and be turned down flat. And I've also seen plenty of "physically fit" guys that are also butt-u…

I've been trying to figure out how to word this eloquently, but the best way I can say it is this: Here are three women. Jessica: Likes bad boys who don't care about being polite, works in a motorbike shop, is sporty, swears like a sailor, is tough to approach. Marie: Works in a flower shop, paints in her spare time, acts in some community plays, is outgoing and friendly and open to conversation. Anne: Is slightly religious, volunteers with animals, likes reading, doesn't like to be approached b…

So, to make sure we're being clear here, let me reiterate: "Eeeeehhhh I have so many prooooblems eeeeehhh if only I had a man around to help me with them meeeeehhh. :( ... BUT I AM A STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMYN AND I LIKE BEING ALONE. Ehhh So lonely... What's that, friends in happy relationships? Am I jealous of you? Nah. ...Eeehhh... :(" That's about what I heard.

I choose to look at it this way... All over the place you see people complaining about their relationships for various reasons. Just everywhere, all the time. We are people that want to try and avoid these pitfalls and make our significant others happy. If that makes someone else bitter or resentful, that is entirely their problem, for I have a happy and loving relationship that I STRONGLY suspect they are lacking. And even if being red pill were a "fad", I fail to see how the "fad" of wanting t…

I'm definitely not religious, nor is my fiance. I wouldn't even call myself conservative by most standards. But I am definitely anti-feminist and would argue that the race for total equality is a futile (and potentially harmful) one. I joined here because at my core, I feel happiest when my soon-to-be husband is happiest. I want to be the best wife to him in any way I can, and I appreciate a great many of the insights here. For example, I've always believed that sex should not be handed out like…

Some people just seem to have gotten this warped idea that the way they are is automatically something worthy of preserving and that somehow any improvement is a deviation from themselves and is therefore bad. To heck with trying to better myself. I was born unique and perfect and anyone who doesn't love me, faults and all, is UNWORTHY of my greatness, right?

I'm more irritated that she advocates sleeping around with more than one guy and waiting to see how long it takes for them to realize they're being screwed in more ways than one. Disgusting behaviour. I can understand people not wanting to marry too soon, but trying to claim marriage is inferior to such lofty goals as eating a tub of nutella in one sitting is pretty sad, I gotta say.

I was wondering that myself. People like to comment all the time about how people who plan a wedding are focused on planning a party instead of a life together. Now, don't get me wrong, some of them may very well be. But most of them don't plan the ceremony just for the party alone. Most of them don't expect their relationships to end. Some of them are more prepared than others, and others are perhaps more optimistic than they ought to be, but what does it matter? If they want to spend the money…

I think that it's very possible for people to change. A person can certainly decide that she doesn't want to be the town bicycle and settle down with one individual and lead at least a reasonably happy life (we can discuss the likelihood of this actually happening until we're blue in the face but I think we can all at least agree that it's possible). However, like the OP said, it is not possible for a person's history to change. And a woman who decides to sleep with 50 guys by the time she's 25 …

Been lurking here for a while. I'm engaged to be married, currently. I've been married once before and left for a lot of complicated reasons I won't get into just now (I've talked a bit about it in my post history). I'm not sure if having been divorced once excludes me from being a RPW, but nevertheless I've only physically been with two people, my ex-husband and my fiance. I think, probably because of my upbringing, I've always empathized more with men and men's issues than women. My mother and father split up when I was three or so, and my Dad took custody of me because my mom was too busy sleeping around and doing drugs to be bothered with either of us. My dad didn't demand child support or anything, he just did his best to raise me alone. At least, until he married a woman who turned out to be the picture of the stereotypical abusive stepmother after they were …

Have you ever seen one of those dichotomies that puts some dirty punk teenager next to, say, Marilyn Monroe and asks "Women: what happened?" That's kind of what these images are doing: making a false dichotomy comparison. You can compare girls doing menial bullshit to men fighting in the army, or you can also make the same comparisons between teenage boys doing the same sorts of stuff and women doing, say, I dunno, brain surgery or something and you'll have the same bad comparison. Quoted from my "Psychology of Criminal Behaviour" text, in the chapter on female crime: "Hunnicutt and Broidy (2004) assert that changing gender roles initially brought on by the women's liberation movement have unintentionally increased the "economic marginal roles" of women by pushing them farther into the economic margins of society. Specifically, the women's movement has perpetuated the belief that women are better off financially, a situation that has caused society to overlook evidence to …

I really do think you're being oversensitive and reading too much into it on that end. If I'd told you he sucked in bed, you'd have every right. But the reason the second sentence existed was not to bring attention to its weirdness but to the fact that he ignored my requests to not do them. That's what mattered. Of all the people who have come to talk here on this matter, you're not the first to come here to accuse me of doing it for attention, but to imply that I would degrade men for being men…

But the sad thing is, that's basically what a bunch of them seem to think: that, as men, you're just a bunch of Neanderthals that want sex regardless of cost. That makes me really sad to hear. Does she identify as a feminist? If so, you should ask her, if she's really for "equality", why she scoffs at the idea of men having a place to discuss inequalities and injustices against them. If the words "patriarchy" or "privilege" enter anywhere into her rebuttal, it might not be worth your time, I'm afraid. Any woman who doesn't also want equal rights for someone she's supposed to care about is definitely not someone to stay with. As for the rape comment, t…

Fuck me BUT MAKE SURE YOU GET CONSENT LOL All kidding aside, though, it really is super insulting to men. As if the average man doesn't understand what consent means or what rape entails. No, no, we'll fix all our problems as long as those stupid men learn that rape is bad. It's a totally bullshit implication. Men are not criminals. Criminals are criminals. Well, in the end that's what we did. We divided our stuff without any legal stuff involved except for to stamp the divorce papers. But still, I can definitely get behind the point you're getting at. In the end, I tried to compromise but people really should feel like they should be able to take what they've earned and are entitled to. Problem is I guess that runs the risk of some women feeling entitled to more than they actually are, so there you have it.

Well, whether or not he was a big spender in the relationship he did earn more than me and therefore contribute a lot. I do think it wound up being fair that he got what he did. Having thought about it I really don't feel like I came off too badly.

I really don't even like the term privilege either way. It implies that all men or all women have certain powers in certain domains. Certainly a lot of men hold high positions but there are also a lot of men on the streets. Certainly a lot of women have the power to screw men over but some don't. Maybe I'm just bitter because the typical feminist response to men is "check your privilege" rather than hold an actual conversation with you. Pisses me off.

Well, I did save it, yes, but like I said he did contribute a LOT over the course of our relationship and was earning a fair bit more than me. Since we were together for a few years I felt it was only fair, all things considered.

No kids. I definitely didn't ask for any alimony either. I was more than capable of earning my own money before we were together and nothing changed when we divorced. I do want a family, but I wasn't ready when I was with him. Still in university, still trying to better myself.

Thank you for taking the time to write this response. I'm glad to have the chance to clear up a few things. First, let me assure you I didn't really write this with the intention of necessarily getting pat on the back, per se. I wanted to start up a discussion on how this ought to be an outcome that happens more often. I agree. In most of the cases I've seen where two people are in a relationship and either of them could be called "the bad one", it's almost always been the woman. I don't enjoy that it's those people that get to have the power. If the only thing I can do to help is to not take advantage of a system like that, then that's what I'll do, but I really would enjoy being able to do more. I hate the sexism, too. The trouble is finding a way to overcome it, especially in a society that seems to be rapidly embracing feminism. I don't blame people for being fearful of a system like that. Not whatsoever.

Bahahaha, never really thought about it that way. I guess I felt like he was already losing out on a fair bit (he didn't want to end the relationship but also put zero effort into trying to fix it until it was well past too late) so it wound up working out relatively "even" in a sense.

Will do. I was the first of my friends to be married. The guy I'm with now, he's been divorced once as well. His ex-wife definitely didn't let him off the hook easy, unfortunately. Fortunately, all of my friends treat men well. Those who didn't have been cut out of my life, for sure. I graduated with someone who tricked a man into fatherhood. Needless to say, not friends with that person any longer.

I have perused media from both Men's rights and Feminism. I've noticed a trend amongst both. Men's rights, though it has its bitter individuals who have already suffered (I can tell, as this type of bitterness only tends to be borne out of experience) injustices or rejections from women, is largely already an egalitarian group--it welcomes newcomers of all genders and offers mostly respectful debates about gender issues and areas where men still face inequalities in the system. Naturally, the fo…

This is one aspect that just really pisses me off about feminism. They try to claim they're all for equality/that they want more female privilege/whatever bullshit hypocritical flavour of the month, but then the SECOND you get women deciding that WHAT THEY WANT to do with their life/time is to take sexy naked pictures or make porn or whatever, you get a shitload of feminists jumping down MEN's throat because for some reason it is solely their fault that these poor helpless women felt compelled t…

I didn't even know such things existed. That seems weird to me. I came here in protest of feminism (you guys are far more egalitarian than they are (with a few obvious exceptions)) so why in the world would I need a segregated subreddit for something like that? Almost seems to defeat the purpose.

Oh it's common all right. Heck, even in a comment thread in here I just had yesterday, I had someone telling me that men's victimization was a small problem and when I said that suffering should be paid attention to regardless of gender they called it a hateful statement. You absolutely can't win with these people unless you're talking about women's "suffering". Do you know what a circular argument is? Do you think that helping men's suffering is mutually exclusive from helping women's suffering? Do you think it is hateful to want to prevent suffering regardless of what gender is suffering? Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

If the only thing I've done is to comment on reddit, then at least I can say that my comment on reddit was against someone downplaying the problem of men being victimized. And I fail to see how my refusing to see men being victimized as a "small problem" is holding back women from doing anything.

Not for nothing, but it isn't a small problem to the people who go through it. I've never been a rape victim myself, but I would never downplay male victimization compared to female victimization just because "it happens less". That's not an excuse to ignore what they go through altogether. Why does it have to be one or the other with you guys? Why can't we just accept the fact that both genders can be victimized?

Such is the way of a lot of feminists: block out any views that may dissent with their own, prevent any reasonable discourse to sort out said views, and disassociate with anyone who might dare attempt such discourse. People like this don't give a shit that men might be suffering. All they care about is themselves and the fact that the suffering of any woman is obviously ten times that of any of you privileged men. Why else would they downplay male circumcision when compared to female circumcisio…

I think that most of them are just incredibly, incredibly bitter, either through their personal experiences with men or through the parroting of the feminist doctrine that "all men are privileged patriarchy monsters that want nothing more than to rape you!!1 RARRRGH!!!" Yup. My roommate has joint custody with his ex-fiancée. They alternate weeks and bring their son to day-care each afternoon. It is absolute hell on their finances, though, no question of that. Edit: I forgot to mention something else I noticed in this thread just now. Despite having joint custody, my roommate does pay child support. Thank you for that. Frankly, I'm even more pleased to learn that because it further emphasizes the point that feminism is a nuisance of a cause more than anything. I've never taken a feminist course in school on principle, but that didn't mean I didn't encounter it in some of the texts. It figures that we're only presented the positive side of things and not any of the stuff like what you told me. I like this a lot. I'll definitely have to use that. Really, I've just been hearing it a lot lately... "That's not what feminism means" or similar sentiments. Frankly, if a group is not dictated by its actions, then what is it dictated by? It's become quite clear that feminism is no longer about what it once was. I think so too. In one of my courses in university, the topic of different family strategies came up, with complementary being that the women would stay home and care for the children and the man would work as opposed to both parents working. Getting into the details about it and discussing how the former (in the case that the working partner makes enough money) tends to work more effectively just made me think that maybe the "equality" that some of these feminists are striving for might not be …

I've never really been asked this question before. I could give a lot of reasons, but I think the most relevant one is that I don't appreciate a doctrine telling me that I'm somehow less equal than men and that I should be fighting to rectify it. Pushing aside the debate whether men and women can be or even should be completely 100% equal to begin with, I've never felt lesser than men in my life.
