I see your point. Nothing wrong with remembering who she was. What she meant to me. But the symbolism is what I make it. It’s now a symbol of how I’m turning my life around. It’s motivation to take care of myself. To take the time to focus on my needs, and a reminder that if I want unconditional love, then I have to love myself unconditionally. A big part of this healing process for me was the ability to let it go. It’s different for everyone, but in a weird way, this helps me.

Still wearing it on my right hand. Little reminder to not do that again.

Keen here knows what he’s talking about. Most of us tried and failed valiantly in the “trying to save it” we are men, and our natural instinct is to fix. The reality is she didn’t just arrive here. She has been thinking about it for months and months. Best advice is leave her alone. It’s going to be agony for a while. But time heals all things. Focus on yourself… make yourself better.

I read up to, “I gave her everything she asked for and then some.” She’s an adult and can live with her decision on that front after it.

My divorce wasn’t bad. She asked for it. She outlined what she wanted. I agreed and filed the paperwork. Start to finish the whole thing took 4.5 months. $4000 in attorneys fees, and I lost a house and a truck. Nope. Traditional family household structure is all but dead here. I will make my house, if a woman would like to join me in this adventure she is welcome to tag along… but I will never co mingle my life around someone else ever again.

This, all of this. Started with walking, then got an app, Started with 10 minute lifts 3 times a week when I could drag myself in there. Currently on week 7 in the gym 42 work outs completed and I’m now doing 40-50 minutes of lifting 5 days a week. Only problem is I get the itch now if I don’t go.

It takes time my dude. Learn to recognize the little successes with each interaction. Even if it goes horribly wrong… you still did it… you stuck your neck out there, and that should be celebrated!

I got one for you, My sister in law and my ex wife are “best friends”. So I lost my closest family in the divorce. At least until they figured out she was using my niece and nephews sports schedules to go visit a guy, under the guise of “supporting the family”. It’s really common place that when we get married we center our attention around our spouse. Build our foundations around them… and then when they rip it out from under us we are shocked that we have so few “real friends” Reconnect with p…

my dude… change your perspective. Your home is their home too. Referring to it any other way diminishes your role as a dad. You are doing better than a large portion of us. You recognize when you messed up, your last words were “I WILL BE BETTER” … I believe you will be, do you? Internet strangers know you’re doing your best. Don’t you think it’s time you give yourself a little pat on the back too?

Conspiracy theory: Husband never laid a hand on her. She wanted to blame him for the divorce and jumped out the window to have “evidence” that he hurts her. Then proceeds to talk to her boss that then spreads it on social media for her. Fuck… divorce may have ruined me.

I played smart all the way through and simped for her whenever possible. Offering support, a helping hand etc etc etc. she got the house and a vehicle. I kept the rentals and the business… Second the decree was in place I stopped helping. I stopped listening to her complain about her life, I stopped doing things she asked me to do. It’s no longer my obligation to take care of her. She asked for this… and she got what she wanted. Took about a week. She came back and asked if we could go back and …

Hey dude, Feeling hopeless? You’re not alone… we have all been there and we go there far more often than we let on. There are good days, and bad days… and even if you’re having a good one it doesn’t mean you don’t have a bad one in front of you. I know you have done everything you could. So did I… Sit in it for a minute. Recognize that this sucks. Take a deep breath… you got this. Deep down through the tears, and the hurt, the betrayal and the lies… you got this. You’re going to be fine, and you…

If you can’t sue for a hefty amount of money, no attorney will help you for “free”.

Yeah, I have thought extensively about this. No. I will never commingle my life with anyone else again. No arguments on financials, I’ll buy what I want when I want. And if she wants to leave she can leave. It’s my house and my yard, if you think the grass is greener over there… by all means leave my yard.

Therapist, nutritionist, psychiatrist, A close friend you trust, a family member that always gives solid advice, a group of random strangers going through a similar situation to you. All of those are a good “doctor” to have

Same way you heal a broken arm my dude. You see a doctor, you set the break, and you give it a lot of time. It’s going to be uncomfortable for a while. Sometimes it’s going to itch and you have to resist the urge to scratch. But that cast will come off and it won’t feel like it was ever broken to begin with! Chin up man. You got this.

Yes… started with motivational speeches. Then music, now I’m listening to history podcasts, or just taking in the sights and sounds.

My dude, Be easy on yourself man. That voice that keeps telling you you’re worthless is wrong. Sounds like you are on the right path here. Just keep moving forward, one heavy step at a time!

I had the exact same mindset. She wants this, I don’t… I’m not filing the paperwork because it makes me the “bad guy” and I didn’t want this. Turns out the initial complaint specifically says the plaintiff (filing party) has been aggrieved by the defendant and plaintiff is requesting a dissolution of the marriage due to that. You’re not the bad guy, the paperwork doesn’t say you’re the bad guy if you file it. Further, if someone you hold dear thinks you’re the bad guy for giving her what she ask…

This goes in the vein of working out, so I apologize… walking at night. Things change after the sun goes down. Helped me to shift my perspective of the world a little bit. Less people to deal with. Different people are out than who you would see during the day. There is an element of danger there, not a big one of course, but it still forces you into a different view point. Early morning is an entirely different thing too if you aren’t a night person like me.

That depressed, “I don’t want to do anything” mode… yeah, I think we all go through that man, and it comes in waves. I figured out that if my heart hurts it helps to transfer that pain to another muscle. Easiest way to do that is to go pick up heavy shit for a while.

Well, that’s kind of the majority of it… but it does help he was a friend before this happened, and he will be one after it’s done!

Biggest mistake I made was buying a primary residence. Should have kept buying duplexes and moving into them. Good news… I can get back to that now!

Yes! The freedom to just do what you need is amazing! Hold on to that, use it to shift your perspective man!

Yep. Consistently blaming yourself… I did it too man. Did it many times… may do it in the future too. It’s not all on you buddy. We can only adjust what we know about. And many of us will never have the opportunity to do any more than that. You got this my dude!

Yeah… she sees the houses as another job, maintenance, etc. I’m sure her attorney tried to convince her otherwise. But she is short sighted… it’s a thing!

I don’t think “married discounts” are significant enough to worry about. I assume you’re talking about like car insurance? If so, insurance companies don’t really do that anymore… and if they do it’s a minor amount. For me, it was like $12 a year. And getting rid of paying for her vehicle cut my premium down by like $1200 a year.
