don’t agree to it then. say that you take the same precautions with other men you date, and you make sure they’re also covid safe before going on a date with them, so it shouldn’t be a problem if everyone involved is doing the same safety measures. why should he be the exception?

it’s a good sign he called you! since you two don’t really know each other that well, i think it’s fine that you aren’t really texting that much. texting establishes false intimacy... in the beginning it’s much better getting to know someone in person.

agreed. while i love to hate on trashy men it doesn’t really fit the theme of this sub

i’ve read the handbook many times over, not sure how it helps in this case? i was looking for specific advice about my situation, not general red flags and stuff. i’m prepared to drop him if he is still on Tinder but i was just unsure how to approach the conversation in an appropriate way (without allowing him to brush it off).

sadly only 2 of my professors in 3 years of college have been women, more often than not it is a male prof 😭

i love that!! as an engineering student, if my professor ever uses “she” as the default instead of “he” i instantly gain respect for them.

I think it depends on the age. a lot of people my age (late teens/early 20s) still use snapchat as actual social media so it’s pretty common for people in that age range to have it. but i can see it being a red flag for older people.

at least for the oral contraceptive, the reason why it was pushed for women to take it (when research was split on whether scientists should develop a drug for women or men) was so they could have control over their bodies without having to rely on the man for birth control. It is a burden (negative side effects) but I can see why it is good for the option to be there, independent of what the man wants to do.

i wonder what he thinks it says! no one in their right mind would get “black belt” tattooed on themselves...

Definitely, I’ve been seeing this guy for about a month now and the past few times we’ve seen each other it’s just been some making out, cuddling, above waist action. He always asks me if I’m comfortable with doing something and even if I have the slightest bit of hesitation, he’ll back off and doesn’t make a big deal about me setting boundaries, just accepts it and moves on like it’s perfectly normal because IT IS perfectly normal. He’s more sexually experienced than me but still understands wh…

I don’t think it’s necessarily that we seek out NVM/LVM, but that culture/society pressures us into entering relationships and the pool of men with whom we can get into relationships with is overwhelmingly LV, and we’re just taught to accept that bc it’s “better than being single”.

Yeah that’s what my instinct was, but my friends told me “he’s just a bad texter” so I came here for clarity.

I’m definitely not waiting around for his texts. I’m genuinely busy and usually take a few hours to respond, while he only takes a few minutes. I don’t send walls of text either and rarely double text unless i have something important to say.

I’m not giving him the benefit of the doubt, but my friends (men and women) have told me “he’s just a bad texter” when I mentioned it to them so I came here for confirmation/clarity.

thanks for the response! how long did it take to establish exclusivity/commitment? i’m assuming he was the one to bring it up first?

can I ask how the relationship progressed? I’m new to OLD and not sure how to approach a more serious relationship on there!

I’ve read all of it. I guess it’s also important to note I’m young and in school so I’m not necessarily marriage minded, just looking for a healthy serious relationship. It’s not like I’m desperate for commitment since I still think it’s too early for that and I need to get to know him better. I just want to make sure he’s also serious and not looking for a casual thing. From his actions I don’t think he IS looking for a casual thing, but you never know with men and I would feel better to establ…

even if their “ideal woman” asked them out, they would immediately view them as no longer ideal or unattainable because she lowered herself to ask them out.

If you have an iPhone you can share your location with other iPhone users with the Find My Friends function. And I second Life360, it’s quite thorough.

ok yeah in hindsight I see that it wasn’t the smartest thing to do but we do have some mutual friends who’ve pre-vetted him so I wasn’t that worried about him being a huge threat to my safety. i know I should let him take the lead, just not sure how to vocalize I don’t want to go over without suggesting another plan.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
