Great post! You mentioned how some people fall into that crowd because they had a rough start in life and want “better” for them and their children. My first thought when I read that was that both the alt-right crowd and the extremely religious crowd are both cults, or at least have cult-like tendencies...and cults are known to prey on vulnerable people, so as sad as it is, it makes sense that this would be the case.

I am someone who really struggles with cleaning and organization, and I will say you’re 100% correct. That’s actually one of the main reasons I’m taking a break from dating right now. To me it’s a no-brainer that I need to work on keeping my space clean before I worry about getting into a relationship.

Jesus Christ. It’s ALWAYS the ex. I don’t get it. I’m glad you made that early judgement call!

YES. In addition to any other women he’s getting to know, I’ve had several situations where I went on several great dates with a guy, only for them to discover that they’re still not over their ex 🙄like really? You couldn’t have taken the time to figure that out BEFORE you started going on dates again? (And that’s giving them the generous assumption that they didn’t already know it).

True. I’ve learned it the hard way. It truly is ridiculous, the facade they’ll put on. You really can’t trust ANY man in those first couple months.

I agree with all of that. I can’t speak for all women, but from what I know, I think many of them do it because they’ve been taught that having sex is how women find value. It’s kind of a weird backwards version of the conservative Christian rhetoric society is moving away from. Society is still teaching that women are only valued from the male gaze. Personally, the reason I participated in it is because I had been single for a long time, and I was convinced that hookups/situationships were the …

I went back and forth on this for a while, but now I agree. I think that women should have the right to hook up with people if they want to. I’m glad we’re breaking away from the old Christian stigma of women being like chewing gum (worthless after losing their virginity). But encouraging women to hook up is just extremely dangerous and benefits the patriarchy. I used to participate in that and looking back I know that it’s because I was suffering from a lot of emotional issues I didn’t want to …

That’s really a shame! I can somewhat relate to your former friend (minus the homophobia). I am 22 and have never been in a real relationship, so at this point even my parents have started to ask questions about my best friend (like, the same questions parents ask about your new partner). Especially when we hung out together on Valentine’s Day. Sometimes it makes me a little uncomfortable when I know people are assuming things, but alas, that’s part of life. I would never let that deter me from …

I’ve heard that too! It’s funny how it can go both ways, like partners labeled as gal pals, and gal pals labeled as partners.

I was about to mention Twilight. I was never into it during its peak, but my mom (who was almost 40 at the time) was obsessed with it. Looking back, I find it really disturbing that grown adults liked it. Teenagers I can understand, but how can a grown adult read/watch that and not be disturbed? It’s pretty well known in the literary world that vampires are often a symbol for sexual predators. Combine that with the fact that Bella was only 17 and Edward was ancient...yeah. Even if you ignore the…

Also, women are shamed for having any non-romantic relationships with men as well (i.e. the “friend zone” and “nice guys finish last” tropes). But I definitely agree that female friendships are horribly undervalued. I have a female best friend that I spend a LOT of time with, and we get mistaken for lesbians so often that it’s become a running joke. Nothing wrong with lesbians, obviously, it’s just funny to me how the idea of two women being platonically close is so foreign that people assume it…

Ugh, I got angry just reading that. Whenever I interact with men like that, I remind myself that I dodged a bullet. A lot of pickmes will embrace that mentality like “yeah, at least I’m not lazy like those bigger girls” but they don’t realize that nobody is immune to weight gain :) so stay humble. Lol

You made some really good points! I can relate as a chubby girl trying to navigate the dating world. For a while I struggled with the mindset of “I really should lose weight before I try to date”, or “maybe he’s not interested in me because of my size”, etc. For me, the thing that changed my mindset was realizing that a person’s weight is subject to change at any time. People gain weight for a wide variety of reasons, especially as they age. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for LVM to marry a wo…

YES. I honestly think my love language is remembering little things about people and demonstrating it. Like remembering their food/coffee order. Or following up after events (i.e. “how did your interview go?”). Or asking about the important people in your life whenever you haven’t mentioned them in a while. It shows they are truly listening when you talk, and that they’re truly invested in your life.

Thank you!! I think this is something I’ll definitely be reflecting on. I don’t really have a lot of life goals, so figuring that out should probably be the next step for me.

Unfortunately, not much can be done because he technically hasn’t done anything illegal. The school sent home an email to all parents in the county with a description in his car, and reminded them to keep an eye on their kids. Even though he can’t be arrested, I just know that if women ran the world, we would have figured out who he is (he has a rather unique car so somebody has to know him), and then plastered his name and picture all over social media so his reputation could be ruined. But no,…

I am sorry this happened to you. I also had a recent experience of men ruining simple things- there has allegedly been a man in my area frequenting school bus stops and trying to talk to kids. The 9 year old I babysit heard about it at school and came home terrified. She is normally a super confident kid, but now she won’t leave my side whenever we’re outside. It’s one thing when men are creepy to me because I’m used to that, but seeing how it affected her broke my heart.

I’m going to be transparent here, since this is an anonymous forum. I once peed while sleepwalking (although I wasn’t drunk, it was just regular sleepwalking). I didn’t realize what had happened until the next morning. Thankfully, I was home alone that night so no one else ever knew, but I was so mortified that to this day I won’t drink anything past 8 pm. The fact that this guy shamelessly does it is shocking to me (and that’s saying something, because it takes a lot to suprise me nowadays).

This is so good. I’m 22 is what I’m working on at the moment, but I do have something I want to ask anyone here who is older than me. I’ve gotten to the point where I am fine with being single for the rest of my life in an emotional sense. I truly enjoy my own company, and I’m perfectly happy on my own. The issue I’m trying to get past now is that the life I want to have logistically requires a partner. I want to be a stay at home mom/homemaker. I want to have a little house in the country with …

Do men really think that women use words like “b*tches” and “chicks” to refer to other women?

You know, it’s really ironic that men get so headed about the “men get abused/assaulted too” because I saw a stat once about SA that the vast majority of men who are assaulted were assaulted by another man. So, even if you ignore the the fact that women are abused way more often than men...domestic abuse and SA are primarily a mens’ issue. Holding men accountable for their actions will benefit everyone.

When they say their love language is physical touch, but down the road you find out they actually don’t like any form of physical touch besides sex. So to them, physical touch as a love language = a high sex drive. I see this as a major red flag because it shows, at best, they don’t understand love languages. At worst, it shows they don’t understand love/affection in general. Sex is not a love language in and of itself (I’d say it falls more into the acts of service category anyway, but that’s n…

I’m having trouble getting over a crush. We have been acquaintances for years- he’s handsome, funny, interesting, a feminist, and a super nice person. We flirted for a while, but he never asked me out. Eventually, it got to the point where it was obvious he wasn’t interested in me, so I moved on and we are no longer in contact. I’m not normally the kind of person who gets hung up over a man. But for some reason I can’t stop thinking about him. I’ve gone on dates with other guys since then (none …

Today I was starting to fall back into my old thought patters of “why does nothing ever pan out for me in the dating world”. The “99.9% of men are not right for you, meeting the right person is pure luck” thing is exactly what I needed to hear right now, thank you.

When I messaged the mod they said “what is celebrated and upvoted in that sub is incompatible with feminism as we understand it.” They did not get into any details. I just shrugged it off at that point

Thanks! I was also just thinking about how it doesn’t really fit into the political spectrum, it’s just hard to explain. There’s a specific brand of “feminism” that I’ve noticed that implies women have to be as “man-like” as possible in order to be respected. I personally refer to it as “buzzfeed milennial girlboss feminism”, but I’m not sure if that makes sense to anyone else. It basically glorifies women who are emotionally repressed and bend over backwards to be taken seriously by men. I was …

I absolutely hate how punching walls and breaking shit is so normalized for men. If a woman did that, she would get her face plastered all over the Internet for having a “Karen meltdown”, but when a man does it, he’s just “rough around the edges”. Like, I truly don’t think there’s any situation where that could be justified. It’s just unacceptable, for any gender. It’s a hill I’m willing to die on and I would not hesitate to end a relationship if my partner did that.

Ok so, I’m a part of this sub and I’ve also lurked other subs, and I’m getting a little confused. I’ve seen references to “libfems” on this sub...but my question is, is this sub more like “far left criticizing center left”, or is this sub more “centrists criticizing the left?” Sorry if this is a dumb question, I’m just trying to figure out all of the nuances of feminism and how it translates into different contexts.

So does this sub support intersectional feminism? I’ve lurked on other feminist subs who say this sub is the “wrong” kind of feminism and now I’m confused.

I was also banned from the ask feminist sub for being a member here, I messaged the mod and they said “we consider FDS a hate sub” and I’m genuinely confused. I can understand why male-dominated subs don’t like this sub, but why do other women not like it?

I can attest to this. Back when I was in my Tinder hookup phase, I hooked up with one guy twice and then he ghosted me. I didn’t think anything of it until about a year later, he messaged me on Hinge. I think he forgot we had already met. It was very cringey on his part.

I’ve been using OLD apps for the past 3 years and haven’t had any success. I actually had such a bad experience that I’ve sworn off dating altogether, lol. If I happen to meet the right person then great, but only if it happens naturally IRL. I’m not spending any more time in the dating scene. I’ve found that most guys on OLD apps are just looking for sex, and the ones that actually want a relationship tend to be really clingy and weird. I have heard a few success stories about OLD, but only wit…

Here’s the thing- it’s your life. We’re here to support each other and give feedback, but ultimately it’s your call whether you think the relationship is worth staying in. Obviously, there will always be issues you have to work through. But it seems like the issue here is the overall dynamic of your relationship, which could mean it’s just not a good fit. There’s a lot more to compatibility than just chemistry.

This gave me the same vibe as when I was in college and some random guy from high school tried to slide in my DMs asking me to hook up...I asked him if he was dating anyone because I knew he had been dating this one girl for a long time, and he said “I’m currently on a break with my girlfriend of 3 years” yeah sure buddy...could also be because it was over Christmas break and she went home to visit her family. He was a piece of shit

This. Also, wanted to add. HIS ATTITUDE ABOUT HIS BEHAVIOR IS EVERYTHING. If he cooks or does housework one time and then brags about it for a week...LVM. Also, another LVM behavior that doesn’t often get talked about is helping with housework, but leaving tasks halfway done. I’m not talking about “I’ll load the dishwasher if you unload it later” or other agreements like that, I’m taking about things like taking out the trash but never putting a new bag in the trash can. Volunteering to do a loa…

I think it’s rare, but possible. For example: I have a friend who is a VERY clingy girlfriend. Wants to be with him or be constantly texting him 24/7, calls him at work multiple times a day, always has to know where he is (to a slightly creepy extent IMO)...so, obviously, her version of a HVM is someone who is also very clingy, because she wants someone who will tolerate and reciprocate her behavior, because that’s the kind of relationship she wants. I, however, am the opposite. I’ve always been…

Ugh. I’ve known so many people in real life like this. A lot of people (men especially) want the benefits of a relationship (sex, companionship, attention/emotional support) but without the effort or commitment. The truth is that life just doesn’t work that way. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. If you just want sex, you can get a FWB but that relationship has to be purely physical or else it becomes a train wreck (speaking from experience here). But if you want to form an emotional conne…

This is true but sometimes men are just as clingy as they claim women are. I’ve had men that I was simply TALKING to, not even dating yet, be like “did you forget about me?” If I went more than an hour without talking to them. So I guess I’m sensitive to both sides of this issue, lol. I don’t expect anyone to call or text me while they’re busy, especially if they’re at work, just as long as I’m aware of the situation. My only issue is if they just disappear and don’t talk to me all day. Even if …
