I agree... And so I still feel like my initial point is being lost. Feminism (feminists more specifically) tend to make a claim about the equality they seek that is more accurately defined as egalitarianism. They then demonstrate in practice that they are not, in truth, seeking the results of that claim, but are instead very actively a special interest group willing to attain advantages for women at the cost of not only overlooking problems affecting men, but are willing to cause harm to men in …

I feel like my comment is being misconstrued. I'm saying that feminists claim to support equality for all (without defining what that is, usually, but that might be sort of a straw man). They don't. The thing described in #14 more accurately describes egalitarianism (I think, correct me if I'm wrong).
/r/MensRights29/03/15 09:35 PM

'#14 actually describes egalitarinism, not feminism. I can agree with an egalitarian point of view, because it's willing to acknowledge womens' issues, but without having to sacrifice or even marginalize issues affecting men and boys. That's where we ought to be at this point...

If she can't make it something women can identify with and understand, then they won't identify with it and understand it. We're not at the point yet where we can make a case, regardless of its merits, that will stir sympathy or empathy from feminists on its own.

You seem to think that being forced to pay child support without any say whatsoever upon penalty of driver license suspension, wage garnishment and prison time doesn't infringe on a man's rights?

Exactly. This is fishing on the part of that author. They really see (incorrectly so) misogyny everywhere. I prolly should have been clearer on my intent when posting that instead of just throwing it out there...

I would agree... However, when talking about existing "entitlement" issues, all that matters is current real-world outcomes.

another example of male entitlement if the sexes were reversed You do realize that if the sexes were reversed, those two women (now men in your hypothetical) would have gotten their asses handed to them by other male beach-goers as the first cry of foul play by the younger and more relatively attractive female victim, right? I'm not really seeing the entitlement if we play that hypothetical out to a real world conclusion...

I see where you're coming from... If a mom, especially a single mom, expects her son to play without play-weapons, though, then she's projecting expectations from her own childhood play experience onto her son. Thereby expecting him to act like she could reasonably expect a girl to act. That, I think, is what was meant by "defective girl."
/r/MensRights14/01/14 04:56 PM

I don't think it takes a specific mention of girls for readers who understand boys to realize that she's expecting her son to act more like a girl.

This. As I have entered my mid thirties and have a daughter who will one day grow up and leave, I'd like to think that by my early seventies society would grant me the well-earned right to reminisce. I'm worried that I'll be so "creepy" by then that I won't be able to step out my front door without police questioning my motives.
/r/MensRights23/08/13 06:02 PM

That's pretty subjective there, fella. How would you feel if you were suddenly judged to be creepy looking? It will happen eventually. We all age, and the older you get, the more "creepy" looking some people will find you. In fact, if the female empowered with making that call at the park doesn't find you physically attractive, chances are she would describe you as "creepy looking."

Further, porn exploits male physiology also. It's not just a female only thing. Male pornstars are not a realistic representation of average penis size. Also, I have a couple of friends who earned money as male strippers in their younger years. I'm not a frequent patron of strip clubs, but there are nearly universal rules about what guys can do with their hands and what forms of physical contact are acceptable. Not so for female patrons of male strip clubs. Females who go to a club or hire a mal…

That would be justification to charge higher premiums for those specific powerful cars. We don't pay for the average or median risk factor. We don't pay the same premium regardless of what we might drive. We pay based on what we actually drive. We should also pay based on our driving records. Period. No gender based adjustments. There's no reason that a guy with no wrecks or tickets should pay more for insurance on a volvo that a girl the same age with the same record pays on a newer sports car.…

I think you missed the rest of the statistics. You know, the ones where even though young men are more likely to die from a wreck, they are overall less likely to get into a wreck and less likely to make an insurance claim.

Your assertion regarding traffic accident rates for boys vs girls is a common fallacy. http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/handle/2027.42/1007/83596.0001.001.pdf Young men are more likely (1.5 times more likely) to die in an accident. Young female drivers are more likely to have an accident, to be injured non-fatally in an accident, and really across the board represent a higher risk to auto insurance companies than young male drivers. The reason young men pay more for auto insurance is beca…

He's implying that our increasingly feminist society will reap what it has sown by taking only the girls education seriously at the exclusion of boys who also have taken their educations seriously, only to be rewarded with exclusion by faculty and silent complicity from female peers.

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure these are the types of things anyone here has a problem with. Institutionalized double standards would be an issue... Like, for instance, if bachelor parties became illegal, while bachelorette parties weren't legally addressed at all, or were given special privilege like getting free drinks paid for by a special tax imposed on only men... Sure, or as in the case of my old high school, freshman class became 9th grade at the middle school, and sophomores were the first class at the high school. (they did this due to classroom shortages as the high school population grew, but no one in high school dated 9th graders because they didn't go to the same functions or share hall space)

Common sense would be to either adjust consent laws to allow a senior to take a freshman to a school dance without fear of prosecution, or to adjust the schools so that freshmen and seniors are not on the same campus. We're not talking about women in general. We're specifically talking about women in a corporate workplace environment. The reason it's dangerous to get to know them, is that while you're getting to know them, you don't know if they're vindictive and will burn you the moment she get's upset over something insignificant. This, unfortunately, is something that can happen, and it can destroy a male employee who is viewed by the corporation as a "male-minded" sex animal who is a liability.

Most women are not quick to sue, and getting to know her as a person is much better than just assuming that based on her gender she wants to screw you over, because chances are that she doesn't. Most aren't, but some are. Even if no law suit, a complaint to HR could cost a job and even be a bad mark on the resume. Whether or not getting to know a person is worth the effort is a risk assessment, just like everything else. If the risk is high enough, then the benefits of it might not be worth it, …

Default 50/50 custody I agree. Actually no they don't. What did we do before the courts decided? Give the judges strict guidelines and they shouldn't decide shit unless someone is crazy/criminal. I agree. The worst possible scenario is "best interest of the child" it basically lets the judge do what ever he wants and justify it. I mostly agree. What criteria, exactly, do you propose the courts use when determining which party will be awarded custody? They have to use something. I have friends (male friends) who have court ordered primary custody and still had to pay child support for months/years while the courts took their sweet time ironing out that minor detail. I've also got a friend who's got 4 kids with his ex-wife. He's got custody, she's supposed to pay child support. He's seen 0, that's zero, as in not a single, check. I'm in roughly the same boat with lack of research... I only know about the lesbian mayor because I live in the same state... My impression of the system is that judges that enforce the law are more likely elected, short term officials... while judges that actually interpret law in ways that affect how it is fundamentally applied are more likely appointed and for longer terms, sometimes life.
/r/MensRights23/08/11 09:51 PM

Who would appoint them? Elected officials? I'm with you in that I'm a little uncomfortable that my local judges are elected by my voting peers (also in Texas...), but I haven't run across an alternative method. I was under the hopeful assumption that a city that elected an openly lesbian mayor might also be able to oust a homophobic judge.
