There’s something to be said here about WHY women speak in such ways. In many cases, we do actually get results, solve problems, and make/keep friends by using this type of language. I think it is very valuable to become “fluent” in both methods so we can be firm when necessary, but be delicate in other situations that require that kind of finesse. If we can do both well, and know when to use both, we will have an advantage.

I’m the youngest. I have an oldest sister and a middle brother. My sister always seemed bitter about having siblings, and never wanted to babysit for anyone’s kids. We were close enough in age that she didn’t have to watch me and my brother, tho. I ended up becoming the most “caring and helpful one” out of the three of us.

Makes sense. If you know what you want, make those boundaries and timeframes known and find out whether it works out in a timely manner. If he’s not into that then find a guy who is. There are very many guys out there.

Shoot, that’s a long engagement. Is it normal to push for engagement so soon and then spend so long being engaged??

Like are you only staying with him because you need to marry SOMEONE in 18 months, or you’re just only willing to waste 18 months per relationship if marriage isn’t just around corner? If the first, I see why you wouldn’t want to give up on someone you’ve already spent a few months with. If the second, 18 months is a long time to tell if a relationship has potential

I’ve heard that. I also heard that it takes a woman something like 14 dates to be sure she wants to make a commitment to a guy, whereas the man tends to take only like 3 dates to decide. Not sure whether that makes one or both of them seem shallow for different reasons? Like how well does he really know her after three dates?? Why fall so hard so fast? But then the girl: why take so long to decide? What are you trying to find out? But it’s an interesting trend for sure.

I think EXCITED is the key, not the time frame. Once my bf and I started talking like “well I really do see myself with you forever. You make me happy and I’d sure like to stay with you” we just got giddy. Like “aw hellz yeah, we’ve done it. We found each other. Life has a plan and a purpose, and no matter where we go or what happens, we will deal with it together and it will work out because we make each other happy and are excited to work on life together.” If y’all aren’t excited... marriage …

My fiancé and I have been dating 4 years (engaged for 1). He’s been working for a year after graduating college, and I just graduated this summer. I’d like to make some money before we try planning a party. I just hate thinking of asking anyone to help us pay for it. If it’s not our money, then people will have oPINiOnS. I would much rather be like “here is a display of my hard work. Please enjoy the booze and feast in celebration of our successful lives now and in the future!” But atm, it would…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
