I really don't like arguing in front of the children. When mine starts with that shit I flat out tell her we'll talk about it later. Usually by the time 'later' comes she's calmed down anyway and we can discuss it like the adults we're supposed to be.

I fucked up and failed the Men of March challenge, on the 11th day. At the time, I rationalized it to myself a bunch of different ways, but I now see that I was just giving myself an out. My punishment is to start over alone, knowing that I am now be working out of sync with the guys that were able to stay committed to themselves from day 1. I've learned something about myself, and it's ugly to look at and I don't like it. I'm not as strong as I thought I was. TFA wrote some shit that I didn't 1…

The Ivy League Law School was the kicker. She wasn't stupid, she was prepping her beta bucks.

Just some feedback from last night. Wife already had dinner planned out, and I usually get back just as kids are going to bed. No big deal. I cooked dinner, we had a beer each, and afterwards I announced we were going to do arts and crafts, grabbed some paper and the kids coloring pens, and we each drew a picture. I told her to be serious about it and try hard, and when we were done, we hung them up next to the kids artwork. We even signed our names. We had a good laugh at how ridiculous it was,…

I've spent the last few months, if not years looking at how to improve myself. I'm a regular reader here, and I read self improvement books all the time. Despite this, in the area of being a family man I have failed countless times. I've been yelled at by my wife for being engrossed in my smartphone when the kids are asking me a question. I never plan anything at the weekends, waiting for her to tell me what we're doing every time. I 'hold frame', but I'm not contributing enough of the fun stuff…

Just spotted this a few minutes before midnight. I was about to jerk off. Instead I've done 100 push-ups. I failed challenges like this before. I really don't want to fail this one.

Love your work, really excited about this.
/r/MarriedRedPill27/02/17 04:54 PM

My sister in law didn't take her husband's name at all, citing her need to hold onto her 'identity'. This was pre-RP for me, but I always thought there was something vaguely emasculating about it. When the subject briefly came up with my fiance, I simply told her outright that it would be a deal-breaker for me. You want the ring, you wear the name. She didn't have problem with it.

A shared bank account can help you both be financially accountable to each other, as well as simplify payment of bills etc. Giving her access to email, phone, effectively wearing a GPS tracker for her is all kinds of fucked up and if you're honest with yourself, you already know it.
/r/askMRP15/02/17 03:46 PM

Completely agree, and was having similar thoughts myself yesterday. She'd asked if we were doing anything for it, I told her I'd cook and to dress nice. No presents, no flowers, just a card in the morning, and I picked up food on the way home from work. While cooking, I put some music on and reflected on how differently I viewed this situation that I'd been in so many times before. Sure I was making the food, and had bought wine etc, but there was no expectation, no covert contract. I was doing …

I'd just laugh it off, she's inviting you to fight / play a game. Don't engage on her terms.

This isn't a support group. Among other things, we are a group of men trying to better ourselves. The locker-room style is intentional. The failings you have revealed are being called out and shown to you in a direct manner, which hurts because at first, no-one likes to be called out, no-one wants to own their shit. But this is the best way to fix problems. Identify it, take responsibility for it and do the work needed to fix it. Your self-perception is being challenged. Will you continue to tak…

Why is the thought of married men trying to improve themselves so offensive?

The Slight Edge is another good one, although the author is into pyramid schemes, which I found disappointing. But hey, the guy who wrote The Way of Men is gay, so maybe it doesn't matter.

You had a row in front of your kid that escalated to physical violence. This is upsetting to them - they won't care who started it, all they see is mommy and daddy fighting. No-one should have to explain to you how damaging this behavior will be if it's permitted to continue. You are both to blame for not having an agreed approach in place for how to handle your kids at night. The plan should be discussed during the day when you do have 'the time to deal with a mutiny'. The kids should see a uni…

First, don't tell her shit on what your doing and don't run to her to get a gold star when your done. When I remember, this works well, I need to be more consistent. Second, amused mastery is your BF in these micro-management scenes. Just start laughing and carry on. I find this extremely difficult, as during these situations she is usually pointing out something valid, and I'm angry with myself more than anything. Is it a case of fake it till you make it? Good shout on returning to NMMNG and WI…

Some great insights here, thank you for this! I will do some research on how to apply the 80/20 rule to my shit, sounds like this was key for you. Also you're right about doing shit because it has to be done. There's still a fair old chunk of angry teenager in my brain. If someone orders me to do something, I naturally resist even if they're right. This is a frame problem, I will keep reminding myself to focus on what is important.

In Mark Mansons' book Models he says to 'polarise early' when meeting new women you're attracted to. The idea being you present yourself very early on as someone who is interested in a romantic/intimate relationship rather than pretending to be a platonic friend and getting all butthurt when things don't go how you want. A lot of the advice given here for initiating inside a long term relationship goes along the lines of 'caveman' - just pile in there, and go for it. I believe the two things are…

NZT Lifting 3 times a week, doing SL5x5. I started from scratch a month ago despite being able to lift a bit more as I want to see a nice progression again before I start stalling. Starting to see gains and have a co-worker to compare notes with doing the same program. I quit drinking. Alcohol has been a major cause of problems across the board for me. Frame loss, outright stupid actions, spending too much money, eating shit and behaving like a retarded teenager instead of a husband and father. …

Thanks for this. I do have some good male friends but the conversation rarely strays into serious shit. Maybe it's on me to try and strengthen/deepen them, I'll definitely give it some thought. Also, 3 pounds!! Fuck me.

Sounds like you're the one who is 'beta' here dude. This guy has effortlessly pulled your wife away from you, raising serious questions about the marriage up that point (which YOU are responsible for). You don't give us any details about yourself, or really anything to explain why she'd suddenly start frequenting a dating website and swing into the arms of the first guy to display interest. Mate-guarding is universally frowned on here by the way - it makes you look insecure and weak, and as you'…

Thanks for the recommendation! Amazon have a sale on for book one, so I picked it up straight away. It's a lot cheaper than a therapy session too.

Physical Lifting is going well, have trained 5 days a week for the past three weeks without missing a session. Numbers are going up. Waistline has shrunk by a centimeter since last week. Weight is fluctuating, this might be due to a 'cheat' day I had over the weekend which got slightly out of control. Need to keep the nutrition dialed in. Ended a three week stint of not drinking, only had a few beers but felt crap the next day, mostly just deflated by it. Fear of missing out got the better of me…

Physical Lifting is going well, numbers are creeping back up, and I've not missed a workout in 3 weeks. Haven't been to martial arts in at least a month - I've been telling myself it's because "I need to lose some weight first" but the reality is I'm lazy & scared of going back cause I know I'll get my ass kicked hard the first few times. I just need to get over that and go train. Weight is dropping off dramatically thanks to no alcohol, no sugar, no junk food, and strict adherence to my diet pl…

I'm new to MRP but commenting anyway because I see a huge parallel with my own situation. This was not a shit test. You took the low-carb lunch in, presumably because of a plan you made to eat healthy or whatever. Then she sees that you're not sticking to the plan you made. Women hate this, and can't help but attack us for it. Rather than focus on her snide comment, it's more useful to look at your actions that caused it. As men we have to be seen as following through on the plans we make, other…

You may have desensitized yourself to your lady's beauty and body. I hate admitting this to myself but you've hit the nail on the head here. My frame of reference is completely fucked. Hopefully the reboot will fix this in time.

The detail you've offered around the time frame is extremely helpful, cheers. I'm also aware of the "one month per year of being a drunk captain" rule, so I will bear these both in mind as I continue fixing my shit. One thing I've still not done is actually write out my MAP. I've set some new rules for myself but not planned the whole thing out in detail. I'll do this today.

Thank you for the comprehensive response. I can see I have a long way to go before I get anyway near being able to command her respect. I need learn how to follow through on my plans. I'll use the weekly Own Your Shit thread to track my progress. Why does she need to buy you whatever foods? We get our food delivered online. She arranges this and has done since we moved in together. When I announce I'll get my own food, she reacts badly. I will stop worrying about that, sack up and get my own shi…

Thanks for this. Her skepticism is completely valid based on what she's seen so far. I'll focus on getting my act together. I need to prove to myself that I can follow through on something, nevermind what she thinks.
