Holy moly, that's horrible, I'm so sorry. I hope you are proud of yourself, both for dealing with him all this time and for finally getting out. I can't imagine how difficult this has been for you. I wish you healing, and the best of luck moving forward.

If it's the same effort for the wife either way, then why should the husband do it? And, again, I'm operating under the assumption that there's nothing objectively wrong with how he's doing things. That's my whole point. If your boyfriend corrects you on something when you don't need to be corrected, then there's no reason for you to change. If your way is just as good as his, then he can get over his preferences, or do it himself. That's our difference in thought here. You think the wife is mak…

First, that really sucks, and I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Second, if her husband were as awful as many commenters seem to think, she would have said so. The fact that the worst she can come up with is "wrong" and "mismatched" means he's doing just fine, and she is being picky, stuck in her own ways.

Yes ma'am, I did. "Doing everything wrong" means ugly ponytails and ugly clothes. Thus, part two of the sentence, "now he's doing nothing" refers to the same things. He's still being a good and caring father and provider; he just doesn't want to bother with giving the girls low ponies if his wife is going to demand high ones every time.

He's not opting out of parenting—ponytails are not parenting.

No, and ponytails aren't the equivalent of parenting, either. That's the point :) Congrats, you agree with me!

Anyway while y'all are here go read Why Does He Do That?: Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men by Lundy Bancroft. You can download the ebook for free from Library Genesis (might want an ad blocker though). It has nothing to do with my comment but it's a good and important book !!

Even if they had liked me, so what? It doesn't excuse any of the hurt they caused. This exactly. Doesn't matter if a guy is over the moon for you and would lasso the thing down for your affections. If negative feelings don't excuse negative actions, why would positive feelings? Feelings are never an excuse for actions. They can be reasons, yeah, duh. But they don't excuse anything. That's human decency 101.

Oh, it's in so many romance stories. Drives me mad! It isn't right for a guy to literally shove a girl against a wall and kiss her, or for him to be persistent in his pursuit when she says no, or for him to flip his lid every time his girlfriend (or worse, crush/friend) talks to another guy. It's not hot; it's not romantic. It's creepy and abusive, and it needs to stop being portrayed as okay.

Thank you for this; just downloaded.

You didn't do that to yourself—he did. It's his fault, not yours. Being abused is never your fault. I hope you're doing okay. He sounds like a total scumbag. But you're free now, right? Take solace in that. ♡

few things more annoying than being mentally exhausted and having to go carrying around a chair So the six month pregnant wife can carry it when she wants to use it, but a full grown man can't? Mmkay.

I think so, but your best bet is to check yourself. The site has a few domains, but libgen.lc is my go-to.

Just checked—it's on Library Genesis, too. :) If you (or anyone else) want help with using the site, hmu. It's simple enough once you get the hang of it, but I've hit snags before, and I'm happy to help anyone that needs it!

You might want to check out The Gift of Fear by Gavin De Becker and Why Does He Do That? by Lundy Bancroft. (Both books are available for free from Library Genesis if you don't mind ebooks.) As terrifying as it is to see the reality of so many horrid men, advice on seeing the signs & getting out helps a lot.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Women are nurturing by nature, and this quality is encouraged by those around us. But we must be careful with it. We mustn't let our kindness be taken advantage of. As loath as I am to admit it, sometimes we have to be mean to keep ourselves safe!

Two parts of this seem very important to me. He was very nice and respectful at first, and He apologized for his actions. This is critical, not because it shows he's a good guy deep down—if he were a HVM, he wouldn't have said such sleazy things or asked you for pictures—but because it's evidence that talk is cheap. It's a great reminder for me, personally. LVM can play nice, but that doesn't mean they are. Heed the warning signs. Good on you for ditching him!

Sometimes you can't "become scary." One, it's tough when you're genuinely afraid. Two, if things turn violent, you might not make it out. Maybe you're safe in the store, but what if he follows you to your car? Workplace? Home? We needn't always be frightened rabbits, but sometimes engaging is worse.
