Am I screwed for the rest of my life?Twice divorced here. Also lived with a woman who I didn’t marry. I’ll be single for the rest of my life. One of my friends just got divorced. His marriage was the one everyone thought would work. He and his wife were crazy about each other for 22 years. Then one day he came home to find a letter on the table. She had packed her stuff and moved out. Very few marriages work long term. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/08/23 06:41 PM
UltimatumUltimatums are never a good reason to marry. If you think your life would be better being married to this woman, then yeah, go for it. But fear of losing her is a dumb reason to marry her. You said you probably can’t do better…I assume that means she’s physically attractive and you feel like you’re punching above your weight class. If you got her, you can get another woman equally hot or hotter as long as you have game. But if she’s giving you an ultimatum, she ain’t that good. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/09/22 06:36 PM
Hello. My one and only(hopefully) divorce court date is in a couple of weeks. What type of attire should I come to court in? I was thinking 3 piece suit. Would that be too much and would that be frown upon on the judge? Thank youI get that. :) | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/04/22 10:03 PM
Hello. My one and only(hopefully) divorce court date is in a couple of weeks. What type of attire should I come to court in? I was thinking 3 piece suit. Would that be too much and would that be frown upon on the judge? Thank youMy divorce court date; I wore chinos and a dress shirt with a tie. I figured it didn’t matter what I wore; I was going to get sodomized anyway. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/04/22 12:30 AM
I need a hobby, but i don't want one. I need friends but i don't want any. I need a girl in my life but i know i can't put up with BS anymore. How to proceed ?I’m right there with you op. My divorce hasn’t happened yet but we’re well on our way. I’m finding that I just have no interest in Friday’s, hobbies, other women, etc. I did however recently travel to the opposite side of the country to visit and old friend. He is single and always goes on about his anxiety and depression so I thought it would do us both some good to hang out for a few days. It was kind of exhausting. Like-every walking hour he threw a million things at me…hey man, you wanna rid… | /r/Divorce_Men | 13/04/22 02:17 AM
I’d rather hire escorts than deal with another relationshipNot true. I’m ugly as fuck and I’ve had fwb over the years. Been married for a long time though about to get divorced so have to try to recall how to establish those fwb relationships. I have a single friend doing the sugar daddy thing. Seems gross to me. He explained it as, women come to his house, they have sex and he helps them out with their bills. I called it prostitution but he quickly pushed back…no man it’s not like that! I don’t judge; sugar daddies or sugar babies. Again, seems gross t… | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/04/22 11:50 PM
Got a 2nd job and almost entire check has been garnished.I think the overwhelming majority of men will happily support their kids. But the way the courts treat men in these situations is just terrible. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/12/21 04:16 PM
Got a 2nd job and almost entire check has been garnished.Sorry for your situation op. I had a friend who went through a divorce. His wife got everything plus full custody of their kid with him getting two weekends per month. Wife got the house and everything in it, plus a child support and alimony order. He rented a cheap apartment and with careful budgeting, he was able to live. But his living conditions were very sparse-in that, he was able to buy a basic, single mattress bed. The only other thing he had in his apartment was a plastic patio chair in… | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/12/21 05:41 PM
Why get an attorney?Things may be civil now. But your wife may think that she deserves most if not all of that $1 million savings. Maybe she thinks 70% of your net pay is fair alimony. Maybe not. Maybe she’s a reasonable person. But if I were a betting man, I would bet no man on this sub who’s been through a divorce would say their ex was reasonable when deciding how much money/stuff they had to give to their ex. My ex sure wasn’t reasonable. She took me to court seven times. Every time the judge would rule and tha… | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/09/21 09:05 PM

Need lawyerI’m also in nova and am also attorney shopping. I’ve reached out to several local firms. Many haven’t bothered to respond. A few replies that they are not accepting new clients. Only one has contacted me about a consultation…$500/hour. Im still looking though while I plan a consultation with the one. Good luck op. It’s rough. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/08/21 02:37 PM

Inheritance questionAwesome! Thanks dude | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/08/21 10:24 PM
Inheritance questionIt actually came during the marriage though. It wasn’t “earned” but it was received. I hope you’re right-that will certainly make life easier, and of course I will ask every attorney I interview while doing consultations. But as I said, I just thought I would ask here while I’m attorney shopping. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/08/21 03:03 PM
Inheritance questionI don’t think that’s how it works. If we’re married and I own a share of the property, my understanding is it is communal property between my wife and I. I don’t think I can just say that it isn’t. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/08/21 01:42 PM
How can I make ends meet by being divorced?I was in the same boat op. When I divorced, I struggled financially. I had to borrow money from family just to eat, pay bills, etc. I got lucky in that I found a new, much higher paying job within about 4-5 months of divorce being final. But it was in a different state and I literally had to borrow money from family to move. It absolutely sucked. But in the end it worked out. Best of luck man. Divorce is rough. It’s 1000 times rougher when you have a dick. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/08/21 10:50 AM
Potential divorce incoming…have questionsWow…today I learned the $200k isn’t sufficient to start over. Wild… I hear you though. This is gonna suck financially. I hope my medical issues will factor in as I will most likely have to stop working earlier than a normal retirement. But I’m a man so probably not. Fuck | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/08/21 11:56 AM
Potential divorce incoming…have questionsI appreciate your thorough input. Pretty much everything we have was acquired during the marriage. When we got married we had nothing. We were low earners and didn’t own anything other than an old pickup truck for me and an old compact car for her. We bought the primary residence a few years after getting married. We didn’t have a down payment because I am a veteran and have the VA home loan. Then we bought the second place a couple years later. The down payment on that came from our shared savi… | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/08/21 09:10 PM
Potential divorce incoming…have questionsRight, that’s what I thought-and am fine with an equal distribution. The only concern I have at this point is how much I may have to pay her. It sounds like my quality of life won’t be considered as important as hers (aka I’m the cash cow.) I really wish I could find a new, lower paying job like…today. It’s such bullshit…all these years I’ve been busting my ass to climb higher and higher. I’ve gone back to school, I’ve taken on special assignments that literally had me working sometimes 16-18 ho… | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/08/21 02:05 PM
Potential divorce incoming…have questionsVirginia. Another thought I had…I have some medical issues just are going to get worse and will never get better. My job is extremely stressful and demanding. I’ve been looking for a new job with the preference of lower levels of responsibility (and obviously this means lower pay.) At this point in my life, it’s about quality of life. My health is declining fast and I need an easier day. If I did get stuck paying alimony and then found a lower paying job, would I be able to get that alimony adju… | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/08/21 12:53 PM
Potential divorce incoming…have questionsPer your last point, we’ve been married more than ten years. We are in our tenth year now, hitting 11 soon. My thought was, if she seeks alimony, I wonder if I could agree to give her my cut of the equity up to the full amount of alimony. Don’t know if it works that way. We have a significant amount of equity. Around $300k in the primary residence and around $150k in the secondary residence. Given that we would each walk away with over $200k, alimony doesn’t make sense. Seems a $200k cushion wou… | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/08/21 12:50 PM
