Serious question for those of you who believe in male financial abortion rights. If the baby is 100% the woman's choice and responsibility then why should men have any custody rights at all?My point is that stopping state support because of the pressure put on it by stopping child support would result in problems. I have no idea where you get insults or ignorance from my post. If anything, I would think that it would be ignorant to assume everyone in the world has the same opportunities and lifestyle as me, and that those types of things have no effect on how one sees the world. It would be insulting to assume that as everyone must live like me, the only reason they would think dif… | /r/MensRights | 07/08/12 03:43 AM
Serious question for those of you who believe in male financial abortion rights. If the baby is 100% the woman's choice and responsibility then why should men have any custody rights at all? Then the ones who will suffer the most are the unwanted children being born, and those least able to help themselves. Talking with you, I realise that I'm coming from this issue from a very privileged place - I live in a country where abortion isn't a big deal, and I move in social circles that are very educated, financially secure, and generally doing well in life. I don't know anyone who has had a child they didn't want, or lives a life where they could be deceived or forced into parenthood. T… | /r/MensRights | 07/08/12 02:26 AM
Serious question for those of you who believe in male financial abortion rights. If the baby is 100% the woman's choice and responsibility then why should men have any custody rights at all?No, you misunderstood me completely. I was saying in a perfect world, child support wouldn't be an issue because people wouldn't be having babies that weren't wanted by both parties. No one would be abandoning families and having to be chased up - because it seems like common sense not to have a child you can't support. I was comparing it to situations like drunk driving, in that although it seems like common sense not to get into a car and try to drive when you're blind drunk, apparently it's n… | /r/MensRights | 06/08/12 12:11 PM
Serious question for those of you who believe in male financial abortion rights. If the baby is 100% the woman's choice and responsibility then why should men have any custody rights at all?I am 100% unequivocally against any form of involuntary child support. The problem with this is that someone has to pay for the child. If you have a child, and then decide to leave, I don't think that is fair to the parent that remains or the child, or the wider community, that you could just upstakes and go, with no further obligations. If everyone was honest with each other, and took personal responsibility for their reproduction, and there were no social taboos/legal restrictions surrounding … | /r/MensRights | 06/08/12 10:17 AM
An argument for financial abortion/legal paternal surrenderBy that argument, there is no such thing as paternal rights, and no willing father who wants to spend time with his child has any right to fight for custody or visitation. Given that most fathers are willing and want to be a part of their kid's lives - not to mention most kids want their father in their life too - this hurts far more people than it helps. | /r/MensRights | 08/06/12 02:28 AM
Feeling mutilatedHere in Australia, you have to go out of your way to find someone who will perform the procedure, as it is not 'the norm' (yay). I think it is wider than just family - not only to look like older brothers/fathers, but wider society too. My SIL is American, and she wanted her son cut because otherwise he would 'look different'. Maybe in the US (is it common there?), but here, particularly with the next generation, it is the exception not the rule. | /r/MensRights | 06/06/12 02:01 AM
How can I respond to the moral statement that fathers "should" pay child support?Yes, you are right, I don't get it. It is an issue about unwilling custodial parents vs unwilling non-custodial parents, not fathers and mothers. Of course the system is not perfect. Of course there is the potential in the system for all types of parents to be screwed over by a vindictive other parent or the state. The non-custodial parent is treated exactly the same whether it is a man or a woman. They are held to the same accountability. It is not dishonest to ask for different laws regarding … | /r/MensRights | 02/05/12 12:34 AM
How can I respond to the moral statement that fathers "should" pay child support? Please, show me the laws that give women this right to a financial abortion that men are being denied. Show me how safe haven laws are biased towards women, and against men. Show me how "men want financial abortions because they hate women" makes any less sense than "people oppose financial abortions because they hate men". Both are stupid generalizations, that are patently untrue, or both are accurate descriptions of the situation, just from opposite sides. For the record, for me it is the form… | /r/MensRights | 01/05/12 04:48 AM
How can I respond to the moral statement that fathers "should" pay child support? That is quite telling that you assume it is because of /female privilege/. I didn't say anything about the gender of the parent seeking a financial abortion. Neither parent can financially abort the child if it is not surrendered to the state/adopted by someone else. Whether you wanted the child or not is not a deciding factor - you are the parent, you have to do something towards the raising of it. You can assert my answer is incorrect - of course you can - but that is a very rude and condescen… | /r/MensRights | 01/05/12 03:00 AM
How can I respond to the moral statement that fathers "should" pay child support?I'm sorry, what? The OP asked why so many people are opposed to financial abortion, and so i offered an answer. You don't get to change my answer to that - you get to give your own answer. Yes? What about them? Does your mortgage payment obligation change if you lose your job? Does your electricity bill? The amount of child support you have been assessed as being responsible for is just like these. If your circumstances change, you contact the relevant party (CSA, bank, power supplier) and discu… | /r/MensRights | 01/05/12 12:32 AM
How can I respond to the moral statement that fathers "should" pay child support? The reason so many are opposed to financial abortions is because unlike abortion, there is still a child who needs to be looked after. Whether you meant to make it or not doesn't matter - you still made it. The only cases where a man could be excepted from this rule are if he did not consent to sex, if he had his sperm stolen, or if he is not legally mentally competent to consent to sex. I would have no problem with any of these exceptions being explicitly passed into law (currently it seems to … | /r/MensRights | 30/04/12 06:02 AM
