Read Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics. He discusses how most virtues fall on a spectrum of 2 extremes, one of excess and another of deficiency. Your goal is to find the "golden mean," or the perfect middle ground, something that is subjective for each individual; e.g. bravery is somewhere in the middle of recklessness and cowardice. One way to achieve this golden mean is by intentionally starting off near the extreme that is more desirable to you and then gradually tempering it down to your ideal …

If it's someone you've never met or seen before, in the first sentence you speak to her, there's nothing you can say that will engender a deeper emotional reaction. What will do that is how you talk in all the time after that first bit. So why not be honest and tell her what you think in that first bit? You can, of course, be more creative and compliment on a specific aspect of her that you like.

The problem with hobby based groups is people in those talk about anything but the hobby. This was true in my EMT shifts in college or salsa classes or even my current research conference.

high-value women also tend to look for men they're physically attracted to. Exactly. If you're a high-value woman (i.e. beautiful, intelligent and successful, nice body, and interesting hobbies/skills), then you know you're the top tiny percent of the population. It's only natural for her to seek someone at the same level as a partner...just like if you were a guy with those traits, you'd look for someone at the same level. Having said that individual women are different, so even if a guy doesn'…

Hey, loved this post as well as the more recent one on mindset. I wholeheartedly agree on the daily goal of improving yourself. In fact, it's something I've strived for throughout my adolescence to my current age of 23. I've been academically very successful throughout high school and college (salutatorian, magna cum laude, etc.), am good at my current job as bioengineering researcher as my colleagues frequently consult me for various things, workout about 5 times a week (1.5-2 hrs each day), dr…

I haven't really accomplished everything I want to. E.g. that dream of becoming a joint-replacement orthopedic is a long way away! I can also always improve my physique, get to higher levels within my 5 languages and learn others, and I still have plenty to learn in salsa and other styles. And I think this striving to be better is common to most of us.

I feel like my problem is that I don't act entitled enough. I don't think much of myself, but most people would probably consider me a catch: I often get compliments on my face and physique, I'm tall, dress well, academically pretty successful and well-read, can hold mature conversations in a wide variety of areas, and have various outside interests (am pentalingual, self-taught portraitist, and pretty good at salsa but can also do a bit of bachata, swing, and tango). But I still always feel not…

Hey man, as a fellow Indian-American, I 'd actually add to be proud of your Indian as well as American heritage - it's kind of unique that you have grown up in the collectivist family-oriented Indian culture as well as the far more individualist American culture; you just have to use your own reason to find the best of both worlds. As long as you don't have hair coming out of your ears, you'll be fine; no need to worry about the hairiness. As for head hair, read up a little bit on what constitut…

Pretty much exactly what I was gonna write. I second that Frankenstein-turns-into-desirable-dancer - that's literally the case with every single person, at least in Latin dance. Facts are that yes in the beginning your movements are going to be a little awkward and yes in the beginning you won't know enough fancy stuff to have girls lining up to dance with you. Every beginner deals with this, and I dealt with it by keeping a couple things in mind: 1) your goal whether you're advanced or beginner…

Latin dance. Not only is it an awesome skill (imho) in itself, but when you go take formal lessons at a dance studio or even the basic hour-long lessons at your local bars and clubs, you get to practice with every single woman participating in the lesson - don't even have to deal with any sort of approach anxiety, and you both already have interesting topics (i.e. opinions on salsa/bachata, previous experience, the bar itself, etc.) to break the ice. During social dances, you as a man are sort o…

Not any job will necessarily give you a head start. A part-time cafeteria, restaurant, library, clerk, etc. (i.e. the majority of jobs available to undergraduates and high school students) won't help you in the long run if you want to be a surgeon or engineer or lawyer. For these and many other prestigious jobs, you actually are better off spending that time getting closer to that 4.0 and doing research and volunteering on the side. Having said that, you're right; when you truly know your stuff …

Yeah, med school is definitely going to be a very high volume of work and doesn't even necessarily require a huge deal of intelligence (emphasizes memory way more). I'm definitely gonna be sacrificing all my hobbies except lifting in med school. Interesting post. I'd like to know though whether I'm spending my twenties well. That's the thing; don't make meeting attractive women as a primary goal. Go above all for the sake of working on your skill and for self-amusement. Can't control others' perceptions, but the above two can definitely be attained with the right focus.
/r/seduction17/04/16 06:29 AM

I absolutely agree with your point about doing it for actually exploring it as a hobby, not merely for meeting women. Something I'd add is that a lot of the moves involved in different social dance (as opposed to performance dance) styles are very similar when you compare Latin styles like salsa, bachata, and merengue or other ones like ballroom, swing, blues, jazz, etc. The main difference is in the beats of the music and the general rhythm. Hence, even in night clubs that play hip hop or EDM, …

If you're afraid to go out to a bar or club by yourself, consider going to free dance lessons hosted at bars/clubs. You have an appropriate excuse that you want to learn the dance, you get to dance with every girl there in the lesson, and during the social dance period you have to ask a girl for a dance. If you like her and if she's up for it, invite her for a drink at the bar. And so on. At the least, even if you get no number or anything, you still learned a bit of a dance style. Eventually, o…

That's some wonderful insight. Dude, I was stuck with a very similar group of friends when I was in college. My advice to you would be to not lose their friendship if you genuinely like them. BUT, limit your time with them and start branching out to other social circles via classmates, student clubs/organizations, frats if your uni has any, etc. Trust me when I say that you'll always be stuck with this frustration if you don't branch out and spend majority of your social time with them.

Practice some moves beforehand. Try this and this. Get comfortable with a few solo and partner dance moves that you like and just go do your thing at the club. As for talking, the loud music is the perfect opportunity to get close to her and speak in her ear. Just keep it short and flirtatious.

Well from the last woman (my dream woman) I had intensely fallen in love with: Her gaze, but this doesn't mean requiring a certain eye shape or color; it's simply the way she looks at me - the gestalt overall gaze rather than the specific parts. Cleverness is also not mutually exclusive with discussing the above topics just as teasing banter aren't mutually exclusive with it. Dance lessons like in salsa, bachata, tango, etc. Look at your local Spanish bars - a lot of them offer free lessons every week. During the social dance phase you get to ask the girls for a dance. Lol dumbass confirmed. Supporting an argument with a meme takes the discussion nowhere. But even if that meme presents an absolute truth, talking about culture or religion doesn't mean the conversation is logical or even meaningful. I've had drunk religion conversations with my college buddies and have conversed with drunk people on the topics listed in the meme, and it invariably ends up being some of the most idiotic rambling I've ever witnessed or participated in.

If you haven't, consider the advice given in Models about this. You basically give her 3 tries. This was Strike 1; politely say that you understand and ask what other day works better for her. If she flakes in that second, it's Strike 2; you can express some disappointment but give her one last chance, in case she genuinely couldn't make it. I got one simple general tip: Learn conversational threading. IOW, she says something, listen closely to the main topics, then either ask follow-up question on those topics or interject with your experiences/knowledge that's relevant to one or more of those topics. This intrinsically involves presence, focus, and close listening - these things are so commonly recommended, but in practice it's hard to concretely "be present" or "focus" or "listen closely". By focusing on conversational threading,…

For this, I like Mark Manson's idea of 3 strikes and you're out. Essentially, you try to initiate something or set up a date. If she flakes 3 times (you give her 3 opportunities as a benefit of doubt in case she genuinely couldn't respond ), you say it was nice knowing you regardless and move on.

Okay, we can't control others' behavior, which is motivated by a whole host of variables unknown to us. There's no point even wondering why they might act as they did. Hence, what we can look at are our own faults and mistakes. So in this case what I would have done is approach from the side first. I would have tried to praise on something non-innate (my rule of thumb is intent over content ). As for texting, Manson directly addresses this - keep texting straightforward and to the minimum; it's primarily for setting up a date. Whatever effort you put into texting is futile as it won't mean much in the long run. Also, for the dilemma of being vulnerable while not needy, you're missing one thing. You have to have a clear idea of what kind of things you like and what sort of things you will not tolerate. If you accommodate her even when she crosses those boundaries, you're being needy. A…

Here are a few other things, you put yourself in a favorable position in general - becoming in a favorable position with women then is a piece of cake: Work on your metacognition - IOW, become more aware of how you think, learn, argue, and read. It's difficult if you don't plan out your days. However, I'm not saying plan out how you'll spend every single second beforehand - you just need a loose plan of when you should be doing what. Also, with the mundane tasks and chores, time yourself. Time how long it takes you to brush your teeth, shower, eat a meal, etc. And every time, try to beat the time as much as possible. Maybe consider giving up traditionally relaxing things like TV, movies, games, social media, unimportant web surfing, etc. Also, consider clustering all chores and other mundane activities together - e.g. laundry, preparing meals for the week, housecleaning, etc. Do them in one big time block; especially, cook the meals in bulk once or twice a week - this will save a lot of time and money. To boil it down to a simple rule of thumb, how does this sound: praise intent over content? Introversion and extroversion are NOT merely states of mind or moods. They are personality traits in that they always influence and manifest themselves in most situations the person is in. In fact, Hans Eysenck and Jeffrey Alan Gray did various studies to show that there are inherent brain differences between the two traits.

Mark Manson mentions this in Models. Basically you don't want to waste too much time on her, but you also want to give her the benefit of doubt in case she genuinely couldn't respond. So his advice is "3 strikes and you're out" - try 3 times in total and if she doesn't want it, you acknowledge it, tell her it was still nice to meet you, and move on to the next one.
/r/seduction10/03/16 01:05 AM

The magic technique to never get rejected while still approaching girls is to change your paradigm about rejection - see rejection as an incompatibility rather than a defeat. By figuring out that incompatibility early on, you just saved yourself a ton of time and effort trying to futilely please her.

Points 1 and 3 seem to contradict themselves. How are you gonna talk with headphones on when you take them off right before approaching her?
/r/seduction02/03/16 12:51 AM

Bingo. This comment captures the essence of Models the best. I like to see vulnerability as figuratively putting your head on the guillotine and giving the woman the trigger. If she pulls the trigger, the interaction ends and you move on; if she doesn't, it's a match. The only exceptions to this would be taboos like perversion, rapy intentions, psychopathic intentions, etc.
/r/seduction25/02/16 07:37 PM
1

Manson does advocate being vulnerable in that first interaction; the only things to not be open about are psychopathic or perverted or other taboo thoughts, for which one should be getting help anyway. The overall goal, as described in Models, is to polarize the women you meet so that their response is either "Fuck yes" or "Hell no". It helps you quickly identify the Unreceptive women and allows you to get some sort of response from the Neutral women.

As humans we use patterns to do this guesswork for us. ...Or you could talk to the woman and figure out whether she is a quality one without having to do any guesswork. ...engulfing myself in nothing but interacting with women. As I said, you can't just judge internal characteristics based on appearance. That first girl could be a porn star for all you know (though even strictly on physical appearance, I'm not into bangs). For me, quality is external feminine beauty combined with high general intelligence, preferably in the STEM or STEM-related fields. I'd personally find it sexy if the girl could make me feel a little dumb on something.
/r/seduction16/02/16 04:12 AM

I guess that depends on what you mean by quality women. I don't identify a woman as high quality just based on how good-looking she is.
/r/seduction15/02/16 07:42 PM

As for attracting high quality women, you have to be a high quality person. This means being passionate about career and hobbies, fitness, being virtuous, etc. Fixing up a few techniques or tactics won't change much - by doing so, you're essentially trying to get a surface level quickfix, while the actual problems fester underneath. So no, I don't think that guy can be taught some perfect technique; he'll have to do the hard work of improving inside out. Those techniques can help but only when t…

You could get even more creative, depending on the conversation. E.g. you could say "I'd love to explore some Impressionist or Modern art at Museum X" or "I'd love to learn some Russian phrases over some coffee." I usually hate to talk about myself, which sometimes is a convo killer, since it should be reciprocal, two way. I think this is where you have to use your social intelligence. If the person you're talking to seems more reserved or there's a slight language barrier, then you have to switch your mind to contributing more and making more effort. If the opposite is more talkative, you let him/her talk. In both cases, the interesting person is the one who makes the opposite feel at least a little spe…

And why do you assume I don't already go out of my comfort zone or see each woman (or man) as a unique human being? Physiologically, it's because of your sympathetic nervous system. When you're nervous (like at a date), your body goes into "fight-or-flight" mode - similar but less intensely to the way it would if a bear jumped out toward you while you're taking a walk. We produce saliva primarily to aid in digestion, but in a fight-or-flight mode, digestion is the least important activity your body can commit to. So it ends up minimizing saliva production - an effect of epinephrine production. Also, your body…

I get what you mean, but the above poster said "a woman paying her half of the bill". This could just be a formality between friends or even just two colleagues having lunch, assuming it's established as not a date. But even in a date, from what I've heard, when the woman pays her half, it might actually be an indicator that she's not interested and wants to end it at that date. But in a date, if she strongly insists on paying some or all of your half, then I'd agree with you.

What would be your response if someone on the street picks a fight with you and pulls out a weapon (knife, gun, etc.)? What if he's got nothing to lose and his only desire is to put 30 bullets into you or slash you up as badly as possible (and these sort of people do exist)?

I like this post in general, but what exactly does it concretely mean to fight if someone "strongly challenges" your intellect, ambition, perseverance, and self-assurance? What constitutes a strong challenge in these categories and what sort of responses would constitute fighting for it?
/r/seduction07/02/16 01:07 AM

I get what you mean (though "physical fight" does equal "violence"). And it's definitely good to know how to argue rationally to engage well in verbal confrontation. But my point is, regardless of the situation, once you get involved physically, you run the risk of screwing yourself up potentially permanently, especially if the opponent uses a knife or gun on you. In other words, when it escalates to physical fight, it becomes less about courage and more about who's got lesser to lose.

But here's the thing though: when you respond violently too, the opponent could pull out a knife or gun and he'd be far less hesitant and more merciless in using it now that you got involved. Another scenario could be that you fuck up a certain body part and that could mess up your future dreams (e.g. athlete, surgeon, scientist, etc.). And there's the worst-case scenario of death. These are low probabilities but nonzero probabilities. Also, you could argue most things involve risk, but then you…

There's a difference between doing it out of poking fun and it being central to your character. If anything the contrast to your regular character would make it even funnier. Also, being a rationalist is good and all, but seduction (and with most things in life in general) at its core transcends the rational and the real; so by adhering exclusively to rationalism, you kind of shoot yourself in the foot. Tl;dr: Dress better. Urm...isn't that obvious? I see very little point to this post. Also, the "instant confidence" it refers to is badly misleading - getting some fancier clothes will obviously give you more confidence instantly. But once you and everyone around you gets used to your dressing style, that confidence fades. To actually have confidence, you gotta work on yourself inside-out, and genuine confidence is independent of your clothing choice.

For one, women don't actually like being stopped from their routines - think about it, you are running late for a meeting or shift or class and some random guy stops you, tries to make up some conversation, and then asks for her number. I'm a guy, but I'd find that a bit annoying and creepy. She doesn't seem very interested; I emphasize "very" because to decide if you want to put further time and effort in her, you have to see if she's highly receptive. If she's not, then it's time to move on. I assign priority based on how they benefit me not their character "being a good person". Lol, from an entirely practical standpoint, by doing that you essentially shoot yourself in the foot. What person who is more successful than you, more intelligent, more socially connected, or more enjoyable to befriend would want to try to "benefit you"? And you are the average of the 5 people you hang out with the most.

So why not do this: 1. cold approach; 2. small first date in a coffee or ice cream shop where you pay (shouldn't be much more than 10 bucks); 3. if you like each other enough, go for a more formal date (here each pays his or her share). Even if you live in overpopulated conditions, the best way to reduce overpopulation and high population density is through education of the people who are having too many kids to have fewer kids in the first place. Convincing people who consistently have 8 kids (usually those in absolute poverty and poor living standards) to have fewer kids is going to have a much bigger impact on overpopulation; of course, this must happen alongside improving their living standards.

Huh? MGTOW is a Western movement (even though the idea may be as old as mankind), where almost everyone's basic needs are generally met and population density isn't one of the major concerns; so I highly doubt it was a direct response to population density. A Malthusian catastrophe (sudden population decline) is very much possible, but to avoid it we have to educate the women of developing countries to have fewer kids, which has to happen hand-in-hand with the improvement of their living standar…

Sure I can't do anything about mankind 50, 100, 1000 years from now and maybe it won't even last that long; but in case it does, I can influence posterity through continuing my ge…

But the latter aspect sounds kinda sexist, no? I'll definitely mark it to potentially use when I decide to have a relationship. Thanks for the summary.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions. My goal is to focus on a few best self-help books in the areas I want to work more on. Hence, I'm working on How to Win Friends, 7 Habits, Models (as per suggestions on this thread), and maybe later go through Talent Code. Just curious, what's the Way of Superior Man about? Should I consider including it to my list?

Thanks for the insight! I'll stick with Models then; and I agree, I looked into The Game and it was mostly filled with the experiences of the author and the people he interacted with - very little genuine advice (in fact, encouraged the use of artificial premade openers and pickup lines, which I'm not a fan of) mixed in tons of unnecessary details of personal experiences.

Lol! I agree with you, but doesn't hurt to learn a bit from others with experience.

I agree with you. You made an interesting point that "Nature won't let us get away from that...". Can you elaborate a bit?

Your comment makes little sense in the context of our debate, which is about evolutionary drive vs. human faculties. Clarify. Also, what the hell's too deep about this? All I said is your submission to your evolutionary drive is really no different from that of a pack of rats or goats or monkeys. time_and_again aims to rise above this mindless, beastly drive through his human faculties (reason, morality, free will). In other words, you are just another rat/goat/monkey blabbing about submitting t…

Of course you should acknowledge it; heck, we should all be aware of all of our innate biological instincts so that we can rationally control or channel them. But your point above was less about acknowledging it and more about living within that evolutionary drive, which is really no different from other beasts. It's far more rational to direct your own life according to your free will (i.e. what time_and_again is doing).

As for your point pertaining to evolutionary drives, I don't think the above commenter is vague at all. You're right that we have an innate "evolutionary drive" to be respected by women and colleagues; and this same sort of drive we share with all other species in the animal kingdom. But guess what? Humans are uniquely gifted with a sort of brain that can go way beyond this instinctual level of motivation. This means we can direct our actions more by our reason, morals, and free will than by som…

Am I the only one who hates these fucking norms? Sure one should avoid being unpleasant in terms of personality and demeanor (i.e. not have bad odor, not break the basic taboos, etc.). But practicing smiles and wearing "nice" clothes and grooming beards/hair according to girls' opinions? Wouldn't you rather want to be appreciated for your ideas, personality, and habits? Fuck the people who aren't mature enough to look past a facade.

(Tangential point) While the psychology of group interactions is fascinating to learn about, I can't help but despise some of these norms. I could seriously care less about "core members" or "alpha males"; I mean I would willingly confine my free will to formal norms like laws laid out by gov't or whatever institutions I am studying/employed in, but these core members and in-groups? Also, while norms maintain some degree of social order, they still kill creativity and individuality for want of b…

While I am not someone who has reached this stage, I completely agree with your point on doing what you love. So would you say asking advice on here, reading/learning about game and relationships, etc. is all secondary to your own true desires?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
