I just have to say how glad I am that I have relative phimosis. (my foreskin will retract when I'm flaccid but only very painfully when I have an erection). Fortunately, condoms solve the problem. I literally cannot have sex without one on. There are stretching techniques, etc that will fix it, but I have decided to leave it untreated so that I always have an excuse to wear one.

Yes - most men know not to rape, presumably because they learned not to. The ones that rape in anything but the college-honour-court sense of the word are the ones who obviously cannot learn. In fact, the part of the population that will not rape even given a chance to get away with it probably was never taught by anyone not to rape. Because it's wrong.

Keep in mind that being anally penetrated is very different than being vaginally penetrated. Not that it is wrong to do so, but anuses are not designed for sex. They are much more fragile and they don't loosen up to accept penetration as easily as a vagina does. And of course they are not self lubricating. Anal penetration of either sex is not comparable to vaginal sex at all except in the loosest sense. Also there is no reason why thinking about sex as envelopment rather than penetration is inv…

Actually that is based on couples who used a condom only for a whole year. With perfect use 100% of the time. Meaning no not using it, no improper storage, no putting it on badly. With a woman you can trust to actually take the pill, condoms plus the pill are safe enough that you have very good chances of getting to the age where you actually want kids, having them, and getting a vasectomy.

Well, maybe because they give up future income too - their career gets put on standstill. If I entered the workforce 5 years later then I would be 5 years behind everyone else in payscale for the rest of my career. It's not just the lost income for 5 years.

Well, the thing that really gets me is that this product sells at all without making it blindingly obvious that it comes from a tissue culture, not from thousands of babies. Even if it had to be infant foreskin to work (it doesn't, but foreskin is better than regular skin and infant cultures are the best because the cell lines will last longer before dying, they have to make the cells reproduce much faster than normal to get a good yield), there are scenarios where part of the foreskin needs to …

The wrinkle cream is actually made from a lab culture of human foreskin. Although the original donor(s) foreskin was from a complete infant circumcision there is no technical reason why it couldn't of been made from a non-destructive foreskin sample from a consenting adult. Or maybe if it has to be infant cells from a non-destructive or medically necessary infant circumcision. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. The disgusting thing is that the advertisements for this product don't make it clear t…

I agree that she could have done better. But regardless, she went to the police repeatedly about her husband's death threats and they did nothing. If she believed her husbands threats (he would kill her and her daughter if she left), then maybe a hotline or a DV shelter would not provide sufficient protection if the police did nothing to protect her as well.

Well, in America and Canada that has been the case since the Vietnam war and WW1, respectively. All-volunteer armies are a historical anomaly, however. Ironically, one consequence of killing a large proportion of most of the men in a generation is that the status of women plummets. In post-WW2 Russia, men were pretty scarce, and due to government policies calculated to create population growth, there was no consequences associated with getting a woman pregnant, or leaving your wife and kids for …

It's more of an issue of lost potential. I agree that once someone is dead they won't suffer anymore, but they still lost the opportunity to have a life after the fighting is over.

It is a fact... prostate cancer is so far down the list of men's issues that sometimes I think this whole Movember thing is some kind of deflection from the real issues.

It's completely missing the point, which is pretty funny because she's obviously smart enough to get 100%, so it's probably my favourite one. It shows how warped her world view is - she can't imagine that maybe they are surprised because getting 100% on a test in university is quite an accomplishment for anyone.

Not to mention the inevitable consequences once the first cohort of Title-IX STEM graduates starts looking for work. If the number of female engineering students, say, doubles in the first Title-IX cohort, then the graduating class (based on 10% females before), will be around 40% of the normal size. The female component of the class will likely be of the same quality as a typical pre-Title-IX class, and will probably do fine getting jobs, but because the male component will be the top 20%, they…

But it makes sense.

I agree with you that it's a low-priority mens-rights issue but an issue nonetheless. I think the general attitude towards masturbation in men is much more positive than it was historically, right now I would say that (in general) the attitude is that it is normal to masturbate as a substitute for sex with a women, and that buying a toy to make the act more pleasurable is a sign that you are giving up on finding a woman to have sex with. I can't really comment because I am not a woman, and of co…

Some women can orgasm from penetration alone with no clitoral stimulation during or even before penetration. However, I don't think there's currently an explanation for why there is a difference. Orgasm is a more complicated phenomenon in women because it plays a role in her chances of getting pregnant from a sexual encounter. Orgasm (especially close to her partner's orgasm) causes the cervix to admit more semen into the uterus. A woman's feelings towards her partner can affect orgasm - togethe…

Yes, exactly. But this isn't really a modern phenomenon, even though of course physical violence has always been and always will be an option for removing someone you don't like, only the people in power get to do that without consequences.

I am not against gun ownership and think it should be relatively easy to obtain a weapon, even types of weapons that are only really useful for shooting people like pistols - even though accidents are more likely than successful incidents of self-defence, I think people have a right to make such an important decision without the government's help. But I don't think that gun ownership should be a free for all and I think that the issue is not what kind of guns people have but who owns them. I don…

I am not saying that his motives weren't anti-feminist. But the point was, it's crazy. The problem with a lot of talk about the Ecole Polytechnique shooting is that people consider it to be kind of the ultimate form of anti-feminism, killing women just for being women, when in reality it was anti-feminism combined with mental illness combined with failed social systems and failed gun control systems that led to the shooting. I agree with Lepine that the government's implication that women also f…
/r/MensRights08/12/12 02:30 AM

The real story here is not violence against women or violence against feminists. Most of the people who do things like this are mentally ill. If Marc had gotten more help, or had even been restricted from owning a weapon, then this likely would have been prevented. To some extent Marc Lepine was kind of a straw MRA - his reasons for disliking feminism are vague, irrational and of course his response to these real or imagined injustices was incredibly out of proportion. Even though these highly-p…

My sister totalled two cars (hers and the guy she hit) because she made a left turn into oncoming traffic and still pays less insurance than me. I have a six-year clean driving record. Even though she wrecked $50,000 worth of car in three years of driving, she's still considered less of a risk than I am.

I don't know exactly what it is, it looks too big and chunky to be a wedding ring. One possibility is that it is some sort of badge - many military units have small badges that are affixed to the dress uniform's hat to denote rank or distinction.

It is a huge part of the issue. It is great that we have movember but the reality is that breast cancer is much more destructive than prostate cancer because it strikes so much younger.
/r/MensRights09/11/12 11:03 PM

Yes. It is good to look at this realistically. Prostate cancer is bad, but it is really a very small part of the problems facing men. Breast cancer is objectively worse and deserves more attention than prostate cancer. Movember really should be about suicide or heart disease.

I think that there's a time and a place for treating everyone with respect or at least not drawing attention to minority individuals. A gaming tournament where lots of people are watching but not participating is not an appropriate place for someone to use gendered derogatory language. Calling someone a bitch or a cunt or a slut is one thing if it's just you, the other players and her. It's still shitty behaviour and I think it would be better if people stuck to non-gendered insults, but it is s…

I think intoxicated rape is a really tricky issue. There are a lot of different stories about what happens, and all of them are true - it runs the gamut from a man who took advantage of someone who was too drunk to resist to the classic story of consensual sex between two drunk people where she accuses him of rape to save face later. So the problem of intoxicated consent is really a tough one because there are scenarios where one party is guilty of something. A big part of the problem is the exp…

Because contrary to popular belief, gay men are a) not attracted to every man they see, just like straight men are not attracted to any woman they see, and b) gay men are aware that straight men, especially those who they share a locker room with, might not be interested and might keep their sexuality and their desires quiet.

I think that if there was a pill for males that was as effective as the female pill and as available, it would be pretty good. It would be a way of reversibly and privately changing your reproductive state, which is something women have been able to do for decades.

I don't like the knowledge that if I take up any "female" hobbies that I'll be judged by people of both genders and probably find it hard to find people to share the hobby with. However, I think groups of people should have the right to be single-gender groups. I mean both genders, of course. So I guess if I decided to take up crochet or some other stereotypically female hobby and some crochet circle didn't want to let me participate, I would not be particularly bothered, they have a right to a …

A neckbeard only really matters if you have a controlled-length beard. If you have a really huge beard, as if you have never shaved in your life, then it looks fine. Men with short beards who do not keep the part on their upper neck and the underside of their chin shaved are "neckbeards". It's a term that implies lazy grooming.

It's not really that unreasonable to believe that someone you just met is lying to you, regardless of genders... either way, there is no legitimate argument against condom use in casual sex...
/r/MensRights29/03/12 01:46 AM

Anything that reduces condom use will increase STI transmission. However, in casual sex world, the woman will not believe a man who says he is on birth control so condoms will likely get used anyway.
