"Honorable" is less a matter of personal honor and more a matter of not being a fuckup and/or breaking the law. Honorable discharge is more a matter of having met your obligations to the military when you sign up; and nowhere in anything you sign does it say you have to have an abortion or give up your child for adoption because of your military obligation, so the military kind of has its hands tied in that sense. But in recent years there has been a rush for many people to apply for these special Chapter 8 discharges, so the application/acceptance process has gotten longer and more difficult; nowadays you're more likely to be reassigned to desk duty or put on maternity leave rather than actually given a full discharge from the military; you have to go through official channels, talk to your commanding officers, probably see a shrink to make sure you're not just lying your ass off/trying to weasel your way out of your obligations, etc. Not fun, but then--that's the military; if you were looking for fun, you should have become a firefighter. They get to run up stairs a lot and ride in a big red truck.
