What? That's not at all what I'm saying.

I really don't disagree that this re-framing could be problematic. But all the author is saying is that some aspects of prison rape have elements of misogyny. I don't think she is trying to argue that all male victims of sexual assault in prison feel "feminized" by the experience. In fact, I truthfully understood the point of the article to be roughly the same idea as your last paragraph there.

I really don't disagree with the majority of what you're saying here. But I also don't see where the quote you posted made the arguments you're responding to. People respond to sexual assault in a myriad of ways, based on their personal experiences and identity. I thought the author was arguing that our definition of rape/sexual assault needs to be broader, which would potentially deconstruct the the same re-framing you were describing.

That is, I think you are correct to say that "When a man is raped in prison by another man, it's not because of fucking misogyny!" but I don't think that's quite what the article is arguing. The author just says that misogyny plays into the hierarchy of power that sexual assault in prisons establishes/enforces. That is, "bitch" is a word used to refer to women (literally meaning female in some contexts), so if a male prisoner …

I agree with others that you need to protect yourself, but if you are going to stay with her, you have to be supportive, not condescending. It sounds like you understand that she has a problem and you want to help her with it. Don't let your anger with her get in the way of that. You have every right to feel betrayed, but remember the reason she lied in the first place is because she was afraid she would not have your support. If you want to salvage this relationship at all, you have to prove he…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
