The purpose of child support is to make sure that the child is well taken care of at both houses. It's not concerned with what is fair for the parents but the well being of the child

I would never suggest going pro se. There are other ways you can save money other than going pro se. In my experience, judges are humans too and tend to think that if you go pro se and can't get along with your lawyer then you can't get along with other people either. Discuss with your lawyer that you are running low on money and see if you guys can come up with a plan for the lawyer to stay in the case. One way is to limit your phone calls and emails with your lawyer. Those add up very quickly.
