I think you might have bolded the wrong part. The part I found most troubling was this: She attributed the trend in part to the strong mentorship of female faculty. This looks to me as an admission that the faculty in her English department are selectively mentoring female students to the exclusion of male students. If that is the case, it is a case of actual discrimination against men in the English department of that school.

If the form was purely for statistical purposes and you could not accuse people through it (who would then be ordered to the Dean's Office and warned as a rapist), I'd support the form. I wouldn't depending on what the statistics are used for. Statistics based on anonymous self-reports are pretty worthless and will likely only serve to mislead. Edit: I would only support such a form if the administration is VERY transparent about what the data is used for.

This thread is kind of weird. It has been upvoted, but nearly all of the upvoted comments are against it. So I think either AMR is brigading this thread. (Unlikely in this case, I think. It's not just for women who are uncomfortable around men. I'd reckon that they are a minority of the students who take that class. It is probably more for women who come from cultures where it is inappropriate for a woman to be around men without her husband present. Actually, this is a good way to promote equal pay for women. It is actually going to the source of the problem rather than creating laws to fight nonexistent discrimination. It does annoy me that people only see helping men as a good thing when it helps women, though. This also kind of pissed me off: Helen Conway called for a change to the culture of men using work as an excuse not to help look after children and ageing parents. I don't think the MRM excludes trans people, and obviously men's rights issues affect trans people (they affect women too). It just doesn't focus on problems specific to trans people. One also doesn't have to be interested in or in favor of trans rights to be an MRA, as far as I can tell. MRAs did do something like this with the whole radfem hub/agent orange thing, which was a lot worse because the radfems' private information was released. There was quite an outrage from the SRS camp about that, and of course a lot of accusations of being creepy, threatening, stalkers. Well, if we're going to be anecdotal about it, that is not what I've experienced at all. Many couples I have known who have done it made the choice together. Usually based on whether or not the father has been circumcised. Most others seem to do it just because they think it's supposed to be done.
