I'll check it out... definitely a princess, though. I think she was daddy's little girl, growing up. Never had to own up to anything... take responsibility for anything. She's always been bailed out of everything, and it is always someone else's fault... My oldest step daughter is just like her. She is constantly posting pictures of herself anytime she is somewhere, as if to show her friends on whatever social media site, that she has so much going on... If she sits still for too long, a post wi…

Thanks for responding. I really do appreciate it. As for why do I care? Maybe I should be analyzing that more... I think, on one side, I used to worry that my little one would see all this fun traveling and all these fun activities and I would "lose her", so to speak. But, I have, since, come to realize that it isn't so much what we do together, but, more about the experience itself. Its just hard to compete with "vacation mom" sometimes... imagine mom throwing money down hand over fist... lavis…

Great Question. Let me start by saying, sorry for the long response to your post, but, I have been struggling with this one myself. My situation is a little bit complicated in that, I am a step father of two teenage girls and my wife and I have 5 year old, together. I met my step daughters when they were 9 and 11, and, although things started out good early on, I have come to realize that they have never been disciplined for anything. I think my wife was the same way and she is the kind of paren…

Thanks for responding. Very good stuff. This is some pretty tough stuff. A lot of grey area... at least, it seems like it. Here is a quick example of the grey area... we stayed down at the beach this weekend... at some point, over the weekend, wife took the tablet we use for the little one to watch cartoons on, and, unbeknownst to me, put it in a drawer in the hotel because we were going to be away from the room... When we were packing up to leave, I asked her a few times if she had stashed anyt…

I worship you. This is the shit I needed to hear, right here. Thanks for taking the time to write it. Not that you care, but, it wasn't wasted time... this is exactly what I needed!

Good stuff... thank you for responding. I think one of the biggest things I am getting from all of this is the "captain" piece.... I read some of the books from the side bar... I get the captain and first officer thing. I have started to incorporate it into my life... But, one thing I am struggling with, on that front... my wife constantly questions my decisions... on everything. She seems conditioned to always counter with an alternative... she will overcomplicate things... I spent a good porti…

That may be the case now... and, maybe I haven't been fair, lately, to her. But, if you see my long winded response to RPAlternate42, there is a lot more to it than I laid out in my original post. In the past, it wasn't just wanting to know in advance so she can make adequate plans comfortably... It was more like your last sentence "to control or oppress". I agree with what most of you guys are saying though... there is nothing wrong with "telling" her my plans...

On #1, Yes... I do have an erratic work schedule... Unfortunately, not much I can do about it, it is the nature of my current position and what I do. But, I agree with some of the other comments that instead of asking, I should be telling her what I am doing. As for me "deserving" shit tests on erratic schedule.. I would agree with that as well, EXCEPT, my wife is the type that always has to have something going on... she, often times, over extends the family... she schedules things back to back…

Thanks for responding. Yeah... It does piss me off. But, once I realized that losing my shit over the stuff that she was doing was about 80% of the problem, I decided, first, not to lose my shit over this stuff anymore, and, second, to stop trying to fix it myself. But, the problem is still there... I see it all the time. Its in my face...

But, what about when the wife is not doing HER part in housework? My wife and I both work full time. Our house is constantly a complete wreck. Up until about a year ago, when I discovered TRP, I did what I could to try to keep the place up so it would not make me crazy (I am somewhat ADD and walking into the house and seeing the table completely covered with shit used to stress me out). Now, my wife spends most of her time going to my two step-daughter's dance and soccer events and on the "off" …

I see this every day... I have 3 daugthers. 2 of them are not mine. I have been butting heads with my step daughters up until a year or so ago (when I discovered RP). One thing I could not figure out is ... they absolutely adore their father... and, ever since I knew them, I was bending over backwards for them and their mother. And my relationship with them has always been strained. Now I know why... And, my little one... I see it too, in her. She is only 4 and a half... sometimes if I cater too…

interesting responses on here. Here is my experience with this, for what it is worth. I am new to the red pill... and, before discovering it, after several different marriage counselors with no success, my wife said she wanted a pug... out of nowhere... just decided she wanted one. At the time, I didn't know what else to do... marriage was horrible... I figured it would make her happy... I did it... knowing it wasn't the right decision because she has no idea how to take care of animals... I kno…

I have to jump in here and ask if there is anyone that is trying to do this with step children? I have two step daughters that are in their teens and I've been married for 5 years. I have only just begun the red pill journey and, it has had great impact, so far, with my relationship with my wife. But, one thing that happened a while back that had more to do with my wife than my step daughters was, I stopped disciplining\correcting them. My wife would come to their rescue and it became me against…

You are definitely NOT the only person in this kind of situation. I am going through it right now. For me, this is my first marriage, her second. I see a lot of things I could have done differently over the past 5 years. I only recently woke up to TRP and it has completely turned my life upside down... but, that's a good thing. It was already the wrong side down... Read the books and heed the advice (not all of it, but most), that you get from this subreddit and others like it (check out married…

Want to know the funny thing about all this? I married late in life.. I was bachelor until I was almost 40. I spent several years in Spain, and several years living down in Florida, on the panhandle. I have some of the craziest stories from my single days that sometimes, when I repeat them, I cannot believe I lived that sh*t. But, at some point, I got it stuck in my head that I needed to have a child, to carry on my legacy... and my wife happened to be in the right place, at the right time, and …

Yes to debt, no to bouncing checks... yet. As for when she gets depressed... it isn't so much about not being able to afford stuff... She will borrow money just to do what she wants to do.. It is when she doesn't get her way because it is beyond her control... that is when she gets depressed. What do I do? Nothing... now. Pre-RP, I would see her pouting and I would ask her what was wrong, or, I would sit down to talk about it... But, these days... I don't do anything. I ignore it. Then her depre…

Thanks for responding. Especially for posting a response and then digging in deeper... shows you put some thought into it. Much appreciated. Great advice... and, although a little hard to hear, the masculinity piece you mention, may be key... It's a challenge, in a house full of women... but, you chose the best word for where I need to be... "stoic". Thanks again.

Thanks for reading it, despite it being pretty long. And, thanks for responding. No... not in a separation process, per se. When things took a turn for the worst for us (4th failed marriage counselor), I took the first step and decided to separate out my finances from hers. This was due to many factors... including, but, not limited to her spending habits. I am fully aware that debt incurred by her is also my responsibility... which is another reason why I am posting this question here? I don't …

Did you, at any point while you were still with your daughter's mother, wonder if YOU were the one who was BPD? I spent some time looking into BPD... I was convinced that my wife had it... but, after so much of the sh*t and no solutions, I started to think "what if I am the one who is crazy?" I still slip into that sometimes... when it gets too much... but, when I go back and read some of the stuff that I have tried to document during this whole mess, it brings me back to... this woman is a loon…

The counselor just repeated herself... "why would she make up something like that?" I just shut my mouth after that.

Just to clarify... The reason for thermonuclear dread is the realization I came to that what was keeping me in the marriage was a fear of losing my daughter. Now, I am not talking about completely losing her... but, the thought of losing half of her time, OR MORE. The thought of being on the receiving end of what I see my wife's ex husband having to go through and then, constantly wondering if, the days that I would get to spend with my daughter (IF my wife and I were to separate/divorce), if sh…

Well, there is definitely a lot more information about the situation. But, I try to not go too much into detail because this would very much become a novel. As for the marriage counseling... I had high hopes for this last guy... he came highly recommended. Things seemed to start out ok and then, in a session alone with him, he wanted me to go back to some personal counseling. I told him that I would, but that I wasn't happy about it. He kept saying we have to work on this whole thing of me seein…

I don't think that, even if I lit the way out with torches and cleared a path, she would be able to find it. I am, unfortunately, dead serious about this. I have been going through this for years... She is the type that absolutely must have the last word. Her pride will not let her let go of this... She will hamster away at this until she has somehow figured out a way to break me down. At one of our marriage counseling sessions, after I had spent the previous 2 or 3 sessions, defending myself ag…

Thanks for the encouragement. Not going to lie... it has not been easy. She is manipulative as hell and if I wasn't playing this hard of a hand, she wouldn't be making such an effort!

Thanks for the response. Yeah... the little bit I have posted in my original post and my follow up really doesn't come close to the beating I have taken over the years with my wife. I admit, in hindsight, a lot of this could have been "nipped in the butt" pretty quickly, if I had known about TRP and how my beta behavior was fueling it. But, it is amazing how someone could be so manipulating and I got caught up in... I even thought, at one time, that I had had some brain damage or something becau…

am loving your response... but, when you say "you kicked the beehive in your bee-proof suit, this is to be expected"... are you saying it like it is a bad thing? Like she was expecting me to do that, and I would be better off not doing that? as for telling her her behavior is childish, I started to use that one after reading up on TRP and seeing some of the responses to other posts... It definitely gets her wound up... that's for damn sure... But, today, when I said it, when she kept saying dema…

They love their dad. I had a heart to heart with my youngest step-daughter one evening and she said her dad was a big teddy bear. They respect him. I think he is a lot different than I am... he is pretty laid back... I cant see my oldest step daughter mouthing off to him the way she does to me, but, I think, too, that he handled that kind of stuff differently than I do... If she mouths off to me, I say, "you know who bought you that phone and pays your bill? You want to keep it, right? Then, cha…

I tried a simple "no". She doesn't let it go... This morning, when I left the house, she followed me out yelling my name saying we needed to make a decision... I got in the car and left to get my head straight (told her I was going somewhere to study)... then, the texts about needing to talk and the conversation in the car ... how does one "ignore" it? Maybe I need to read up some more on TRP... it sounds like I didn't handle the situation right when I answered her question about the bank accoun…

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I cant thank you enough... One thing to note, about all of this, is the fear that, if we separate, my wife will do to me, what I have witnessed her do to her ex, time and time again, with my step daughters. She trashes him, constantly... over the last couple of months she laid off of doing it, but, only because I called her out on it at the marriage counselor and said I didn't think that was appropriate.... I know she'll do it to me too... and, my fear i…

I think that one thing that has helped me maintain frame (so far, although, I am still new at this), is that little bit you put in there about "her age also means when she looks in the mirror, reality is kicking her ass". A buddy of mine at work who has watched me go through a lot of this shit over the last year, said it to me like this ... "dude... she's been married twice, she's squeezed out 3 kids, and she's in her mid 40's... that's not going to work too good in her favor."

Sex life has been horrible. Maybe once a month... if that. She makes a little more than I do... but, we both make good money... my job is a lot more stable than hers is, though.

Let me first say, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!! everyone who has responded so far has just been awesome... what I needed... so, for that, thank you. One thing has changed since I posted this... wife texted me while I was away from the house... said "we needed to talk". I took my time responding... she asked to meet me somewhere away from the house... She started with what I am pretty sure was a shit test... she said we need to decide, together, what we are doing next... and then she said IF we stay together…
