Don’t know why people are downvoting. Seems like a very adult thing to do.

Smart. I’ve been married twice and I want to say “never again” but I do believe in the idea of marriage…just need years of dating/cohabitating before I’d ever go that route again.

I’m in MD too. Been reading up a lot about the mutual consent divorce, but haven’t taken the plunge to speak to an attorney yet. It’s interesting that they won’t begin the process until you move out though. What I’ve found through research and this sub (thank God for some of the advice here), is that IF you do move out before the divorce is final, get your custody agreement in writing and agreed to by the stbx. There’s a form on the MD AG site that is fairly generic to address this, but a comple…

Check out San Diego. Literally perfect weather. Yeah, California politics and all that, but it’s beautiful. Gorgeous women, perfect weather, great outdoor activities… Bonus is the Navy base right there for healthcare as a retired military dude. Also, CBP is always hiring in the San Diego sector—weather you apply for the Border Patrol or Office of Field Operations (evolution of Customs), a federal paycheck on top of mil retirement is aces.

I want to downvote your answer based solely on the fact that a lot of women are “blameless” and only their husband’s faults. Such bullshit.

This is where my wife is. I am no saint, that’s for sure, but literally everything is “your fault” “you’re doing this to us” “you did/didn’t do this” “you’re yelling at me”(while yelling at ME). I know I react poorly a lot of times, but the fact of the matter is that I’m reacting to things she says/does.

I didn’t even think about the asshole parent aspect of it. Yeah, strippers with low self-esteem it is!

I’ve dated both types, seriously (I mean SERIOUSLY!) contemplating getting a divorce from my wife. She’s a federal judge. Very career driven. She was “just” a lawyer when we started dating, then advanced up the ladder to her current position. It’s partially her, partially her career and the shit she sees on a daily basis, but she’s become a truly bitter and nasty person with zero sense of humor. While I will never get married again, I would definitely say a SAHM person would be better, but, best…

Like I said, I was 30 seconds into it; now through the foreword, so I’ll let you know.

You sound almost exactly like me, although I’m pretty sure we’ve both checked out at this point; stating together for the kids, which I’m learning mire and more as we fight is terrible for them. I want them to have a stable, loving home, and I try, Lord do I try, to keep them out of it, but their mother seems intent to drag them into everything. The dating, or not, will come. My advice for you is to rediscover you. Who are you, with a few more years of experience under your belt? I just recently…

Fuck. That’s horrible. Only positive spin I could possibly hope to put on it is that if you’d been married a few years, it could have been much more? Fuck our legal system.

You’ll get through it, brother. Use the power of AND to your advantage. You can hate her for all those stolen moments AND you can love her as someone who used to fill your heart with joy. The only advice I can offer is be the best dad to your girls that you can be. Everything else is just trial by error.

Just the couch, but I’m already planning, saving cash. The boy will be done with middle school this year, so could move out after that.

Right? WTF is that shit? I get told basically a version of this almost daily. When I push back on obvious bullshit, even in as nice a way as possible, I’m an “emotionally abusive” asshole. Meanwhile, I feel like I cave or just go with it most of the time for the sake of not arguing.

If you guys have kids together, download all those pics, hell, download them all anyways, then untag/delete whatever. The past decade-plus with her was still your life, your memories, your experiences. All those things contribute to who you are today. You may never look at them again, or when you’re 70, you may want to see pics from the time you went to wherever. Which reminds me: time to start downloading….

Well, shit, OP. Everything you just said is how my wife is currently. Every single opportunity she can, she tries to belittle me or say I’m doing things wrong. I’ve put up with it for a while, but a few months ago, I’d finally had it. Now, every time she tries this shit I either stop her or simply walk away. Our “relationship” has never been worse…because she’s learning that I’m over putting up with her bullshit. I’ve ran the numbers, I’ll be fine and can get a large enough house for each of the…

They do, but a few years ago MD passed a no-contest divorce which basically allows you to skip the separation period as long as there wasn’t abuse or adultery and both parties agree to it. I doubt she’s gonna sign off on a no-contest though. Her salary is higher than mine, but overall I make more than her when you include my military retirement and VA benefits. She isn’t going to want to have to budget and limit her spending since it’s basically wide open for her right now.

I’m working a plan. We’re in Maryland right now, so O figure I need $10k in savings to cover 1st & last month rent. I’m over the bullshit. 1/3 of the way there.

Thanks for sharing your situation. I’m on hypertension and ulcer meds, despite running 10-12 miles a week and eating pretty healthy. I know it’s a direct result of the anxiety I feel around her.
