You say there are “so many opportunities” yet we’ve been in a pandemic for a year. I’ve seen no other choice:( and my previous relationships were from: a) a job b) school or c) a friend group. I now work with the same 3 people, no school, and my ex is in my friend group. Honestly, what the he*l am I supposed to do lol.

Networking, volunteering, restaurants and stores were unfortunately obsolete for the past year. We had no other choice :( but this gives me hope. Being on OLD the past year has made me feel like a cute raccoon constantly rummaging through the trash bin.

Wow. That’s a crazy story, And I can relate. Mine was a gamer too and of course this girl is also a gamer so she was always seen as the “cool girl” who had “tons” In common with. Everyone is betting they’ll realize they make better friends because they just don’t seem like a couple but who knows. Once that thrill wore off he’ll realize she brings the exact same difficulties that everyone relationship has as I did. I also feel like I left behind some toxic things. The friend group was so big that…

Thank you. I know dating isn’t smart right now but it boils my blood that he has gets what he wants and is now sailing off into the sunset while I’m alone, hurt, and unable to replace him easily because my standards are now through the roof which sorta just makes dating harder haha.

On a serious note, what happened to his chin? I absolutely loved chandler (I know I know it’s a character) and am sad to see Matthew Perry like this if it’s actually to do with alcohol or substance abuse. But seriously how does a chin completely change form?!

I’m so sorry. You seem like a good daughter and im Sure she is grateful for that. Good job on helping her realize she needs to move into her own place. Sometimes, all we can do is start again. And damn. Make sure you marry the right person, or at least try your hardest. Support and hugs

Yeah, those are all fairly normal in American dating culture. Makes me want to move to where you live lol. Dating can be confusing, exhausting, often feeling like a game that drags on forever until you finally get lucky. But, regardless of culture, as someone already pointed out, you expressed your needs and boundaries and it didn’t make a difference. He still waited days before communicating and he still uses his dating apps. I would next him.

Those are pretty basic desires! And not all women actually want them, so many do settle. But you don’t have to. I’ve also found those things hard to find, but I see that most of my friends have them, males that are in my family are like that, etc. So they ARE out there! Stay picky.

Good! It clearly made you uncomfortable and someone who genuinely values and respects you will do everything they can to make sure you feel comfortable.

If you are interested in an actual relationship pick an app where the guy can put “looking for...” sometimes they leave it blank, and in my experience those guys are fresh out of relationships and aren’t looking for one yet. Other things I’ve gathered over my time, lol: unable to carry the conversation/asking nothing about you. Lovebombing you very early on. Talking badly about their exes/women. Super aggressive sexual comments (just ew, that one should be obvious). Good luck! There is some dece…

What are you defining as attractive? Because if you are looking at men who look like they stepped out of a GQ magazine, then yes a lot of them are used to having things handed to them and won’t put in effort, even if they ARE in your “league”. But attractive men can come in different packages, you just have to decide what does it for you. Good hygiene? good humour? close with their family? contributes to the world in a meaningful way? etc etc those are all things that can set someone apart and l…

I seriously could have written this, it’s so true for me. For me I guess something no one else can provide besides a man is physical affection and intimacy, which I do want. However, that’s very easy to find on a temporary basis lol. For me to want someone to stick around at this point there also has to be an emotional connection, genuine mutual respect, and a friendship built on trust. It’s taken me 3 decades to define those things as necessary. If not, then being alone is much preferable 🤷🏻‍♀️…

Yuck, I dated a LVM unfortunately for a few weeks in November who talked every day about how he “wanted a dog”. And he refused to go on walks with me! He literally said NO to going on walks, he said his work involved him being on his feet too much. When I asked him how he would walk a dog he genuinely seemed confused. THIS IS WHATS OUT THERE, it’s disgusting. Oh and he rehomed two cats a year prior because they were “too much energy” and he couldn’t keep up with them. Ew ew ew.

It’s my bday on Valentine’s Day (30) , I spent so many years hoping a guy would get a clue and double pamper me, instead I always got the bare minimum lol. Such a rip off. Never again. I’m going to get a facial, a massage, and order from my favourite tapas and wine bar. If we are allowed to see friends (in alberta Canada, we cannot right now :( then my two girlfriends told me we will do a self love/boudoir photoshoot of me lol.

Yes that one is my biggest peeve of all. Like.. why did you match with me if you aren’t intrigued about my life and interested in getting to know me? I don’t even expect to be woo’d anymore, I’d just like someone who can hold a decent convo with me lol.

I live in a slightly redneck province (alberta) and half of the profile pics on dating apps are dudes holding fish or a hunted animal (I don’t swipe on them). I’m vegetarian and it actually does anger some people, I just immediately unmatch. They love to pretend they care by trying to mansplain nutrition to me. I’ve had HVM exes and they didn’t bat an eye on how I choose to eat.

Totally! I actually was seeing a scrote for a few weeks unfortunately in November, I mentioned FDS to him and he knew what it was and got really angry lol. It’s spreading like wildfire!

That's awesome. Out of curiosity how long have you been dating? Just want some hope that a HVM will act like this still after the initial honeymoon phase.

Amazing advice. Sad, because I think I'd have to give up a lot of my male friends if I started vetting them as ruthlessly as I'm vetting potentially partners now!

Another conspiracy. You're so right. Most older women I know have deep, deep female bonds and their husbands just kind of tag along and make small-talk with the other men. The conspiracy that it's bad for women to end up single in their older years was made, again, by men, to ensure that women will be frightened into contorting their physical and mental selves into their ideal version of a wife.

Wow I never even clued in to this until literally today. I remember watching so many sitcoms when I Was younger, with puffy middle-aged men with gorgeous younger wives. It was so normal, and the wives in the sitcoms catered endlessly, and when the husband acted up and the wife rollled her eyes, the laugh track in the background would roar. It was a conspiracy this whole time, so that men could tramp around in their 20s, and then expect an obediant younger trophy-wife by the time they start baldi…

They do this, and then they also beg for a "cool girl" who will play video games, watch action movies and sports, so that they can brag to their friends about her. But yeah, she also needs to be obsessed with cooking and makeup. She has to do and like everything basically.

Ooo this made my eyes water! It’s not only a reminder how simple it is to make someone feel valued. But it’s also a reminder that even without a King in our lives we can be surrounded by other royalty too. Why do we wait around to spoil the right man? Let’s spoil our moms, HVF besties, brothers etc.!

Hell. Yes. I’m 29 and just got out of a 5 year relationship a few months ago. At first I felt that desperate urge to just find someone, anyone to rebound with. And then it tapered off into a few optimistic outdoor coffee dates with very incredibly disappointing LVM’s. Now I feel utterly exhausted and disgusted by the thought of continuing to give more of myself to a world of men that is currently not open to receiving me the way I deserve to be received. Just made a new 5 year plan today actuall…

The pedestal thing is totally fair and good for you for recognizing it. Maybe he’ll pedestal you now, and resent you later. You want a guy to see the two of you on the same playing field. Even if he truly does just serve Mac and cheese - he should be damn proud and passionate about doing it lol. Or else trying hard to move himself to where else he wants to be.

I get it that he’s trying to compliment you, but it’s hilarious how “shocking” it is that a woman has an important and high level job.

I think you already know this but I’ll say it anyway; he’s not your “ideal type” so make sure you don’t pedestal ANYTHING about this man. Tons of other men with similar attributes wouldn’t dream of pulling this shit. Glad you’re out!

I ended 5 years with my partner 6 weeks ago, oddly enough for similar reasons. Let me tell you, I also am excited to go on nice dates with people who (hopefully) value me, appreciate my cute outfits, and pay for me! I honestly didn’t think I’d feel that excitement again, When your brain has been addicted to someone no one else even looks attractive for awhile. But they are. I also have wrote out a lot of lists, goals, and researched FDS a ton. It was almost like a necessary reset on life. And wi…

Please check my post history. A man can have many wonderful qualities, but the need for external female validation will hurt you in the end. Please, I’m in the middle of the heartache of selling our house after only two years and losing money. I was literally being driven insane because he couldn’t stop snapchatting a female friend constantly.

Thank you. It’s just so hard because literally “other than that” he was a really wonderful guy who went out of his way to not hurt me and to respect me. But I’ve had many HVF’s in my life (mother and friends) tell me that that one thing is a damn rulebreaker. If he wouldn’t stop now, who’s to say he won’t do it again. It bothered me so much I drove myself crazy which in turn pushed him farther away. I wish so so badly that i, like you, was the one to walk away. But owning the house felt like a c…

not always! I know it may be biased but my brother is a real estate agent and is one of the most HVM I've ever known, he gives me hope, I know that may sound weird, but it's true. He's an amazing human who has been in a beautiful long term relationship with a HVF for years.

Thank you thank you this is exactly what I think I was hoping someone would say haha. I’m 29 so yeah I do like the thought of a family but I’m also really thankful to not be having one right now with the wrong person, so I’m willing to wait. Also my cousin just had a baby at 36 alone using a sperm donor so. A lot of women in my family are HVF and never seemed to settle on a guy which I now can see is admirable.
