As has been said a few times already in this thread, the best thing to do is just dive in head-first, and start talking to girls whenever you can. If you just go for it and keep talking to girls, the fear/anxiety will subside as you become more comfortable. However, there are good and bad ways to go about this. Don't get drunk (at least not very) when you do it. You'll want to be sober-ish (having a SLIGHT buzz may be okay if you really need it to spur you on and help a bit) so that it's YOU tha…

Hey man, sorry that you got cheated on. Happened to me a few years ago as well. But this is a good subreddit than can help you pick up the pieces and grow a lot of confidence. And the best thing is you can do what you want with it. You don't have to be sleazy, slimy, or use it to bust up someone else's relationship. I never have. But I've learned a lot of skills that helped me out with some very high quality women (and just socially in general), and has helped me keep them interested in me so th…

I love this episode. The part where he's talking to her after the show is just gold, especially when his friend tells him he had a shot with her up until he took it too far.

If it wasn't, society would have never invented marriage (which used to be basically a death penalty). Sorry, could you elaborate on this? What do you mean it used to basically be a death penalty?

the other ones can be healed easily with antibiotics (Gonorrhea.... Gonorrhea is becoming more and more difficult to treat. Last I read, it's nearly completely resistant to antibiotics.

But i have friends who wont date latinas, or asians, or black girls, they just simply dont find them attractive. This is a good point - everyone has their preferences. But to brag about said preferences is venturing into the realm of cuntishness.

This is a very good perspective on the matter. I think it tends to boil down to whatever you feel fits best with your personality. And it's more than just what you're comfortable with - we all have to venture well outside of our comfort zones for any of this.

Also a good choice. I'm a huge fan of the show, and of Don. However, he can sometimes steer you a bit wrong, as he tends to wind up hating himself, drinking himself to oblivion, and uses his looks/power/money to guide him along more easily. Not everyone is as unbelievably gorgeous as Jon Hamm.

This is really good. Any sort of quick, lightly humourous ice-breaker is ideal.

Honestly, the Bond visualization is what worked best for me, and helped me the most, so I stuck with it (and still do). I can try to expand on it a bit, though. It helps to have seen multiple Sean Connery Bond films (my personal favorites of the entire series are Dr. No and From Russia With Love) so that this makes sense, but it doesn't get any more confident/smooth than him. Everything about Connery's whole demeanor just reeked of a relaxed, ingrained confidence. Nothing ever rattled him, but h…

Making up reasons, logical or not, not to approach, is essentially THE definition of approach anxiety. That little bit of hesitation can be enough to keep it from happening. First, approaching in the daytime can be easy(ier) in the right circumstances. I personally think approaching on the street can be a bit more difficult, just because there are fewer openings - you don't want to be creepy and run up behind someone as they're walking, so you have to look for better spots, such as a bench, bus …

I learned a neat little trick from some book I read... I honestly can't remember which. But say you set up a date with her, like for a Saturday evening or whenever. Have her come to your place FIRST to meet or to pick you up, whatever. Just be like "well i have ____ going on that day, so i'll be pressed for time; could you meet me at my place at seven and we'll go from there?" Then when she gets there, don't let her in or even invite her in. Leave immediately. Like she knocks on your door, and y…

Just an observation, but if you're bothered enough at the asking of a question to issue a reprimand, it would've taken far less effort for you to ignore said question than to post your response. Just saying.

As if you don't give a fuck. You're better off now, and he did you a favor. If you act angry, jealous or otherwise upset, that is decidedly not alpha. There's an episode of Mad Men where Don is at a restaurant and runs into his ex with her new husband. Like that. Gentlemenly, polite, but slightly curt and not overly nice.

I LOVE to rock a really well-fitting crew-cut, plain-colored t-shirt. I get mine from J Crew, and I swear to God it's like they snuck into my room at night and measured me before designing the shirts (I'm about 6'1", of lean to athletic type build). These work great on me. First, I'm more comfortable than in a button up or whatever, so I just feel better. Second, I've actually found that it helps me stand apart from other people a lot. Most ppl when they go out to bars/etc. have on button ups, o…

I agree with Penroze. I also think you should be a bit more direct when setting things up. Like when she explained (afterwards) about her student being late or whatever, you commented on how nice of a day it was then asked what she tutored. I think here you should've gone ahead with trying to set something up for another time instead of asking what she tutors. I say give it a couple days, if she doesn't reply, send her one that's direct like "hey meet me at x place on y day at z time if you're f…

Thanks for the tip, I'll check into it. Never tried any kind of meditation. I can't help but think that another antidote would be to just be more successful in all these areas (get more/better quality women, live in a better place, etc.), or if I'd just be left wanting more, still chasing that elusive happiness that everyone craves.

Have you thought about looking into or adjusting diet and exercise? Could be that unhealthy eating and lack of exercise contribute, though probably not the exclusive cause. Every little advantage to improve helps though, right?

My biggest fear is wasting my time and missed opportunities. I rarely ever know what I truly want in life, be it in careers, relationships/dating, where I want to live, etc. I never know if what I'm doing is the most fulfilling option for me, so I always wonder if or fear that I'm missing out on something better.

and that doesn't include things like being somewhat reclusive or non-sociable? like if we consider being sociable to be the social norm, is there any room for overlap of the two? just trying to make clear the distinction.

Just curious, but can you clear up asocial vs. antisocial?
