The only difference between having it genitally compared to orally is that you are less contagious and less likely to get another blister after the first infection. While an average of 80% for Americans (I assume you mean from birth until death, instead of the usual CDC 14-49 age range number) might be a bit on the high side, it's certainly not an unreasonable number for the lifetime risk of getting either HSV-1 or HSV-2. HSV-2 prevalence amongst 40 year old white men is 22% in America. Edit: that's unmarried men, overall for men in their 40's it's 16%. Source: I analyze CDC's NHANES Herpes lab results as a hobby. 60	Spun Plates. Got Herpes. Just to add to your HSV-2 stats, women are twice as likely to carry HSV-2 than men so the statistics are more like 1 in 5 for women and 1 in 8 for men. Also as it's a lifelong infection the 1 in 5 is reached around late 20's/early 30's, 1 in 4 by mid/late 30's and 1 in 3 for people in their 40's. 1	Don't forget that it's not a numbers game. It's about quality I've read about multiple strains and that people have been shown to carry and shed multiple strains. I haven't read anywhere (though I wouldn't be too surprised if it was true) about picking up additional strains after you got one of them. It could be that those with multiple strains picked them up all at once or got them in quick succession after getting infected the first time. 1	Do all RP men have herpes? Actually don't get tested, it's a burden to the medical system to test for something so insignificant that statistically speaking will be positive anyway. Besides if you have it there's nothing you can do about it. The above is not necessarily my view but I have skimmed through journals discussing how unnecessary herpes testing is putting a strain on certain medical systems. 1	STD's. Thoughts? Depends on multiple factors. Do you see her as a fling or something that could go further. Your age also plays a certain part, the older you get the more of your peers have herpes. By 20 it's estimated to be almost half, by 40 you're looking at 70-80% so you're more likely than not to get it at some time in your life.
