80% of people with herpes don't know it because they don't have symptoms or their symptoms are mistaken for something else.

And you can still transmit the virus without symptoms.

What about HSV2?

I know I definitely have HSV1 (but I call it cold sores to my partners). I've been tested twice for HSV2 and came out negative.

Actually don't get tested, it's a burden to the medical system to test for something so insignificant that statistically speaking will be positive anyway. Besides if you have it there's nothing you can do about it.

The above is not necessarily my view but I have skimmed through journals discussing how unnecessary herpes testing is putting a strain on certain medical systems. The UK public system seems to have this view, there was a guy a few weeks back that wanted to get tested for HSV-2 and the doctors flat out refused.
