No. The amount of harm isn't comparable at all. FGM is done to prevent sexual pleasure entirely. That can't be said of circumcision.

Not quite. I don't think it's an important issue. I feel like it's an unimportant issue being thrust on me over and over and over (pun intended.) I know I'm right, and you know you're right, and we're never going to get along on this issue. That's why I think it'd be nice if we could just drop it. Look like that's not gonna happen, though. Oh well. I tried.

That's actually the first respectful response I feel like I've gotten in this thread. Thank you :) I hadn't really thought about the AIDS studies being that annoying, but I see your point. I'd just thought of them as data, really, but that's probably because they agreed with me.

No. Again, a fallacy of equivalence. False rape accusations cause substantive, enduring harm not just to the victim, but to his family, neighborhood, business, church, etc. Botched circumcisions are so incredibly rare that no medical association of which I'm aware recommends against the procedure. Regardless of how each make you feel, they're not equivalent in any way.

I'm not ignorant. I just don't think it's wrong. I do indeed refuse to accept the "wrong" part. The arguments are, in my estimation, bollocks. Look, if they were that stellar, there would be at least one large, respected medical association in the US that would recommend against it. Some make it clear that they don't recommend the procedure, but others recommend explaining possible benefits and risks. They wouldn't say that if there weren't possible benefits. This is why I said there can't be a …

Yes, I don't want to argue about it anymore because I'm insecure.

I'm not afraid of an intact penis. Why do leftists always assume the other side's opinions are based on fear or ignorance? I don't care that people disagree with me. I support your right to fight for this issue if you think it's that important. I'd just rather not constantly harp on it here, among issues that really do affect society. How would you feel if day after day, you saw article after article about how great circumcision was? Don't you think you'd get tired of it and just want the issue …

Look at the kind of responses I've gotten. Is this what adult discussion looks like to you? Logical fallacies and accusations of being a terrible person? Not to mention the suggestions to GTFO if I don't like it. I understand the arguments against circumcision. I do. You may not believe that, but it's the case. It's just not something that can be fairly debated anywhere, because it's such an emotional issue. The anti-circumcision crowd is so certain of their moral superiority that rational discu…

This is what I meant when I said there can be no discussion. I hope this made you feel morally superior, because it can have no other effect. Much like posting here in the first place, I'm realizing.

Yes, that's exactly what I want to have happen. Cause everyone pain. Dumbass. I'm sorry that happened to you. That sort of thing used to happen a lot more often than it does now, and even back then, it wasn't really that often. Much like how the rate of deaths caused by bad dentistry has gone down. So you know how angry circumcision makes you? That's how angry constantly shouting that it should be banned makes me. Let's just agree not to bring it up.

This kind of comparison is why your side looks crazy. I know you're trying to make a point, but you're making a terrible logical error of making two things on drastically levels of harm and intrusiveness equivalent. They're not. But that's beside the point. Do you really think this issue is as important as, say, visitation rights?

"The fact is, involuntary circumcision needs to stop now," is an opinion, one which I do not share. I don't consider it an injustice. I consider anger and outrage at a 6000-year-old common practice, performed in innumerable ancient and modern cultures, and which also happens to have health and sexual benefits, to be mentally unhealthy. You don't want to circumcise your kids, that's cool with me. However, don't try to tell me I can't circumcise mine. My kids' dicks are none of your business.

You're comparing this with the civil rights movement? Really? Is that the new Godwin?

You want to make friends with a dude? Start by telling him that he has the wrong penis. WTF is this doing here?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
