Let's cut the constant threads on circumcision.

Let's say that your parents decided to cut off your left arm when you were a baby. Let's say that it's a tradition in your culture. Most people are right-handed anyway, so you'll be able to function just fine with out it. Plus, let's say that removal of the left arm helps lower the risk of acquiring some diseases. Therefore, your parents are totally on board!

Here's the problem, though: maybe you wanted your left arm. Why couldn't your parents just let you grow up and then decide on your own if you wanted to keep it or not? Sure, you don't remember the procedure and can't remember the pain, but other people made the choice for you, and you have to live with the consequences for the rest of your life. That's pretty jacked up. What if other people were suddenly allowed to choose if a women should get an abortion or not, and the mother had no say? People would be pissed. You're taking away their choice.

You may not care about this issue, but other people do. If you don't want to read the posts, don't click on them.

Every time I pee or ejaculate I experience pain, because my circ was done improperly. It happens to thousands upon thousands of boys a year. If you want your sons to possibly go through that for their entire lives, you need to fucking get your head examined.

Just the fact that a ban was proposed is a step in the right direction. Progress isn't always quick, but if people are actively working toward a goal, then the chance that the goal may be fulfilled in the future increases.

You're saying that you want the freedom to decide for someone else whether they will have a part of their genitalia for the rest of their life, and anyone who disagrees with you is attacking you personally?

If every thread was an anti-circumcision thread, then it would be appropriate to balance the focus out to other pressing issues. But quite frankly, to see 3 or 4 threads of these every now and then might even be too little.

It took roughly a century of fight before the 19th ammendment was ratified.

If circumcision was limited to something which only affected adults, sure, we could respectfully disagree and we probably wouldn't see any of these threads.

But you have to remember, anything which affects a child will automatically engender a huge emotional response. So when you say:

I'm going to have my boys circumcised when they're born.

You have to expect a lot of disagreement. In one aspect, it directly contradicts your next statement:

I feel like every one of these threads, even though it's not, is a personal attack on me, because of how incredibly personal and NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS this issue is.

Because, yes, how one raises their child is very much a personal issue and not any of our business, so in that sense, you are right. But when it involves cutting up a child's genitals, there is plenty of room to disagree that it is any more a private issue that parents can decide, any more than parents can decide to have sex with their own children.

Yes, it's a highly sensitive issue, and people can be really mean about it. We really shouldn't insult each other. It's very offensive to hear that your penis is ugly or unhygienic. (To be honest, it really seems like appearance is the driving factor for the pro circumcision camp over the anti camp. After all, who is surgically altering the appearance here?) But as insulting and offensive everyone can be, ultimately, the issue is surrounded with ignorance and fear. As long as people are so appallingly ignorant and fearful of a healthy, intact penis that they are convinced there is a need to perform surgery on their baby's penis, I'm going to do my best to remedy that situation.

It's MY BODY, and I only I decide what modifications I want to make to it. In the mayan culture, they used to but heavy rocks on their children's heads to make them conical shaped, as they regarded that as beautiful. That is fucked up, and loads of the babies died, is it okay because its apart of their religion/culture, NO!

Believe it or not , very few people actually care about circumcision . Sorry but I agree with Gruevy .
It's mutilation in only the strictest sense of the word . Something like having your ear lobes removed . I realize that to some people , it's the issue that matters the most in their lives but I suspect that the reason for that is because they equate it to female circumcision . There's a gulf of difference between the two and only the MRA equivalent to an ideological feminist zealot would fail to see that . In one , excess skin is removed (and yes , I'm aware that it serves some purpose although apparently there's a lot of debate concerning just what purpose that is) In the other , pieces of organs are removed rendering them non-functional as per evolutionary design .

Look , I'm not going to argue about how useful any of it is , what the differences are , or any of that . Frankly , like %99.9 of the population , I just don't give a shit . What's happening here is that a very small subset of people are trying desperately to convince the rest of the world that having some skin removed soon after birth is the same as cutting off your arms with a rusty tin can lid . It's not .

I guess it's easy to forget that nobody else really gives a shit about this "issue" too when the only reactions we see are from like-minded individuals . Of course , in the real world , an anti-circumcision protest for males in New York would probably manage to attract a couple hundred people at most . That's out of over 20 million not including anybody who wanted to show up from further away .

Frankly , there are a million other issues that men face that are completely ignored by society . Why we choose this one as our call to arms is baffling .
