I personally find going solo a bit easier, cause I have more focus and control. I agree though having someone as a "warm up" can be extremely helpful. Maybe go with a group of people whom you can ditch later on, or just chat with the bartender/random people around you as a warm up.

I went to a bar solo this past weekend and had fun. Even got a girl's number. If you feel awkward chat with the bartender or random people at the bar. Its all in your head! :)
