Yeah, let's never question our aims and trajectories. If anybody questions our tactics, they walk the plank. Sarcasm aside, one thing I've noticed whenever you criticize some methods of the movement or sub, you get hit with the same rhetorical tools that feminists often use. In the past week, I've been told to go cry some tears, that I'm tone policing, and that women have privilege. Interesting, isn't it? How the horseshoe slowly bends to meet itself.

Not giving up, but thinking to focus my energy in other places. Maybe a youtube channel or a blog or something. The vitriol in here is hard to stomach.

You can't quantify that in any meaningful way. It's not helpful to state that even if you could quantify it. Are you really suggesting that there is merit in labeling a whole race/gender? That helps men get custody of kids, stops male suicides, stops false rape accusations, etc. how?

Is pointing out privilege even a worthwhile endeavour? Does a disabled white woman have more privilege than a black lesbian? How about a Filipino gay man? What can we gain by pointing out privilege instead of pointing out disadvantage? Are we to be trusted to not employ it as a silencing tactic but feminists aren't? It seems like an arbitrary and useless metric. Privilege makes you focus on bringing down the ceiling instead of raising the floor.

It's not an effective way to bring people around to your cause. You can see the feminist and BLM tactics of strongarming. People who are undecided are hating them in record numbers. If you want to convince people, you have to make yourself look like the reasonable victim and make them look like the unreasonable aggressor. Besides, there are plenty of potentially supportive women who would come here, see this kind of post, turn around, and walk away. I think the "fight fire with fire" mentality i…

Goes to a sub dedicated to fighting generalizations about men. Makes a generalization about women. Honestly, the influx of people who've come here over the past year or so have turned this place into a big hatefest against women. The number of people who want actual equality is dwindling, or is getting crowded out. I'm unsubbing because this place is becoming the feminist mirror. Maybe worse. Let me guess: don't let the door hit your ass on the way out?

You can quote where I suggested anything be banned, any speech be curtailed, or any such thing? Because to accuse somebody of that, one would either have evidence or be thought an overly emotional hysteric.
/r/MensRights20/05/16 08:22 AM

So any comment against a submission is an attempt to control the movement? For somebody who implies that he's all for free speech, you don't take criticism very well. I disagree with the submission. I voiced my opinion. But you're getting hysterical about safe spaces and crying and having one's balls cut off. That's all very dramatic and emotional, don't you think?

"Haha, I'm making things better for men by ridiculing feminists!" Now people who care about men's rights have to be lumped in with this kind of garbage. Come on. The anti-feminist is seething and frothing and doesn't appear logical at all. The feminist does (appear logical). Hey, thanks for the sarcasm! You do know that North Korea arrests people for things like leaving a Bible in a hotel or for "not being there for the purpose of tourism"? Okay, so let's look at what happened. A guy gets arrested, has to memorize a speech using non-native English and crying with no tears for a ruse in front of the cameras. He will be held for less than two years, as they always are, even though he was sentenced to 15 years hard labour. And all of this is over pulling down a sign. I…

I don't even think he did it. The video is dark and odd. The Engrish he uses is obviously written by North Koreans. No American has ever done more than two years of their sentence in the DPRK. And a lot of their charges have been fabricated in the past. This is a country that will kill a military official with a mortar blast for falling asleep at a function. I don't really have a problem with words evolving organically. However, this is a linguistic sleight of hand that sets up a situation where one group is always responsible for the really bad thing while the other groups can only be guilty of not-as-bad stuff. It's your life so you can do what you want. But you could picture relations between any sex/gender/race/ideology if everybody acted as you do. A very small minority of women hate men, and vice versa. But a lot of us seem to be able to eek out some very fulfilling relationships from the opposite sex. I also should remind you that your opinions are the ones the majority of us will have to distance ourselves from if we hope to be taken serious. Your rhetoric is anathema to the movement.

That's not even close to a good enough reason to support "the right". cherrypicked Could you quote me where I said "I support the right"? What I'm saying, since you seem to be missing it, is that the right is supporting me. I don't see liberals standing up in the media and saying things like "stop bashing white men". I've only seen conservatives standing up and saying those things. I appreciate it, and I hope I'm allowed to do so without having to go on further about this.

To be clear, I didn't say that true equality is championed by the whole right all the time. I meant that the only time I see true equality championed it's being done by the right. They are already hated by the feminists and the SJWs, so they have nothing to fear from them.

I still have liberal ideals. What you're doing is drawing a false analogy. A university is supposed to be a place where people are entitled to a venue for their opinions. Of course I don't want men to start claiming that the drunk sex they had was rape, but if it helps stop women from doing it then I say go for it. Okay, I'd like to briefly explain why I think that logic is faulty. Fair point. But maybe we should worry about that when men are writing articles like this, and there's support in the MR community for "if you think it was rape, it was rape" and "if you were drunk, she raped you", etc. I'm not saying it's a bad idea for consent all around, but the last thing I'd like to see is men start behaving like the shrinking violets who demand "consent on an ongoing basis" instead of "if you don't like it anymore, ffs tell the person whose genitals are mashing up against y…

But this has nothing to do with regret, or at least there is zero evidence of that. Not saying "yes" or "no" doesn't make it rape, and the average woman would be best to understand this, and be forgiving of overly exuberant partners. It's your language, so learn to communicate effectively. And don't act like you'd let a feminist get away with saying "men are x" then acting like it only means "some men". This sub has information about a lot of legitimate concerns that men face, but this story is riding high on indignation and a severe lack of critical thinking. The guy was accused, and the deliberation was speedy and in his favour (not that colleges should be dealing with rape cases). Then some morons tried to petition the college to bar him and they failed miserably. There's a lot of stuff men face to get mad about, but this story was as much of a win as a rape accusation gets from an MR angle.
/r/MensRights25/01/16 01:43 AM

Why is your blood boiling? He was found innocent and they could only get 291 signatures for their petition, which needed 1000 to even be taken seriously. He's now suing the false accuser. If there's a possibility of coming out on top after being accused of rape, this is it.
/r/MensRights25/01/16 01:39 AM

That's the inflammatory headline at work "Student Cleared of Rape Still Not Welcome at His College". He is legally welcome at his college, but there is a very small percentage of the student population (291/thousands) who were trying to prevent his return. And they failed. This title should read "Students Fail to Keep Man Cleared of Rape off Campus". That is if the media weren't trying to cash in on righteous indignation on the internet.

You're missing my point: Men can enjoy the ability to insult and degrade women in a public place with a reduced risk of him getting their ass kicked compared to committing the same act towards another man. This is undeniable given the frequency of violence between men and the lower threshold that men have for initiating the violence. Or conduct an experiment: go call five random women "cunt" and call five random men "faggot" and tell me who gives you more trouble.

/r/MensRights22/01/16 11:03 PM

I think your downvotes are evidence that men can be overwhelmingly guided by their emotions too. Internet justice is unwieldy and not desirable in any advanced society. To claim otherwise is to be governed by a thirst for vengeance. Bringing her to justice through legal means is the mark of being civilized.
/r/MensRights21/01/16 09:28 PM

I was a bouncer for a while, and the violence was almost always intrasexual. If you're in any public space, you will see the vast majority of violence will be male-on-male, followed by female-on-female, with the least frequent being intersexual violence. Anybody who spends their time or occupations around large groups of people in social settings can attest to this.
/r/MensRights21/01/16 09:22 PM

To be fair, a lot of men talk in ways to women that they won't to other men because those men will fight. Edit: downvotes based on feelings? Hilarious! Women can beak off to men in public at reduced risks of violence and men can do the same to women. Who could even debate this?

Why should we pay insurance for fat people, smokers, alcoholics, or drug addicts? Or maybe women will opt for abortions knowing that men can opt out before the end of the first trimester. Listen, I'd rather pay zero taxes too. But the tiny amount we'd each individually pay would free some men from an economic prison that may very well ensure that we have to support the…

"Sexist" is not a "name" anymore than "communist" or "nihilist". It denotes an ideology. "Idiot" is not the same. It is purely for insulting purposes. And once a conversation devolves into that, there's no hope of rationality. Bye.

No, it's not. If you have time to post on reddit, you've got time to research your candidates. It's just masking sexism as time constraints. Imagine "I just don't vote for black people anymore". If we're going to substitute different groups for what feminists say, we should get in the habit of doing it to ourselves to see how we sound.

Well, given his age, the breach of trust should be the major charge, while the statutory rape charge should barely be a slap on the wrist considering the age of consent is often 16 in many Western places.
/r/MensRights16/08/15 01:20 PM

Well, both the OP and the boy in the story were adolescents so it's unlikely the women were pedophiles. Or at least that wasn't their sole predilection. Also, the credit we give for agency should incline with age, and there doesn't seem to be a sound argument against that. Therefore, the consent of a fifteen-year-old should be a mitigating factor in sentencing. By the way, who said it was ok for a teacher to sleep with students? Not me. So please be careful of the words you put in my mouth.

Barring medical emergencies, it either should or shouldn't be done. Morally, I couldn't find one reason to do it to my son. I'm cut and enjoy being so. But I think it's an unnecessary medical procedure. One of my most important things I want to give my son is autonomy insofar as it is practical. If he wants to have a circumcision when he's older, he can. But if most men won't because it hurts, maybe that should tell us something about how we should be treating our babies who cannot even consent.

Two female friends immediately launched into me, one of whom was talking about how it's time women shouldn't have to face sexism anymore. So I started a one-week campaign on my facebook showing sexism against men. She thinks women have the market cornered on it, and it's my privilege to show her she's wrong. This became today's post. Suicides are common. Flippant and glib reports on suicides are not. The announcer is alive and can answer for her actions. The jumper cannot. This story says that everybody cringed and was slack-jawed, not pitying this woman. It's also outrage directed at a woman for being insensitive about a man's death. How does this show inequality again?

You can't plan a rope? My kid missed most of Disney on Ice in Japan, which he'd been so psyched about, because an idiot jumped in front of the train. Then his train was delayed on the way back from another jumper. If you think the majority of these people aren't trying to give a parting shot to the world, I don't know what to tell you. There are plenty of quick and easy suicides that don't fuck up everyone's day.

Well, that's a complex question. The whole thing is held to various standards. The school uses a preponderance of evidence to determine whether or not an accused should be expelled. Her complaint, and none of the others, met that standard. However, many feminists on the internet don't have any real evidentiary standard for her, so they believe that she was raped, no matter the lack of evidence. MRAs, not to be outdone, have no proof that she is lying and are going to the same lengths to shame he…

There is no "Shadow of a Doubt" standard. That's legalese for "impossible to prove". And we can't know for sure that she wasn't raped. OJ was found innocent, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't a killer. Therefore "she continued her declarations publicly is to lie" is not true. Nungesser wasn't proven to be a rapist, but that doesn't mean it is proof she was lying. It's interesting. I set the bar that I would have set for me. Unless somebody admits to lying or raping, it looks like we won't know beyond a reasonable doubt. The neighbour reported a scream. The neighbour isn't an accuser. As much as I support men's rights, this thread shows that there are many men who would rather be victims than be logical. A neighbour can't call in a scream and the cops, without evidence, arrest a man when his wife doesn't accuse him. And the wife can't say what would have happened if her husband had been home. The OECD study, examining gender inequality in education, says that girls can be put off careers in science because of a lack of self-confidence and negative stereotypes. And The report also showed that in science and maths, girls often underestimated their own ability. Even when they were as good or better than boys in these subjects, they still lacked the self-confidence to pursue careers in science and technology. Well, I'm glad this article finally got to the meat of the problem about teache…

I'm sorry you're catching flack for being a feminist. I'd like to distance myself from the loonies in this movement as I'm sure you'd like to distance yourself from the loonies in yours. Many of us do appreciate you, no matter what you call yourself. Men need help from women like you because not many people will listen to men like us. Thank you for your effort and for taking on our struggle.

14 upvotes for this? Come on, fellas. Here is the definition of "hate speech" in Canada: In Canada, advocating genocide[19] or inciting hatred[20] against any "identifiable group" is an indictable offence under the Criminal Code of Canada with maximum prison terms of two to fourteen years. An 'identifiable group' is defined as "any section of the public distinguished by colour, race, religion, ethnic origin or sexual orientation". It makes exceptions for cases of statements of truth, and subject…

I was thinking mainly of the child though, that the child shouldn't have to grow up without a parent, and also in poverty. Agreed. But it's 2015 and women can make money and get a new partner. Or have an abortion. Or not get a new partner. But society will not let a child go hungry. There are untold programs for single mothers. As for the balance of "forced to have abortion" as opposed to "forced to be a parent", as long as the split of values and the time with the child is always 50/50, then th…

It will either force the woman to have an abortion, or that the kid will grow up most likely very poor. Funny, isn't it? Nobody seems too worried about forcing a man to be a parent or making the man poor. Now, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but do you see how your default position is gynocentric?

You celebrate fighting speech with threats of rape and violence, and are so quick to lose an ally. You are the caricature of an MRA that they bandy about in the media. This movement would be better off with Paul staying and you going.

Agreed. We shouldn't celebrate anything but critical discourse and political action. Debating them into submission is one thing, but none of them deserve being made to fear for their safety. Say "many women". It avoids the problems in the title. Nobody's trying to censor the discussion. I'm just hoping for some standards for claims that this movement makes. I see the lack of intellectual integrity of some feminist claims and I'd like to see this movement avoid that, but in some ways the MRM is worse.

If you can't prove the majority of women are preventing their exes from seeing their kids, don't call it a fact. Pretty simple. As for your terrible fish analogy, we can see reams of data about which species live at which depth in which body of water. From that we use inductive reasoning to form the knowledge that fish live in water. You'll have to do better than that to invert the burden of proof.
/r/MensRights03/01/15 10:53 PM

Come on. The person who makes the claim provides the evidence. That's how intelligent adult discussions work. This sub/movement shouldn't get defensive when somebody asks for proof. We should have it at the ready instead of engaging in bullshit illogical arguments. This is childish.

The kind of thing is one of the reasons I got into men's rights. One of the heads of Buzzfeed (see edit) outright tweeted that women are better than men. And nobody cancels advertising. You'll forgive me if I don't get on board this train considering an Italian court found that a woman who accused a man of rape couldn't possibly be raped because she wore tight jeans. It took nine years to overturn that precedent. Just because she left the bathroom with him is not conclusive evidence that she wasn't raped. If she was, in fact, raped, this story would read quite well in the feminist sub as proof of rape culture.

It was not constructed with the scientific method in mind. It was a loose attempt to show how crowds of people react to violence across sexes. It's not being published in a social sciences journal, so it needn't be exact. It happened exactly as 99.9% of us would expect (don't even try to hold me to that number). Be weary of confirmation bias. Confirmation bias is not what I'm weary of right now, if you catch my drift.

Yeah, except you can see thousands of fights between men where one is bigger and nobody does shit. I don't know how you can't see gender is the variable here. You'd also have to have lived under a rock for your whole life to have never heard " there's no excuse for hitting a girl" or to have seen the myriad ads for domestic violence all positing the women as the victims. It wasn't supposed to be a scientific experiment. It simply showed what we (most of us, anyway) already know.

Without a qualifier like "some", "many", or something else, you are making a blanket statement about all members in that group. Even if you aren't intentionally doing that, you should clear up the ambiguity for linguistical clarity's sake. But let's see if you can see it from the other side: MRAs are misogynists. Men are rapists. Circumcisions are necessary. If these are true in more than two cases each, then these statements are correct.

Hate to sound rude , but this seems to be a reading comprehension issue. No, it isn't. I understand the implied meanings of "begging" in this context. I would react in the same way to saying a person was "begging to be hit" by calling some black guy a nigger. The implication is tempting fate or goading someone into an action. To dispute that is to dispute women's agency and rationality. Interestingly, I'm giving agency and the credit to men that they can not be a rapist. Like the nigger analogy,…

Neither. My objection is that he is being inflammatory, as well as defending a position that I find indefensible that anybody is begging to be raped, no matter how much of a tease they are. People should be careful about not getting raped. They should also be careful about not being rapists.

Who is asking permission? I'm talking to people of the movement about the movers of the movement. I don't know why you're conflating what I'm doing with that. Do you suggest we throw away all we know about successful social movements and bay from the rooftops without care? I would like this movement to get more traction. I think it is more difficult when you have to explain why one of its leaders says that some women are begging to be raped.

I hear what you're saying but I don't take women's suffering more seriously. I have a lot of history with domestic abuse, from abusive girlfriends to an abused/abusive mother. My concern over that article is the fact that, in my opinion, it's indefensible. Nobody who is a victim of sexual assault was begging for it. I'm a person who is in control of his hormones. If a woman leads me on then says "no", then I stop. And she can GTFO. I take issue with it because it paints us like animals and makes…

If you can't understand that I think you may want to join the feminists. Really? If you don't agree with me/him, go join the other team? You're using standard emotionally divisive language and a false dichotomy to boot. I can be against this article and still sympathize with men's struggles. You may prefer the world in black and white, and it is more convenient to judge others that way, but many of us recognize the grays that you've missed.

I'd like to point out that some men are dangerous. As are some women. And some blacks. And some insert race/gender/denomination. I'm all for a we, as men, looking into our patterns of violence. I think it would be therapeutic. But I also think that it conflicts with many who are here to change the rest of the world before changing themselves.

But my indignation at the feminist opposition to the MR conference in Detroit is somewhat less acute when I see that the website he founded, and where he made that comment, is the catalyst for the event. This is great! Now we can blame feminism for all the statutory rape men have committed as teachers towards their students throughout the ages. Firstly, there was no damaging sexual assault, in my opinion. It sounded lascivious, but not traumatizingly so. It doesn't seem like something that the kid will have nightmares from or need therapy for. Secondly, removing her from her job would likely solve the problem. Her failure was an inability to recognize boundaries, not an attempt to separate the child from the other students so she could get off by molesting him. A couple things: So why are so many otherwise sensible men, with stable jobs and happy marriages, going under the knife? Why do their jobs matter? Why are they not sensible? Secondly, it should be noted that it seems to be the responsibility of the male beauty standards that make men get plastic surgery. Women get plastic surgery to satisfy men; men do it to live up to the standards of other men. ( it's interesting to see how agency is distributed).

I think that it's socially thorny to do, but we need to admit there are gradations of rape. On one end of the spectrum there is the type of rape where the person was horny but hesitant, didn't say no very loudly, and didn't struggle and then there's a full-on knife to the throat sadistic rape. I've been technically date raped for a few minutes and I'm none the worse for wear. But if I'd been held down for 10 minutes pleading, it would be a different story.

I don't think you're getting it. Circumcision, in this day and age, is generally unnecessary surgery. The only reason it's still happening is because of culture/religion. You will alter your child's body for the rest of their life. Herein lies the moral problem. If your child's foreskin is gangrenous, by all means get it removed. If someone is physically abused, there are bruises, scratches, blood, etc. This is helpful in legally determining if abuse is happening. It's much more difficult with verbal abuse. If an adult wishes to stay with another adult despite verbal/emotional abuse, there is nothing that can be done for them. But it is incumbent upon the state to make sure that physical abuse doesn't escalate to something more serious. It is assumed that an adult can make their own decisions as long as there is no viole…

I wish you would look into some of his work. He fights for what he believes to be right, but he is a yielding and humble man when he is wrong, and he prefaces a great deal of what he says with his acknowledgement of his own limitations. Even after trouncing the catholics in his debate with Hitchens, he has an interview with one of his adversaries and admits completely that he jumped the gun during this interview and apologizes. This is a Feminist Issue because: A woman was victimized The cause or effect have little to do with the victimization She has been deprived of her rights to live a rich life Women as victims of violence and crime is definitely a feminist issue. You sound like one of the nuts from the other team. Your history is scary and nothing can be gained by playing victim politics. It's not an MRA issue because: -this abuse did not happen, so far as we can tell, because he's a man -while only a man could suffer injuries to his penis, we don't know if the penis is the cause -this is not a culturally approved genital modification but the work of a psycho There are enough grievances for men without looking for reasons to be offended.

The implication of this question is that you think it is a completely meritless movement. asking for what's rightfully yours very nicely and then just sort of pouting when they don't actually get it. This is not a fair example of what we're discussing. A good example would be MLK vs Malcolm X. MLK mobilized far more people, white and black, for the cause of blacks. Malcolm X, prior to his pilgrimage to mecca, preached a message of division and anger. In the end, one made more of a difference than the other.

While we are responsible for trying to be safe, to say that a woman who passes out and gets raped is responsible is pretty disgusting. Passing out is not an invitation for rape. While she failed herself in judgement or estimating her tolerance, it is always the fault of the rapist.

I love how, when faced with numbers that show women as equally abusive, this gets rolled out: Dorothy Espelage, a researcher at the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, says, "Without measures of fear, severity and injury, we need to be cautious" about interpreting the new nationwide survey results. I've had some very level-headed discussions with some feminists. I've had arguments with others. Our movement is no different. There is no logic in saying that a whole movement is incapable of logic. Should I be thought of as illogical for sharing some of the same issues IcarusLived does? No. For me, it could be fixed with a qualifier of amount: some, many, most, etc. But a statement that blankets millions of women? I want no part of that.

I don't think that's fair to say and I really hope that's not what this movement is about: discounting millions of women in one stroke. I hear it about myself as someone who speaks on men's issues. It's a tactic that allows you to tune out whatever the other group says.

A lot of people in here are saying that the negativity of this is a poor choice, and I'm inclined to agree, except for one thing: I think the reason the person made it this way is because they have internalized the idea that men possess these bad qualities. So in making this, they don't say "men are as good as women" because a) they don't identify men as good and/or b) they don't want to further the notion that men live up to women's kindness, but that women live down to men's shortcomings. To be honest, they are a credit union that does a lot of work with noble goals in mind. But this promotion seems like it's based on the assumption that women will celebrate the numbers and men will simply nod their heads and not ask difficult questions. And they're not entirely wrong, I think.
/r/MensRights10/03/13 02:20 PM
6

It's not the numbers that are unfair in my mind. If they were more qualified, then by all means, or if women apply in higher numbers, no problem. It's that they are promoting themselves as a business with advertising that certainly couldn't be used if the genders were reversed. I have no problem celebrating the strides women have made. They often benefit us all. But you couldn't reverse the genders, and that's inequality.

I should clarify: it's not a problem that women occupy these positions, unless they are practicing sexism in hiring. The problem for me is that no such poster would be acceptable for men. Imagine this being plastered anywhere. Imagine the questions: Are they implying men are more trustworthy with financial decisions? Are they discriminating against women? For me, the number of women in the upper echelons of this bank are women and they are waving that flag. I have a son, and I think this sends t…

My point is that a pic with the converse would not be acceptable for "Men's Day". It would be inappropriate to boast of such numbers, especially such unbalanced ones.
/r/MensRights10/03/13 12:20 PM

I'm not against the numbers. I'm against the fact that, if genders were switched, there would be an outcry that women were being blackballed from that institution. It may very well be that women are simply applying in greater numbers. My complaint is that this wouldn't fly. At all.

Well, people don't see her pubes and the money for the pic is less and less interest is garnered by it. It becomes less of a topic, Matt Lauer might not ask about it. Or she could have not been so indignant about the situation considering she has a habit of flaunting her body in public.

If you know that there will be hundreds of paparazzi around you, would you choose to wear a short skirt and no panties? She knowingly entered a situation where she would be photographed and wore clothes that would expose her. This is different than your analogies. A better analogy would be a cop that went to a raid without his vest and got shot through the heart. The guy who they're raiding probably shouldn't have shot the cop but the cop should be prepared knowing what he's walking into.

I never said that they should be acting to prevent rape. I said they should wear panties when exiting a car in a short skirt in front of hundreds of paparazzi at their own massive Hollywood premiere. Or they should just blow it off and not act indignant when a scorpion acts like a scorpion.
/r/MensRights14/12/12 10:17 PM
1

You just made a false equivalency of a higher order. Anne Hathoway was not in her house; she was in public where there is no legal right to privacy. At her own premiere. In front of hundreds of paparazzi. Paparazzi are often scum. Granted. But a short skirt and no panties? She could have a) worn panties or b) not gotten so indignant about it. It's not the first time this has happened.
/r/MensRights14/12/12 10:13 PM
1

I agree. However, as the analogy I used in the thread is this: If, every time you go to your friend's house he hits you with a hammer, how much are you to blame if you keep going back? My point in that thread was that the world is a certain way and it's best to be prepared for it.

I think the top-down use of cameras is similar to Bentham's "Panopticon", but I think the general use of cameras is simply in the interest of self-preservation. Sadly, some people here would rather circle-jerk about how tough it is for men instead of honestly putting forth an assertion or singling out a problem without all the indignation and snark of op's post. I agree with some of the stuff put forth in here and I've learned a lot, but this picture is emotivistic masturbation. We should do better.

Except that if he were on skid row, she wouldn't be getting it. Listen, if you don't believe there are deadbeat fathers out there then you're too caught up in your agenda to see that things can be shitty for both sexes.

Again, this could all be true about my example, too. The op's submission is sarcastic and not intended to supply assertions or facts; it's meant as emotive fodder to "rouse the rabble". I'm not arguing the point, I'm arguing the way the point is made.

Let's be honest: some women could take a pic of some single mother with foodstamps and say : "Reaping the benefits of alimony and child support." This is just rabble rousing.

I don't think women have it good, nor do men. We have our difficulties individually and as sexes. We needn't say their lives are easy or ours are harder, we should be looking towards equality instead. Stand up for women when they need it and ask them to stand up for us when we need it.

It's important to note that none of the contemporary ads "against" women are particularly insulting. Though I didn't watch the Axe ad (I work at a high school in an open teachers' room). All-state showed a guy as the bad behaviour that possessed the OMG girl. The pink car does show shitty female privelege, I'll admit, but part of the message is that destruction is manly in nature. Dodge: a list of things a guy does to make a woman happy and in return he wants his car of choice. I can think of th…

Or maybe they will feel bad when they hear the men's side of the situation. Perhaps the fact that they were among a group of women made it a circle jerk, but when the complaints are brought to their attention one/all might think differently. You're suggesting women could never take responsibility based on the fact that they're women. This is sexism. We don't want it for us and we shouldn't employ it against them.

I kind of agree. I know that I would have taken a blowy from an older woman with absolutely no hesitation when I was 15. Hell, I wanted to have sex with my neighbour and would fap to the idea since I was 11. If that was running through my head, maybe it runs through some girls' heads, too. Obviously there should be some line but I think this kind of thing, where it's basically consensual and there is no manipulation, should be looked upon a little lighter for both sexes.

Personally, I think that people shouldn't be photographed naked without their consent, and the pic shouldn't be immortalized on the internet. That's paramount for me. What's secondary for me is that the violation shouldn't be gradated based on gender. The idea that people are too hung up on nudity runs a very distant last place for me, as more people wanting to accept nudity doesn't violate anybody's rights in the same way that the aforementioned two points do violate rights. I understand what y…

It's not about your reaction. It's about the tendency to become hyper-vigilant about protecting women from being sexually victimized, but treating it as a joke when men face the same situation. This is one of the paramount parts of the Men's Rights Movement, as far as I understand it.

If fathers spent 150% more time with children than women, I can almost gaurantee there wouldnt be anywhere near as much abuse of children. Listen, Champ, abandoning your kid (which too many men do) should be considered child abuse. I'd like to see time spent be about fifty-fifty. However, I'm glad that my father wasn't around because he is miles more abusive than my mother. Women are naturally abusive people, men are not. Not interested in your Kool-aid.
/r/MensRights10/07/11 11:23 PM

S/he is saying that if the statistic isn't controlling for time spent with kids, it is not compelling considering the number of deadbeat fathers out there. In fact, it might go against the MRA agenda if, say, women spend 150% more time than men with kids but only commit 56% of the abuse.

I think you're exactly right. The fact is that people flirt; some badly, some well. The mistake, as you pointed out, is in becoming as sensitive as many women are nowadays. If we all followed the popular feminist template, nobody would get laid and lawyers would double their salaries. I'm not particularly interested in a world where men heighten their indignation at flirting, but more interested in a world where many women lower theirs.

Men are discriminated against in society based on the dominant narrative that they are the archetypal abusers in relationships. What you have is a bias towards "common sense", it seems. "Common sense" shouldn't be used to decide legislation. "White middle-class faux-radical fanboys, in their mid-twenties are known to attribute misogynous perceptions in regards to womens views or stance on technology or politics. That's cute! You threw a bunch of words together and hoped they worked out. You included "misogynous" so that would get you at least a B in women's studies.

Don't know if trolling, so here goes: we're in men's rights /r/. Therefore, it could be assumed that we both are in favour of men having equal rights. If that's the case, we want to be considered equal to women. I want women to take our issues seriously. If I expect that respect, I must give it. This is the basis for reciprocity. Your first paragraph (your second, less so) is intriguing and makes me believe you support equality. Your last paragraph uses language that makes you look less like you…

Then it would be more prudent that she specify "those two guys" instead of painting the companies as all-male and all men being in on the decision. Listen, one prominent tenet of feminism is critical discourse analysis. It can't be a tool for them but off limits for others. She chose wording that served her agenda, a crime men are lambasted for. Let's all play by the same rules.

even if they weren't it wouldn't make a difference. regardless of the gender representation in disney management, magowan's post is about the company's new policy If you know anything about dealing with feminists (or any group that is lamenting a power/resource grievance), it's that every word matters. If you are going to deconstruct your "opposition's" motivation for everything, be prepared to cover your own ass or suffer the same lens you'd analyze others with.

I'd gladly agree on the term "people" being more appropriate than "guys" (assuming we are concerned with truth and accurate representation). Thanks for the source.

I think when she called the gentle giant who was brutally abused an "oaf", it really set the tone for the article. oaf noun \ˈōf\ plural oafs Definition of OAF 1 : a stupid person : boob 2 : a big clumsy slow-witted person It's important to attack the self-esteem of a man after he's been reduced to a punching bag in the media. I only haul this word out for special occasions, but what a fucking cunt.

Yes. It was unbiased and fair. Stabbing a man with a knife because she's exasperated is acceptable. Punching a woman because a man wants power isn't. Problem?

I like how the writer blames "the guys" at Disney-Pixar twice in the article without doing any research. If she did, she'd know that management at Disney is 44% female. But that would get in the way of feeling victimized by "the paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatriaaaaaarchy!", wouldn't it?

You know nothing of Asian culture and, more specifically, how they view non-Asians. As a white guy in Japan, I walk down the halls of my school and hear the kids talk about how cool I am (not claiming I am). Lots of girls want to date you and lots of dudes want to be you. Lots don't, but that's like any race. More traditional parents don't want their girls to marry white guys, lots don't mind and some think it's very "international" and enviable. No, they don't get upset by looking at pictures of people. They get upset with unrealistic beauty standards, photoshopping, and sexualization. The US middle class is beset by financial problems. Fox News and the like step in and give them a false target. That's kind of the opposite of a large degree of truth, isn't it? I disagree with what you're intimating: if the shoe fits, wear it. It's called "signifying" in linguistics and is a common assertion among rappers that if women get offended when they say "bitch" then they must be a bitch. Remember yesterday's post? What does it mean to say a guy is "creepy" or is a "stalker"? It simply means that the guy is not someone the woman is attracted to. If McCormick wore a pink Polo with popped collars, no doubt the little rich girl would not have viewed him as a creepy stalker. Judging someone without all the facts, hm? Isn't that what the university is being accused of?

It's not impossible, but is it probable? More importantly, is it worthy of dicussion here? It's very possible and why would it not be worthy of discussion? The facts as we know them are that he has been accused by two separate women. One charge involved assault and harrassment. My familiarity with the laws of averages is not exhaustive by any means, but it seems more likely that she would have recanted her testimony out of fear than a man being accused of rape by two different women. Because as top female player Jelena Jankovic whined last week at the prospect of playing best of five: "What, you want to drive us into oblivion?"
