This post sounds like I wrote it myself a few years ago. The only difference is I had one kid. I can only say, when I was exactly, exactly in the same situation (wife’s words etc) ultimately I didn’t see any hope. It’s a tragedy. Here’s one perspective. If there’s no resentment from your wife, initiating divorce now (when there’s no resentment) may be the best course of action. My ex had settled into a pattern of always criticizing everything and always being negative. This applied to even marriage therapist. After a few sessions, she would say the therapist is useless/incompetent/terrible, and stop going. After some time, I would find another therapist. Rinse and repeat, until a therapist told me, “if she stated to you that she’s not coming to therapy and stated to you that she’s not interested in putting efforts toward improvements, you have to make a decision.”

It’s terrible for a child of course. This is the biggest reason why I tried to save my marriage for so long. Staying in for the child, when 1) conflict is relatively hidden and 2) there’s a prospect for recovery is a very reasonable decision. But (2) is the key. To stay in for the children, you must believe a realistic chance that it will get better. Otherwise splitting it with some shared parenting agreement is better.

Something like that. I was full of passion and completely devoid of logic. After weekly flights and years of on and off multiple marriage therapists, and stonewalling. After trying my hardest, whenever my ex said no I’m not interested in another marriage therapist, begging her to give another try. My decision fo…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
