That is certainly true. I would imagine acting in that way and allowing him to deal with the situation probably would have been less threatening given he doesn’t often take an active interest in cooking. I can only imagine how it would have ended up had I attempted to take over and then berate him afterwards for letting it happen in the first place!

And I absolutely would have been capable of resolving the situation, but my stress levels would likely have been far higher since level-headedness in a crisis is not a natural skill of mine. However, I compensate for that by 1) being much more familiar with my kitchen and all appliances and 2) I’ll always check settings once when setting them and then again once they’re in use. Either way, the specifics of the situation are less relevant, it was more of an observation of how in time of heightene…

If I may, my experience is that the word submissive is quite loaded, it might be more helpful to think of it as stepping aside. In my relationship, this means that I step aside to allow my husband to steer our family in the right direction and I trust him implicitly in that. But I also know that he deeply values my opinion and experience, so if I raised an objection, then he would listen and take it into account. My husband cares and protects us fiercely and would do almost anything to make me h…

I am also not a typical rpw. I am non religious, I am typically politically liberal (although it’s a different political environment in the uk so this is somewhat different to the states... I’d say I probably count as more centrist in reality?) I am also alternative and have unusual hair and heavily tattooed. I don’t identify as a feminist, I have no real issues with it, but I don’t enjoy the shaming and derogatory behaviour often engaged in by the left. It’s not acceptable to shame any woman fo…

You can’t change him. Maybe check out some of the tactics mums use for getting veggies into unwilling children’s bellies - blending into sauces etc, but if that’s what he’s like then that’s what he’s like. We can’t change others, only ourselves.

Seconding the vote to read fascinating womanhood. I felt really weird reading it let alone applying it, given my liberal leaning background and previous social circle. But it’s been really remarkable how much calmer our home is. It really feels like those roots are spreading and growing and will provide us with security. I adore being more present for my family. The first day of reading the book I complimented my husband for something quite small and insignificant and he nearly teared up. I real…

The recommendation from the book was to ensure you’re getting 2-3 self care things in a day. Some self care is just nice (bubble baths, Reading Etc etc), others are self care activities that make you feel good afterwards (I would guess for most, working out is probably in this group, maybe a group workout activity you just find super fun would be in the first category). Ideally you want a mixture from the two groups. I think sometimes it can take a while to take the different hats off that we al…

Hmm. Are you telling him he shouldn’t do stuff with her? Have you tried to present the problem to him and let him figure out the solution? My husband spoils our daughter rotten with his time, but he does take an active role in discipline. I am more likely to encourage good manners, but he will absolutely not tolerate tantrums or stroppy behaviour in public. I’m sure your husband will do a fantastic job balancing his desire to spoil his little girl along with teaching her how the world works! Jus…

I believe part of our roles as mothers is to teach our daughters the power of their words. My daughter can ask anything of my husband and he would get it for her; I try to teach her that out of respect for him we should never abuse his willingness to make us happy with whatever we desire. It’s fascinating to learn from their interactions though.

I am working on losing 120lb. I’ve lost 20lb so far, but it’s taken me a long time and I’d like to speed the process up a little! I’m also working on a full body suit. It’s an exercise in patience, dedication and surrendering and the tattoo sessions challenge me so much. I’m over 150 hours into the process so far, and there are many, many more hours to go. These two goals are ongoing, but a more short term one is that I want to get back to running again. There is an incredible park near me and I…

Something that helped me was switching my dietary focus to whole foods. When I’m eating a whole foods diet I find that I’m better able to listen to when my body is full, and any cravings for processed foods subside very rapidly after a few days on the diet. I’m entirely plant based but I’m sure the concepts would work with whatever else you might eat so long as it is not processed.

So I know a lot of the advice is to allow your husband to decompress and share about their day after they get home from work before you talk about yourself. But it sounds like you’re really tired and exhausted. Are you getting enough self care in? If you’re not, then maybe you could let your husband know that you want x amount of time alone when he gets in to go have a bath and relax or whatever. I’m reading the surrendered wife at the moment and there was a chapter about how when our husbands i…

I’m heavily tattooed and on my way to a full body suit... it’s not everybody’s cup of tea and that’s alright. It takes more dressing up for me to look smarter, though! I’m grateful that we have the disposable household income to go to good artists as well.

I’m really glad you have commented though, it’s fascinating to learn more from men who have compatible goals when it comes to relationships. I find TRP far too abrasive for my feminine nature, but I love and value men, so it is useful to read male feedback from time to time.

I live in the UK and my engagement was 8 months. I know this might sound a little cold, but if you consider it like you would planning for any other event (ie, there are x number of guests, I need to feed x people this meal and x have special requests, what are the timings of all the things that need doing) it becomes a lot easier. Thinking of it as an event that needed planning rather than “I must make my wedding the most perfect wedding of all weddings” really took a lot of the pressure off so…

I think you’re right to just ignore for now, he’s probably trying to get a rise out of you and you’re absolutely within your rights to cease all contact until you feel more emotionally in control of the situation. I’m so sorry you’re hurting, it sounds extremely tough. Every day will take you further along a new path towards happiness though, even the really awful days.

Thank you for answering questions, I really appreciate learning more about arranged marriages! It’s not something I’ve ever encountered really, so it’s always been a bit of a mystery! What was it like initially and was there a moment where you became aware of a deeper emotional connection with your husband? What advice were you given before your marriage by your family to ensure your marriage was successful? My i…

I’m planning on going along to crochet groups where I live. I really need to expand my social circle a little, since I don’t feel like my social needs are being entirely met. I’m not religious, which does make it harder I suspect. Luckily, I’m quite introverted and content spending lots of time on my own, so a couple of hours of social time a week would be sufficient. A friend of mine actually confessed the other day that she would like to be a housewife. They plan for her to be home when they e…

I’m not part of any organised religion, so I’ve been finding it tough to find like-minded individuals. My plan is to go along to some craft groups and perhaps find people there? Somebody I am friends with confessed she wants to be a housewife and stay at home mum after she has a child... I got the impression she was worried about judgement when she mentioned it to me and it got me thinking about trying to create a social group in the city I live in.

There was around 18 months of dating before we got engaged, of which about 9 months was living together. As for timing, it just felt right. I did not pressure him about getting married, we had discussed it on a couple of occasions so we knew we were both on the same page. But he arranged the proposal entirely himself and surprised me. Our engagement was under a year. We’ve been married almost 8 years now and our home is peaceful and harmonious. My goal right now is to be the best wife I can be f…

I don’t feel comfortable discussing details. But, there are many companies that have very specific and unique IT requirements where they pay extremely handsomely for consultancy work because of the intricacies and sometimes outdated nature of the systems they rely on.

I got engaged at 23, married at 24 and had our child at 25. It was a bit isolating if I’m honest, the rest of our social circle (non-religious, largely liberal views and were not terribly accepting of our choices, which was a shame. Some of our friends from then are now in their thirties and beginning to go down the IVF route or just starting to think about trying to conceive in their mid 30s. I’m very glad we started our family when we did!

I have underbust corsets; My experience of them has been that they provide some upwards support to my breasts regardless, but my chest is rather small. You may have some luck looking at experiences of stealthing overbust corsets however. I just love them though, I always feel so feminine wearing them and I love how they encourage me to be much more mindful of how I move my body.

Figuring out a routine helped me feel more in control of cleaning and home keeping. I used the fly lady system to build my own routine. Getting rid of everything non-essential also helped - it reduces picking up time, dusting/cleaning time and amount of washing to be dealt with. Look into minimalism to help with this - the book “goodbye things” is great. The app Tody is helpful with maintaining order too - you can set it to remind you when stuff needs doing. It would take a while to populate tas…

I wear a corset to make my body look even curvier and to get closer to that ideal waist-hip ratio. orchard corsets are great for good quality affordable corsets in a variety of styles. As well as enhancing my waist, I also helps me feel more put together and makes me look taller thanks to the improvement in posture when I wear a corset. Figuring out your colours will help loads, it makes the shopping process really easy since you immediately can rule out some items. Figuring out your style rules…

Yes, the entire household is. It makes food prep a lot easier, but it came about from me changing my diet and then eventually my husband got curious and asked me questions, which I did my best to answer in as gentle way as possible (I didn’t want to make him feel bad for his food choices, even if I didn’t agree with them!). Red lentils are great to cook with, they are so soft and don’t have that earthy taste I think you can get with green lentils. I use them as the base for my daal and also swee…

My gym had childcare and those two hours of child free time every week day were absolute bliss - a workout, a jacuzzi and a long shower and blow dry/ makeup on in peace. Absolutely was worth the money. I know many people look very tired with a young baby but I honestly looked pretty great.

I recommend checking out Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) recipes online, you might find some stuff that takes your fancy there. Since the recipes rely on loads of veggies, rice etc they can be nice and light on calories for big portions and WFPB eating means reducing oil so that’s always a nice way to drop calories out of your food. I do a lot of water frying for veggies to eliminate the need for oil in many of my recipes. The WFPB recipe sites are less militant than some of the other areas of the…

This made me so happy to read! I’m super early on in this but I can already see some extremely promising signs. It’s wonderful how a shift in perspective and attitude can have such an impact. My timeline (I’d dated my now-husband for around four years but it was a bit of a mess thanks to issues he needed to resolve. we separated for 18 months and I dated a couple of other men and became much clearer on what I wanted in a life partner (Him, but having sorted his problems out!) Not a sweet bake, but have you ever made bagels? They’re super fun and easy. My husband has loved me making them recently! I’ve always flitted back and forth between the idea that I can do everything and be everything to all people and the belief that we are happiest when we accept our particular strengths and play to those. I chucked all my ratty old pjs the other week and have a set of nighties instead. They’re just cheap ones whilst I see if I like them, but it’s been 2 weeks now and I’m finding it easier to do my self care routines at the end of the day and my husband seems to like it too. Definitely a really easy change to make! Edit: I opted for silky gowns with lace detailing. If I continue to enjoy them and feel nice in them I’ll splurge on some nicer ones (recommendations welcome!)

I really want to try some stuff from the ordinary but I find it completely overwhelming! I’ve looked through skincare addiction a few times over the years and felt much the same. I’ve been considering going to a dermatologist to get help with my skin because it’s still so unmanageable at almost age 32 and now I’m getting delightful rashes and burning whenever I try new products or even products I’ve previously been able to use. I was wondering about this today. I spent some time with a friend and she confessed a dark and deeply held secret - she wants to be a housewife! I was quite surprised at how difficult it seemed for her to admit it, but the relief was amazing when she realised I was supportive and encouraging of following what she desires. Her husband earns good money and she felt she could provide more value in their lives by supporting from the home. I chose not to mention anything about rpw, but if the situati…

Okay, there are so many similarities here to things I’ve experienced in my life and my relationship it’s slightly unnerving. Remember, your hormones will go completely loopy after having the implant removed. It takes time to settle down and you may find your thoughts on family shift back to where they were previously. First, having children whilst either of you are in this state is a recipe for disaster. I honestly mean it. Mental health challenges left unchecked will be intensely exacerbated wi…

Could you try getting a really elegant belted jacket to wear to and from work? I’d recommend looking into minimalism to perhaps help you reduce the amount of stuff you own. It makes management of your stuff and cleaning a much more streamlined affair. Since hugely reducing the amount of clothing my family owns a few years ago, there’s been a big reduction in the amount of washing required and subsequent folding, ironing and putting away. Nobody minds either, because they like all their clothing …

I don’t know whether this will help, but the lecture by Dr Doug Lisle on YouTube called “how to lose weight without losing your mind” is a good watch. It’s about 40 minutes. He advocates a plant based diet for many reasons but I don’t see why you couldn’t include eggs, meat or dairy into it if that suits you better. The idea is essentially minimally processed foods in your diet. Spending time figuring out triggering foods helped me lots. I’m far from perfect and have a long way to go, but once I…

I think minimalism is marvellous! I did a study on it for my degree and minimalists had a statistically significant increase in life satisfaction compared to non minimalists. Now I can’t answer why that is because my research wasn’t able to extend to assess what may impact upon it but my suspicions are: less focus on material goods -greater satisfaction with what they already have less time maintaining possessions (cleaning, storing, house size etc) more time for hobbies Edit: I should also note…

I feel I’m a little too early on in all this to really be able to share my wisdom, but our relationship has certainly been tested over the years. We are completely devoted to each-other though. What fantastic insight and advice! I’d like this comment multiple times if I could. From my own experience: I suffered with depression when I was a teenager and young adult. It was never managed or dealt with however (mental health provisions where I lived were poor, and I was unable to be a good advocate for myself).
