I briefly mentioned it at the top but to clarify. I don't need help using a computer, I just use a stock Macbook Pro. Mac OS X comes with "screen reader" software as standard called voiceover which allows you to access most apps/functions with keyboard shortcuts and text to speech feedback. This is turned on with fn + cmd + f5. On windows most blind people either use third party software to work in a similar way.

That was me about a year and a half back. If you've got good mates though night life is alright. I don't go clubbing though as A) I can't dance and B) I like to be able to talk.

Well all I can say is it will take time and don't let it stop you from doing things which are possible. I was diagnosed at 5 so i've had a long time contemplating and preparing what might happen. It can suck at times of as well though. Also don't resist the blind/VI Community. It is varied and you can meet some socially inept characters but there are also an abundance of great people who you can relate to your issues. It definitely helped me to stop being self pitying. and do stuff.

Haha, cheers for the description. Saying this, apparently the NRA are now advocating that blind people should have guns. That can only end well!

Exactly, It doesn't matter to me really. Personalities have always mattered to me more even when sighted.

Nope, RP is very similar though. Cheers for the comment. I am realising that I can work with the eye condition now but I do still have to do something to get better at talking to ransomers but that's the same as 90% of this forum.

For myself I dream with full vision as i've previously had it. I do still see light and outlines but it is like everything is covered in a thick fog, not black. Sorry to hear about your friend. From know many other blind/visually impaired people it is unfortunately more common for them to develop substance abuse issues/deep anger. I'm fortunate that this has not been the case for me and i'm happy with my life. You can't help what life gives you so just the only positive thing you can do is accep…

I'm 22, It's a condition called retinitis pigmenosa that causes gradual deformation of the retinal cells from the periphery to the centre. It's technically getting worse my whole life but it got quite bad at about 16 and the rest has gone over the last year or so.

Voiceover on the Mac. Fn+CMD+F5 turns it on.

I really wouldn't know how to disclose it. I guess humorously but how exactly I wouldn't know. It would be a must as if i Was to meet up I unfortunately may need assistance in unfamiliar areas.

Being described as exotic made me ROFL hard. Awesome advice though, the analogy thing i've gotta figure out except no blind person ever actually strokes peoples faces even though i've been offered. That'd just be weird to a new level. Maybe should have taken them up on it and just started repeatedly poking them until they respond for self amusement's sake.

Indeed. I just need to figure out how to approach new people (logistically not because of nerves), that's probably a bigger issue. It's funny as all previous relationship/fling I never made a move, I was just myself and they just came at me :)

Cheers for the response, the convo/kino tips i'll bear in mind. Fortunately i'm attracted to girls of all different body types (even before I lost my vision) so that isn't much of an issue. It's good that you said I should be doing more adventurous things which I'm is something i'm working on but i'm already a half decent guitarist which helps. I use a long cane, no sunglasses indoors. I have minimal sight and can look roughly at people but there is a slight wobble of the pupil when very close b…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
