Another easy peasy bit that helps is replacing the dishes with a smaller one. People don't understand that square-cube law applies, and a dish an inch smaller in diameter means less food all around and less food stacked up. Measure the weight difference of one dish on two different sized plates. More than you imagine.

Yet we skipped some steps since concubinate earnt similar benefits as marriage(5 years of sharing a roof). So divorces never reached such high stakes as in the usa.
