And you know this, you obtuse cunt. Let's not get aggressive here. The fact that there is a space between men and women's wages is fact, but the causes are disputed. I don't think it is assumed that talking about "the wage gap" is automatically talking about the notion that pay discrimination is occurring, just like how talking about "climate change" doesn't imply talking about climate change by human causes.

Which is like saying: Strong men don't play victim, don't make themselves look pitiful and don't point fingers. They stand and they deal. The quote is imposing notions of "strong women" on the entire gender, which is just as silly as imposing notions of "strong men" on men.

That isn't a wage gap. That is the difference in pay between different jobs. It's a gap between wages. It's like denying climate change because of one reason or another, the fact that the climate is changing is fact, as is the fact that there is a gap between wages.

The problem is that it perpetuates unfair stereotypes of men and women in society, such as the idea that men should pay at restaurants. It's like saying "I don't see a problem with a firm hiring a man over a woman, because of the preconception that men are harder workers". By hiring men over women when both are equally powerful or even if the woman is slightly more skilled, you perpetuate gender norms through not only enforcing the notion, but by preventing women from entering the workplace. tl;…

What the fuck is a 'real man'? The opposite of a fake man? And if so, what is a fake man? Stop telling men to not rape as if all men are inherently rapists.

I'm a pretty hairy guy, and I was bothered and sorta confused by this commercial. I've never had a problem meeting new people or satisfying partners sexually, even though I'm covered head to toe in fur. But it might be because I'm not dating women... >_>

If she thinks you are incapable of love because of your gender, you should tell her the same opinion back to her, that she is incapable of love and is only after physical satisfaction. You may not be able to prove to her that you like her, but she can't prove to you that she likes you. Also, if she continues to have an irrational mindset about things, she might not be worth the trouble. Some things just aren't meant to be.

They're offering support to victims of assault :/ Sure they don't help male victims, but they still are helping people. It's only a matter of misinformation that they aren't serving men, and ideas can be changed. They are not a hate group because they haven't been educated.

This is a good idea! No statistics were raised during the presentation, but the general attitude of the whole thing was that women are usually the victim, and men are usually the agressor. Although I had to give all the guys props when we did the "what can you do to be safe at night" thing, because we actually came up with the same number of answers as women did".

There's enough level-headed people there that they could at least understand if I had an issue. I'm good friends with lots of the people there. But yeah, I'm tired of the only gay male space anywhere being Grindr :/

I would hardly call a sexual assault center a 'hate group', even if they are offering a biased view. I'll try to sit down with the coordinator next week about it and bring up my concerns.

Not to mention, it's unwise to try to impose our own ideas of what men and women should be on another culture. India has predated concepts of sexuality to begin with, so the ad in the OP is probably more of a good thing for that country in spite of how much I disagree with what it defines as "being a 'real' man".

If they were phallic, why would they be square? Because not all phallic symbols throughout history have explicitly been a penis? Read the article and I accept that obelisks aren't phallic by nature, but your line of reasoning is silly.

My city banned men from walking in the annual Take Back the Night event this year, "so that they could support women and transfolk from the sidelines". It was a spotty excuse to essentially ban men from participating in an event that is important to everyone, not just women. Since when did making nighttime safer only apply to women?

But feeling unsafe is not the same as rape. It's a shame for any person to make any other person feel unnecessarily uncomfortable in public places, but pulling the rape card every time you feel even the slightest bit triggered by something that someone else does doesn't get you anywhere.

I doubt women make as many cat calls at their fellow members of parliament in France as men do. There have been more cases of the latter than the former there, which is why the bill was introduced to begin with.

I don't really support quotas. I mean, if a woman wants to take a job as a politician or someone working in a dangerous industry, then that's their choice of career. I don't think that there should be "requirements" for people in any field of work, just so long as there are also not restrictions as to who can be in what field.

Then this is really just a disagreement as to what feminism is.

Well sure, I mean I'll admit that women overexamine some things and try to turn them into an issue, as I'm sure you guys do.

I agree. I don't agree with this board's labelling of feminists as she-devils. There are some feminists, i'm sure, that have less than noble goals, as there are many mens rights activists that have similar views. I feel like people here need to stop picking on feminism and target the people that are trying to push down mens rights issues to the bottom of the agenda, whom may or may not identify as feminists.

Because larger issues need larger focus? If men were facing more discrimination, I would be putting more focus on mens issues, but we aren't.

I would say that believing in equality isn't the same as taking an active role. Obviously, if a man and a woman both believe in gender equality and both support the rights of one another and see each others struggles, they will still be primarily focused on their own issues first. The reason feminists do little or nothing in terms of mens issues is because that's what mens rights activists are supposed to be doing. Remember, everywhere there is a womens rights issue, there are men doing nothing …

Yes, why not? Why must you group things by gender and focus on one of them? Why must you?

There are gender oppressive human rights issues that do concern both men and women, sometimes in equal ways, sometimes one more than the other. The point I'm making is that women do face more of those human rights issues than men do when you look at the global picture. Many places where human rights issues specifically targeting women occur don't occur to men, or occur less extremely. Anyone facing adversity deserves to be freed from it, but when women are the majority, it's important to put foc…

The first link I clicked made an awful lot of generalizations that I have not myself experienced, ever. My woman friends that date men split the tab 50/50 every time, ask the same amount the give, hell one of them even paid off her boyfriends $2000 debt! I think anything that can be generalized about women can equally be generalized about men.

In terms of mens rights, I feel that the following issues are of most concern: -Exclusion of men from female-dominated work places (especially education, healthcare and nursing, childcare, etc) -Male circumcision and the right to choose -Fatherly rights and equality in making custody decisions -Enforcement of masculinity by the media (especially the portrayal and notion of "a real man", "a ladies man", etc) -Male rape (by women or other men) -Genderizing of consumer products (ties in with my vie…

I feel it was relevant. If you personally tried feminism, and you felt it didn't cover your problems, what lead you to feeling that feminism was directly attacking you, leading you to attack it?

People aren't likely to be confused by somebody saying that they are an equalist who wants equality of the sexes. They are more likely to associate feminism with angry lesbians than they are to be confused by the word "equality" and its derivatives. You could just as easily argue that mens-rights activiss are misogynists. It is easy enough to look up the definition of feminism or womens rights, and it is also easy to look up mens rights. The fact that people have misconceptions about them isn't …

Well I would be opposed to something like that. Again, I believe in equality between genders. If a man and a woman start a family and work, they are equally responsible for children. I guess it all comes down to our own independent meetings with feminists. I think any woman who thinks the world should be only women is fucking crazy, and should think about what she would feel like if it were men that completely ruled the world.

'feminism generally compares every woman on the planet to the top 1% of men in the richest country on Earth and then claims that "men still have it better".' Do you have an article or science to back that up?

Well first of all, I don't know that feminism alienates people. I certainly don't feel alienated among feminists. Secondly, I identify more immediately with feminism for two primary reasons. One is that feminism is more prominent in people's vocabulary, and they are more likely to recognize it and possibly get a better idea of what I'm talking about. The second is that women, whether you like it or not, do face more discrimination in the world overall than men. There are few places on earth wher…

But I haven't met any feminists that feel that women should be above men. Every woman that I know who personally identifies as feminist just wants to be treated equally. I think that equalism and feminism are just two words for the same thing.
