I’m trying to situate FDS philosophy through my own prism of life experiences and perspectives. It’s better to be critical and ask smart questions that will make your beliefs stronger in the end, rather than simply digest the FDS handbook. I feel like when FDS moderators ban or block people for simply asking smart and critical questions, it looks really bad on FDS, especially when it's the askFDS subreddit and not the main FDS.

I'm looking for other perspectives and discussion on the topic of financial stability, because I think it is more nuanced than finding a guy who will pay for my food. I think I'm willing to compromise on the food because he has other good qualities. However, I want to hear what you all think, and I like to think I'm also a high-value woman (Ivy League educated, fit, sorta pretty lol) and I can find other options if I keep looking... but I'm 32 now and I feel like time is running out to have kids…

I live in SF (a liberal, progressive cosmopolitan city) so I'm sure he will be able to find a woman who will alternate paying/splitting with him. I don't want to lower my standards, but I struggle with also realizing that I'm 32 y/o now so I feel like my options are getting limited because I know I want kids.

Ok, so I felt compelled to bring up the topic after I paid, but then we had a deep, long conversation about how food finances will work while dating and I learned that his previous girlfriends alternated paying with him, so I think he wants the same set up. I think he is financially responsible and not materialistic -- he doesn't spend on frivolous things like nice cars and I know he is trying to save money to buy a house. But he was emphasizing to me that dating is a two-way street, feminism blah blah blah and that I should put in equal money on dates.
