Same here! I’m having my immediate family over for lunch, and preparing everything myself. There’s no rushing around, no dealing with dumbass in-laws, no being uncomfortable, and no watching my STBXW throw a fit because my son is being a hooligan with the other cousins. I get to enjoy a simple, peaceful holiday in my own home for the first time in over a decade!

He’s staying with me Monday and Tuesday night, with her Wednesday and Thursday night, and we are rotating Friday through Sunday nights. Ends up being equal nights spent at each home. It isn’t much more than the guideline - it calls for $109 a week and I’m just doing $450 per month. So I’m giving her 14 whole dollars a month more than guideline. And yes, I’m starting before the decree is issued because she’s moving out of the marital home next week. Doesn’t seem right to shortchange her when my s…

Thanks, I definitely appreciate the kind words. My son is the most important thing to me. I don’t mind being generous to her in the settlement. It’s just money and stuff; I’ll bounce back from this. It helps me sleep better at night knowing that my son has what he needs when he’s with her. Plus, I’m keeping the home and my business, which are very important to me. I definitely think there’s a shame and image management piece to this. She’s a leader at her church and comes from a devout Catholic …

Wow. You sound kind of scorched-earth. My STBXW is actually pretty level-headed and sensible with her money. Definitely not one to piss it away on stupid stuff. We actually agreed to split it to prevent either party from draining the bank accounts if they’re pissed off. The CS I’m giving her isn’t below guidelines - it’s actually more than what the state requires when calculating our incomes and assuming “substantially equal” care, which we are doing. Your last statement is fair. I initiated thi…

Do you mean you used the incorrect forms or didn’t have enough documentation?

Thanks! Glad to hear it’s going okay for you. We submitted our uncontested settlement in lieu of having a case management conference (which is required if you have kids in Maine) and are waiting on the magistrate to review it. If they approve it, we can cruise to an uncontested final hearing in January and be done.

I’m paying her a modest amount of child support ($450 a month) for 50/50 because I make three times what she does. I’m also paying for his after school child care, school lunches and health insurance premiums as I am a Federal government employee and have excellent benefits. It is important for me to ensure that my son has a good roof over his head, a full tummy, clothes on his back and a decent lifestyle at Mom’s house and mine.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
