Neat. Show your work. Write it down. Have it peer reviewed. Get it published. Get someone to reproduce it. Then give me a DOI.

The null hypothesis isn't that things are causally linked - it is that they are not. The burden of proof lies with you, the one who is asserting that they are. This is a simple fact. Facts don't care about your feelings.
/r/MensRights28/08/22 08:27 PM

You make these assertions and yet you seem to ignore my continual statements to provide actual peer reviewed evidence of them which has yet to be refuted by a larger weight of other evidence. My friend, when we're talking about complex topics, we're going to have to make complex distinctions that require using specific words to construct. Using precise language is far from being pedantic. Using less precise language is simply being sloppy and given what we're discussing and the action your propo…

That which is asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. The stronger the claim, the stronger the evidence required to support it. Have a nice day.

Sure, there's so many subreddits full of hateful garbage. The most annoying part of this, and the reason I posted it, is that it's r/funny. I just find it sad that such causal sexism is permitted in a main subreddit like that who's content is generally great and makes it to the frontpage so very often.

Such differences in procedure are the very systemic discrimination we seek to address, right there, written down - clear as crystal. If they want to discover perpetrators posing as victims, it has to be done for all or for none. How is this any question for debate?

Out of 120,000 men who the police determined were victims of domestic violence, the Men's Referral Service and No to Violence determined that most were actually perpetrators. I wonder on what basis they determined that and if there's any outcome data for those people. Somehow, I doubt their findings; but I'm we can take them on their word - no need to follow up or demand data when the very basis of our concerns is what they're asserting. There's no way they're biased at all. /s

School is fucking awful - children are simply not complete moral agents yet. it's like dealing with a bunch of amoral sociopaths who have impaired reasoning skills and no sense of actual risk and yet they also possess enough knowledge of how humans behave to manipulate them shamelessly. It's hell - especially if you're different and can't blend in or escape.

Honestly, every person could say this about the pool of people they like to date as well. The vast majority of people aren't terribly great for you. Doesn't mean they're trash for everyone - but you're gonna be sorting a lot to find someone that fits you and so you'll think you see a lot of uselessness or awfulness; and this is especially true if you try everything on for size without reading the tags or signs first. So yes, be more selective and you'll find less trash - you can't tell how someo…

I blame the silent majority you cite for ascenting to the minority's behaviour by taking no visible mass action and indict them for, by and large, remaining silent bystanders just watching us suffer. Don't talk yourself out of thinking that sometimes, rarely, the world isn't awful. You'll miss the rare times it's a decent place waiting for the trap to spring. That's how beat you when they can't win: they get you to beat yourself. (Also, the preferred term is women; it's far more inclusive. Besides, who wants to be confused for a TERF? Ugh.)

You see this constantly in the language they use for men and men's issues: toxic masculinity as an indivisible complex behaviour instead of simply addressing the internalised misandry and misogyny from which it results in order to avoid acknowledging the fact that misandry is a problem that exists and must be addressed, circumcision instead of genital mutiliation as though medical error didn't result in severe genital damage or that genital violation existed on a scale and somehow lesser forms w…

For what it's worth, I agree with you and that's how I interpreted your statement. It's probably the same choice I would make for someone I love too; there's no way to know what I'd do unless the sitaution happens though. That said, there's no way I could hold it against someone who doesn't - I understand that too; it's a very personal decision.
/r/MensRights16/07/20 03:15 AM
2

Agreed. In my view it's more a discussion around how the story is framed. Everywhere I see it it's portrayed that this young child has internalised the mistaken belief that they're disposable. It's extremely respectable that they would've sacrificed themselves to save their family - but they need to know it's always a choice and not an obligation because of their gender. Little to no discussion of that in the discourse that I've seen.
/r/MensRights16/07/20 03:07 AM

If that's always the case for you perhaps it's because you never communicate your ideas successfully? Frankly, their summary of their perception of what you said, even if it wasn't what you meant, is the same I would've given. Given that, perhaps you should go and work on your communications skills.

All stereotypes are socially informed and constructed. That's why we call them stereotypes and not flat facts. They're dependent on the society in which they are created. Don't mistake stereotypes which occur in your particular corner of society as being naturally occuring and the stereotypes which exist in others as artifically created (for some purpose) - it's a misleading, and potentially dangerously, illogical way of thinking about the world. At best, stereotypes can inform the gross structu…

Yes. That's the point - the incongruity of the statement draws attention to the fact or opinion that it expresses; when otherwise, it would be ignored.

Vulnerable people are vulnerable; that is, they're more likely to be victimised yet again in seeking assistance. This requires compassion - not contempt. We need to be there to tell them that it doesn't have to be like this; that it can be better, and so can we - together.

She tried to cancel Once Johnny Depp moved to defend himself, Amber Herd tried to continue her abuse and control by using society as a weapon against him. It's far worse than just attempting to 'cancel' someone - Amber Herd tried to take everything that was important to this person away from them - and, while they didn't manage that they did a lot of damage. Of course, the well known "women are wonderful" effect. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_are_wonderful_effect The women-are-wonderful effect is the phenomenon found in psychological and sociological research which suggests that people associate more positive attributes with women compared to men. How's this a mens rights issue? Do we know of cases where men have been denied medical care or received lesser care due to it being provided to a woman instead? Indeed - death rates do seem to be significantly higher amongst men. Therefore it is a men's rights issue - especially where disposability is a concern. No, it's not proven that men are receiving less care. However, it is interesting to note that, in countries where medical resources are stretched thin, the death rate amongst men appears…

The gender differential also appears to hold across cultures - including those in which smoking is uncommon. However, there are many factors which could influence the disparity - chief among them seems to be a lack of medical resources, interestingly. It'll be sobering to do a statistical analysis to figure out driving factors here.

I'm saying this article is a problem. You're saying we need to destroy the whole system and that we can only talk to liberal members about it. The ABC need correction and loud clear messages so that they can present inclusive articles about things that have a real impact on people in real terms. They do not need destruction and defunding. The vast majority of what we deal with on this sub are those things you suggest. Masculine victims of sexual assault and rape need attention to because of the massive impact it has on them individually. They need to have a voice and be heard too. Your argument relies on the problem we seek to highlight - the under-reporting and erasure of masculine sexual assault and rape resulting in people thinking it doesn't happen enough to pay attention to. The ABC are the national broadcaster of Australia. This article essentially erases sexual assault and the rape of men. None of the victims they interview are men. Well. There's a reason for the "why does no man ever get the hint?" stereotype. It's like, do you know how direct you have to be to be considered flirting with a man by men if you're a woman these days? You basically can't - you have to explicitly say what you want. This is the tactic to use - because it's true. That's almost certainly what many of them think. There's nothing wrong with rallying together with people who have quite a bit of experience with activism and the skills honed by years of media warfare - and a public perception of being the legitimate victims they are, unlike men. Additionally, the red labels excluding the blue "gender netural" restroom imply that only women's restrooms are family restrooms. Make sure to underscore that.

Indeed. It's not a blurry line - you're involving an innocent in your shit; in fact, that makes it worse. It's an excuse to evade responsibility - it's a dare you chose to do, not a mitigating factor that somehow relieves you of responsibility for your sexual assault. It's on the same lines as "it's just a prank bro" and just as fucking dispicable.

Um, Yeah, I understand the intent behind the term - but we don't need to invent new terms when existing ones will do. Toxic masculinity is a sexist term which is something only men can do - women can't exhibit toxic masculinity and you'll be laughed at if you suggest it. I prefer misandry and the internalised variant - anybody can exhibit misandrist behaviour; just like anyone can exhibit misogynistic behaviour. Let's have equal terms for equal awfulness. There's no need to play word games or de…

Of course it's not ok. Anyone who would justify something as "it can't be helped, it's just human nature and therefore justified" is probably an atavist who thinks there's inherent worth in cave dwelling, beating mate competitors with a stick and unironically eating the paleo diet. I wouldn't waste my time responding to them.

You know you can just say misandry, right? As much as people have tried to pretend it doesn't exist - it does, and this is it. There's nothing mysogynistic about these things. These are ways society is misandrist. Toxic masculinity is just a word people have to make sure we can't talk about misandry while not also talking about mysogyny. Don't let the world do that. They have different causes and different effects and we need to be able to talk about them separately. Yes, men can internalise mis…

On the contrary, males often greatly outperform females at physical tasks. Evidence is what I need. So far all I've had is rhetoric. So, what qualifies as evidence to you, then? You're missing my point. Not weight. Capability by trial and performance statistics. If all you want is a fair fight then it shouldn't matter what gender the participants are - only what natural advantages they do or don't have and that will be born out in the classification; no segregation needed.

Who cares, they're still women's sports no matter how many trans people compete. They're just women with a genetic advantage - like every other high performance athlete on the field. Let's not reinforce misandry by judging people's worth by how much women like them or how much they desire the company of others. Instead, let's judge people by how terrible they are to the others who cross their paths. In this case, it's the same but it's not always.

That line of reasoning seems logically self-consistent to me. However, you also can't say with certainty that sapience would've resulted if the abortion hadn't been performed. Of course, the power of any system of logic to produce useful results is determined by the verisimilitude of its axioms. It's an unknown quantity. I understand what you're getting at. The reason the preservation of sapience, where it has existed and where it may continue to exist (per previous discussion), is important as opposed to your proposal that the preservation and furtherance of the possibility of sapience in all cases is this: such attempts to erase the distinction renders choices which are not directly related to and resultant in the breeding of the greatest quantity of sapient agents possible either hypocritically moral or entir…

Sapience can be defined as having purposeful knowledge of, insight into, and consequently an interaction with, the world beyond one's self but it says nothing about the quality of the knowledge, insight, or interaction. Sentience no, as it is immeasurable. Sapience, having been once acquired and not yet to be having been permanently lost, yes. Thusly, as to people in comas or vegetative states due to injury during normal life, generally yes, as long as they're not brain dead and stand a reasonable chance of recovery. These explorations of grey areas do tend to veer wildly off topic, though.

I am a Men's Rights Activist who fights for social justice from a masculine perspective. My statements here and elsewhere in this thread have been edited only to address minor grammatical and/or technical issues which impact the clarity of the conveyance of my thoughts and not in any way which changes their substance. I must disagree, I very much care for the lives of other moral agents! But "human" life - especially non-person human life? No, I don't think that's inherently worthy of care - after all, for every implanted embryo, many more fail naturally - and we don't find many people worry about the rights of the unimplanted, do we? This is why I make the fundamental distinction between persons as moral agents and human life in general - moral agency, and the presumption of moral agency when it can exist or…

The extent of person-hood is admittedly difficult to quantify and distinguish. However, there does exist a clear distinction between born and not born - and that which is partially born is not born. It is an arbitrary, but it also a clear, hard and, in my opinion, natural line between unethical murder and ethical abortion. I find late-term abortive procedures to be extremely discomforting but I acknowledge that they may be necessary and I would not convey on them the moral judgement inherent in …

Which, for me, is very clearly the issue - generally, the foetus has no social standing, it has no experience, it has no life outside of its possibility for life. It has no memories or relationships. It contributes nothing to society. It is not independent in any way. To me, it is nothing which makes a person a person - it is merely a collection of genetically related but genetically distinct cells hosted within a body - in much the same way a tumour is. Therefore, in my opinion, it has as much …

Indeed. It fucking sucks for the person who wants to be a father, to have the person they trusted decide to rescind their consent to reproduce. However that, by no means, means they shouldn't be able to exercise that right. As a society we should be focusing on the rights of every party in a breeding relationship to rescind their consent. That's the equality we should be attempting to achieve - equality through the raising of all boats, and not through draining the harbour so that nobody can flo…

You see, the impasse you'll find here is that you believe that the foetus is a person with rights. Of course, killing a person with rights is unethical, bar many situations in which that person actively wants to end their life and can say so. I honestly don't think anyone would argue with that. The fundamental misunderstanding you seem to have here is that most people view foetuses as non-persons, including myself, and so they view abortion as the ethical change in state of a single person in ac…

It's amazing how we as a society think that people should be strong, independent and capable of paying their own way - and thus being responsible for their choices - but then throw that out the window when it comes time for a privileged few to pay for the consequences of those choices. In the worse way possible, even, we elect a scapegoat - a single additional person - to bear the burden without consent, instead of taking on that burden as a whole society. Together, we need to work to eliminate …

I didn't think women needed anyone to give them anything. It's hilarious that this is an argument that people use - that they're not allowed to have them. Honestly, I really hate the implication that someone being trans is because of mainstream feminism being so misandrist - and thus wouldn't be, if it weren't. A male's first reversal procedure caries a 62% success/pregnancy rate after 24 months recovery, in the most common (and effective) vasectomy procedure's reversal procedure (you see, they actually remove quite a bit of tissue); but if this is made mandatory, I'd imagine the less invasive procedure would be used, in which case reversal rate is only 90% after 24 months (but is also much less likely to be effective at eliminating the chance that the man can cause pregnancy). That's a 10% failure rat…

Societal and economic effects are the most pernicious confounders of them all - especially amongst those interpreting the data. Society is often for more complicated than a simple narrative can convey. Dominance of Men? Sure, in certain areas mostly related to physical control and violence. The flip side? I don't want men and women to be the same - I want them to be free. I believe we live in a sexist society in which masculine and feminine people enforce each other's behaviour in line with stereotypes - i.e. gende…

Society is enforced by all members - in a sense, traditional masculine gender roles are enforced by feminine members of society enforcing them by silencing masculine voices. So, in a sense, your statement and theirs are completely compatible.
/r/MensRights30/03/19 11:56 PM

It's possible to want gender equality and freedom for people to choose how they contribute to society regardless of how one presents (note that this does not mean others need accept that contribution in the way you want to contribute!), i.e. being against tradcon, without wanting the same things feminism, or at least the female supremacist movement festering within feminism, wants.
/r/MensRights30/03/19 11:51 PM

Traditional gender roles are large part of why men and masculine people are treated the way they are by our sexist society - always the protector = always disposable; always stoic = always alone. If we're going to deal with our grievances effectively, we're going to have to address the source of these issues - the traditional means by which our society enforces these concepts; i.e. traditional gender roles.

Yeah, I hate the word too; still, I'm not saying it's a new, undiscovered thing - I think it just gives a name to all the little ways people say and do things which clearly indicate exactly how they think of you. Things that, by themselves are just jokes or are so inconsequential as to be not worth the trouble of saying 'what the fuck?!', but taken together create a constant subtle reminder that you're not worth anything? Small dick jokes, women not wanting you around children, people assuming f…

Yeah, same - I've been getting signed out randomly as well. Personally, the structure of this is really rather too close to a lot of radicalisation/propaganda films I've seen. Indeed, the "traditional" notion of what it means to be masculine is just as limiting and oppressive as being unable to express those traits at all. Misandry and misogyny, sexism, from anyone is unacceptable - including misandry from men saying they must always care for and provide for others before themselves or they must…

/r/MensRights30/03/19 10:55 PM

Of course it was - because hatred is hatred - and supremacists are pretty much all the same; all that really varies is the target - dehumanisation is the first step and it's what legitimises the extermination.

I guess we can exclude gay, bisexual and pansexual men from that 80/20 rule (different market). Perhaps we should say 80/20 among 'interested' men/women instead - there are a lot of women I wouldn't have sex with at any price. Also, how are we going to account for the fact that 80/20 will be different for each individual? Isn't the defining nature of a commodity related to the fact that every unit is freely interchangeable?

Indeed, and it's insidious. That's why I use the term supremacist. Feminists want to campaign and enact equality for women - awesome, that's necessary. MRAs are concerned with, well, men's rights and equality for men - awesome, that's me. What must absolutely be rejected is when anyone shows or spreads hatred for the other. Hmm, well then, please allow me to be direct then, at the risk of seeming blunt. At this point, I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree because unless you have anything else to add I don't see this conversation going much further or doing anyone else any good. You do raise some good points and, in my opinion, your observations of the world are valid - I think we just have very different approaches to trying to change it, or not; as the case may be. Cheers.
/r/MensRights13/03/19 10:07 AM

Ah, I see. Thanks for restating your comment. My point is then that this is precisely what we're trying to change. Men can be and are victims and shouldn't be thought of as lesser for it. Reality might be awful and sexist but it doesn't have to be... so don't fight to maintain the status quo.
/r/MensRights13/03/19 08:48 AM

Why are you so angry? There's no need to be upset here. I'm helping to move the discussion here towards what OP can do now and going forward into the future and instead people like you keep going back to what they could've and should've done - with the not so subtle implication that they are to blame for their predicament. Sure, personal responsibility certainly is a thing. Perhaps I should've said culpability - very different thing. If I start hanging out with low lifes, I shouldn't be surprised when one of them does something low. [...] Uh, yes you can that is how you stay alive. People are often not how they appear and it's easy to misjudge. Nobody can be perfect or know everything, nor should they have to do so. Such a world is not worth surviving in because you can't truly live in a world like that.
/r/MensRights12/03/19 03:28 PM

Don't be so sensitive. IMO, this viewpoint is part of the problem. We need to be more empathetic and be allowed to show it, if we want to. My discussion with u/Macismyname in this thread does a fairly good job of conveying my point and I'd be curious to hear your opinion, having read it.

Frankly, In regards to the LGBTQI+ communities I think r/MensRights's opinion is, if it could be said to have one, by and large, irrelevant. We focus on how stereotypically masculine presenting individuals are disadvantaged in our sexist society and how we might work towards a true equality of opportunity for everyone. Agreed. Prevention is important - people need to defend themselves because the world isn't perfect. That said, might I suggest then starting another thread speaking generally about cases like this? It might serve as a better catalyst for discussion without making OP feel like they're to blame for somebody else's bad acts, while still permitting them to participate by invitation; not as a victim being chastised but, instead, as a survivor bearing witness.

Ultimately the culpability for the attack lies entirely with the attacker. Yes, people should defend themselves; but nobody chooses to be attacked or, possibly more relevant to this sub - falsely accused. You just can't truly expect people to be perfectly defensive all the time against everything and everyone. That would be a shit society in which to live. That's my point. Telling people not to expose themselves to danger is fine. Telling people who have just been hurt by someone else not to put themselves in danger is just a dick move - they already know. It just makes them feel worse and does nothing to improve to situation. Also, you have no way to know if they could or could not have prevented this at all; give people the benefit of the doubt, please. Even then, it's just not the place or time.
/r/MensRights12/03/19 02:14 PM

Your mistake was not see it coming. Let's not victim blame. It's not their fault they were fucked over. Nobody should have to live like they could be fired for having done what was asked of them. The order does no such thing. It forbids a specific person from using a specific term to refer to someone else. It does not compel the father to use any particular pronoun or identity. The order is constructed this way purposefully and, given the age of the child, likely with their intent expressed in the matter. Legal precedence generally does not work the way you're saying it does in cases such as these.

There's a difference in that one can't just change their mind and therefore change the Judge's order - it literally specifies a gender pronoun and gender identity which isn't to be used explicitly. It doesn't say which must be used, it says what must not. That's what it's nothing like your previous example and why, if it was, I'd agree with you - that state you presented would be impossibly insane, but as it is ordered, it is not.
/r/MensRights06/03/19 05:24 AM
1

Sure, but that's not what the court is ordering. They specifically specify what's not permitted. The order is not the strawman you're setting up to knock down here. If it was, I'd agree with you.

If I follow you around and call you an idiot all day, when you're not an idiot, is that still words and not fists? Do you think verbal abuse, by people you have no choice but to be around, is ok?

I understand where you're coming from but I think you misunderstand my stance here. The speech itself and the father's expression of disbelief are not being made criminal. Targeted verbal or physical abuse against the child is the crime here, and the Judge is clarifying that such an action by the father to their child, in this case, includes misgendering and/or obstructing medical care. Sounds reasonable to me. Freedom of speech is not impacted if a Judge rules you can't scream epithets in my fa…

Why? If they are trans then referring to them that way is going to worsen their psychological disorder, if they're not, well, it won't. We don't have enough information ourselves to tell if they are or not. Personally, such a restriction makes sense, as - if they are indeed trans - such treatment would be abuse.
/r/MensRights05/03/19 11:55 PM

I don't see anywhere that the mother is forcing their child to pursue this treatment. Where do you see that? I doubt the many doctors and psychologists involved would permit such a thing if they thought there was a chance that was the case (they check for that explicitly in their years of evaluations and interviews).

Well, given that this is in England and its four letters and starts with p, it's probably a slur on people of Pakistani origin (the slur is the demonym shortened to four letters). It's a rather offensive term, which is why it's censored. If you're familiar with US-based racial slurs, it's like calling someone with dark skin the slur beginning with 'n'.

I see your point and, yes, I suppose they (toxic masculinity and toxic femininity) both do and do not exist. As meanings, sure - my point is that that language obscures more than it illuminates and obfuscates the cause more than it helps in illuminating the issue to be addressed. You have a point. You could do without the misogyny. Frankly, the data analysis they have presented entirely lacks construct validity - it simply does not measure what they say it measures. If you don't measure if equal work is being done (in terms of dollars per hour, or some other rate measurement which controls for confounding factors) - there's zero point in saying the pay is unequal. Failing to control for confounding factors like this is a death blow for any statistical analysis done to su…

I don't care what "Incel Culture" as a whole thinks. Frankly, as you said, there are people, of any gender or presentation, for which the pool of potential mates - which would choose to be with them - is so small as to be practically zero. I just don't buy absolutes like "Only masculine incels are valid incels" - that's a sexist idea in and of itself. The term is a valid, terse descriptor. As you've probably heard elsewhere, toxic femininity does not exist. However, toxic masculinity doesn't exist either. I hate to be "that guy" but I think it's important to point out the fact that parents cannot consent to anything for their child. It's important to note the distinction that while parents can give permission for a medical professional to treat their child; they can never provide true consent on their child's behalf.
