Finding Child Support UnfairMy understanding is most teachers don't work in the summer, or at least some don't, and it's not too uncommon. What isn't fair is 50/50 custody with any child. 50/50 custody should mean both parents take care of the kid when the kids with them, and medical and school expenses are splits equally. The fact that a lower income parents can fight for child support from the higher income parent is not fair , but unfortunately the law until we can change it. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/06/26 04:19 PM
Any of you dads agree to homeschooling?Yeah, my experience exactly. I hate the public school systems, and private school is so freaking expensive, but homeschool has been a disaster. I'm not getting my work done, and kid isn't getting school done. It's also bad because it give the mom an excuse not to work, and try to get more future income out of me. Best solution would be a drop-off homeschool co-op, but the good ones are the price of private school! Edit: I guess at the center of the problem of homeschool is that divorced parents … | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/09/25 10:55 PM
Curious question for men who are divorced and aren’t interested in a relationship how do you handle your sexual urges without a partner?I'm still trying to figure that out. I don't want to bring my own trauma from one relationship into a new relationship. I also don't want to make similar bad choices, or overlook red flags, like I did in my previous relationship. My hope is that I will heal, and be able to enter a long term relationship where I can show up 100%. So celibacy is hopefully just temporary for me until I get stronger and rebuild. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/09/25 06:00 PM
Curious question for men who are divorced and aren’t interested in a relationship how do you handle your sexual urges without a partner? For me, I handle this by attempting to embrace the strength of celibacy while looking for other ways to fulfill the deeper needs of emotional intimacy and vulnerability. The first part requires embracing and accepting the fact that I don't have a romantic partner with whom I can be intimate, and that is my lot in life for the time being. I remind myself I have desires and urges, but they aren't needs. The second part requires a spiritual practice, such as meditation, and (in my case) a relations… | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/09/25 11:05 PM
5 years later and the ex is finally get a taste of real lifeIn some ways, divorce laws that favor giving lot's of future income to the low income earner in the form of child support and spousal support are actually harmful to the person who receives the money because it does not incentivize them to build their own life for themselves, and instead they rely on the hard work of others, but when the money runs out, they end up being in a worse position. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/08/25 08:24 PM
Please check in on your friends going through a divorce. So please, keep it in mind Check on your friends Every once in a while Even if they say I don't want anyone, know me or not See me at my lowest, you don't have to drop, drop, drop Don't have to drop by Nothin' you can do this time I don't want anyone, know me or not See me at my lowest, you don't have to drop Drop, drop, drop anything for me Just keep your plans, I hope that you never have to drop At the risk of feelin' dumb, check in It's not worth the risk of losin' a friend Even if they say "… | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/08/25 05:18 PM
Old seperation taking its toll on current relationshipMy experience is that most respectable, high-integrity, high-value women won't get in a serous relationship with someone who is still legally married to someone else, especially when they've only been separated for two years. While I do believe spiritual covenant marriage is different from government contract marriage, there are a lot of wisdom reasons not to date until the divorce is finalized. Yes, it's hard, and it sucks having to delay serious relationships, but it's a good time to heal, ref… | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/08/25 04:43 AM
Would I be a bad Father if I chose not to move somewhere close to my kids?I personally wouldn't settle for less than 40% custody. If my distance causes issues, I would try to change that. I know someone who would drive his kid an hour to school just to spend time together. So, in my humble opinion, an hour isn't far, especially if you are week on week off, but if it's resulting in a significant reduction in parenting time, consider other options. | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/08/25 08:13 PM
How is it legal that I have to pay my wife’s lawyer to build a case against me while I still pay for everything elseI agree. It's madness and injustice. Attorney fees should come out of the community assets, or out of alimony. To make someone pay on top of that is divorce r@pe. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/07/25 04:45 AM
Dads with a daughterTaking off with a child to another state is a common tactic to be aware of. Usually, it's illegal, but it does require a swift response using both law enforcement and the court system. The Silver Bullet Divorce is another common strategy to be aware of. I fought hard for my marriage, rather than simply let her walk away, and was rewarded with false accusations and lost custody. Take threats and past behavior as indicators of future behavior, and then put in place "protective factors" based on th… | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/07/25 03:03 AM
How many of us were actually abused?I was abused, emotionally, verbally, and physically. And I meet men all the time who are abused by their wives in one way or the other. I notice their wives seem to share common traits as well, such as blaming all the problems in their marriage on the man, and refusing to take accountability. The men are usually trying to take radical responsibility for their own part. They speak of the behavior of their wives, and while I recognize it as abuse, they usually don't see it as such. They make a lot… | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/05/25 05:58 AM
Now wife works out and loses weightTo be fair, men do the same thing. It can be a wake-up call to both sexes to get their life in order, take care of their health, and put themselves in a position to build new relationships. The problem is that we, as humans, have a tendency to get lazy and take our long term partners for granted, rather than taking care of our health and relationship. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/03/25 09:08 PM
Not attracted to women my own age…Perhaps there are still memories and emotional ties to your ex, which add to your attraction to her? I'm not sure how long you've been separated, but there may be more emotional ties that need to be broken. At the same time, a lot of people don't necessarily take care of their body well, especially in America. Poor diet, poor sleep habits, poor skin care routines, and a sedentary, car-centric lifestyle all contribute to faster aging. That being said, I've still seen plenty of attractive women in… | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/03/25 12:41 AM
Not attracted to women my own age…Point of clarification: Are you saying your EX-wife was gorgeous, and you are greatly attracted to her even now, despite her being the same age as you? But you find other women her age not attractive, and the only women you find attractive other than her are women significantly younger than you? How much younger are you talking about? Late 20's and early-to-mid 30's, or something else? | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/03/25 11:59 PM
Lost costudy after divorceSo on paper you have 0% custody, but in reality, you will actually still be able to see your kids? Regardless, I think there is an element of releasing control. You have limited control what happens when they are with their mother. You can make brief, non-emotional requests regarding parenting (perhaps use Chat GPT to help you with that), but you ultimately can't control what happens. You can be the parent who leans in when the kids are with you, and provides support, empathy, a listening ear, s… | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/02/25 06:27 AM
Lost costudy after divorceI'm confused. You lost custody but you still have 50% custody? That's a win in my book! Try looking into co-parenting counseling or a patent coordinator for co-parenting woes. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/02/25 12:38 AM
I voted yesterday, but there was no hope that it would solve the biggest problem in my lifeThere is a lot broken in the Family Court System, including alimony, child support, and all sorts of other things. However, custody is a big one that is being worked on. There is a bipartisan organization that is seeing real change happen through their work. Americans for Equal Shared Parenting is focused on equal custody laws that apply regardless of gender. The do their work by educating law-makers and forming coalitions across party lines. It's all about building relationships with law-makers… | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/11/24 10:24 AM
