Hi Dr. Bennett. Did you receive any backlash or criticism for focusing on men? Why did you decide to research into this area? Why does it interest you and what does the research fulfil for you? What were surprising or astounding findings in the data?

If the female of the species were as good at violence as men then they would have absolutely committed atrocities like men have. I think its not only that. It is also partly the societal setup males receive. E.g. they have to be the actors, protectors, decision makers. Anything else is shameful and a reason to be shunned. Is it naivety on his part to attribute women with only the most selfless of motivations or is he one of those weird man hating men I see more and more of these days? I assume i…

So in your opinion men should be held back, because they are outperforming women in the job market on average?

Men didn't evolve in body and brain to be aggressive, wealth builders or family providers. These seem to be socially constructed behaviours, meaning if you treat men differently in our societies you will see different behaviours. What do you mean by rights? This sub talks mainly about disadvantages men receive nowadays. I don't think that men being driven into suicide or taught to hate their own gender has any use to "society". I treat living things based on their ability to suffer. Not as asset…

They are abstractions of certain perceptions we have, so while the abstractions themselves are made up, the core they stem from is very real for us.

Mmmh, sure. I am not experienced with social media, it is hard for me to understand why it would work like that. I would assume if people posting hateful things and others following them mindlessly, there is already something wrong with them in the first place. They would latch onto anything, if not social media they would find other platforms. When someone is sexist, homophobic etc I usually look for certain experiences in their past, teachers, parents, and so on, which created a potential for …

What I am referring to is people posting shit on social media. I don't think that someone being sexist on twitter will cause more men to be murdered in Mexico. I doubt that preventing people from posting misandrist stuff on social media will help the problems you have mentioned significantly. The source lies somewhere else. I doubt that this social media hate speech results in men getting "beaten, killed, raped...". Again, the source lies somewhere else. Getting upset about it is like a gladiato…

I never experienced that cohesion between men. If someone would make such generalized superficial statements about men I wouldn't feel attacked, since I am a man too. I dislike generalizations and superficiality, so that would be a point of attack. I never understood many reactions to such things. Why would I care if people on facebook or twitter or other media scream sexist bs? You are going to stand up the next day just as the days before, it doesn't make a difference.

I swear it has its roots in the family. I am not so sure about that: One thing I didn't mention is that often times men (teachers, professors, research colleagues...) acted that way in my case. I would actually say it is very evenly distributed, only that the men show it differently (more aggressively) while the women show that kind of sexism subtly and passively. For me it is rather a result of social pressures, for example the fact that we inherently view women as something to be protected and…

Yes, I am from Germany and from school to academia I experienced similar things. Sometimes subtle (e.g. friendly / more friendly demeanour towards women/girls, cold/derogatory towards men/boys, giving women "extra treatment") and sometimes extremely direct (e.g. in the grading process, shutting down men in a hostile way). I am kind of "numb" towards it at this point. Often time it is actually funny in how brazen and ignorantly this sexism is enacted. They are so sure of themselves, but all of it…

Another thing r/menslib does, is that they take issues women have and try to push them onto men the way a woman would experience them. E.g. body positivity, clothing/appearance, gender/identity stuff, ... They seem just to be an extension of r/feminism, sharing their hurtful views and argumentative behaviour. It almost seems like satire.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/09/21 08:05 AM

I never believed these issues to be untrue, even when I thought I was a feminist. I thought that I was a feminist, until mostly the Internet taught me that actual feminism is a very different concept. What broke me from that kind of feminism isn't necessarily the things they believe, but the foolish way they act about their believes and what follows from them: insecure to any criticism / perpetuation of an echo chamber, emotional argumentation, close minded, you get the gist.

I think you mixed up empathy and sympathy: An empathic response is when your body copies perceived sensations of another, e.g. you start being sad when you see a sad person. You might not notice what your body is doing (it happens automatically) or you might not agree with it (hostile reaction towards other who caused empathic response). You feel the other person, but you do not necessarily understand why they / you feel like that. Sympathy is the same but switched. You see why someone is feelin…

There was a post about a year ago pointing at the bs of the GGGI: it measures equality of outcome it defines equality as women being equal or at a better standing than men => by the GGGI it is impossible for men to be in a worse position, if men were far behind in every category it would consider that as equality but not the reverse case, WTH??? The GGGI is a worldwide statement: "We dont give a fuck about men"

The "debate" is bound to be a loss for the MRA. Even if their points were totally valid (I didn't watch it), Vaush would have simply "intellectually outpaced" them with word salad in combination with some kind of emotional manipulation. While Vaush is very knowledgeable in certain topics, I feel like his experience in debating and his verbal ability have a very strong effect on his ego leading to such behaviour. I understand where you come from, I've been there myself. Was the reaction of the menslib mod predictable or did it surprise you? I assume the mod identifies himself with some kind of feminist movement, and due to that won't change his stance even when you face him with many good arguments. It is quite energy consuming to argue with that kind of extremism no matter from which ideology it stems. There are a lot of people on the MR side who do the same; strictly identifying themselves with the ide…

I see no need in defending the MRA movement. You don't need to be part of a movement to support men, it's more like a mindset. Identifying yourself with a movement seems to have rather negative consequences, since now you have to stand straight for all the shit the movement does. Why do you see a need to?

Both men and women were influenced by perpetrator attractiveness: they perceived an attractive opposite gender perpetrator as less harassing than a same gender attractive perpetrator. Shouldn't it be "Both men and women were influenced by perpetrator gender difference:..." considering that's the variable that is changed according to the second part? I would assume that if you vary attractiveness you will find similar behaviour.

If I had to guess, I would say that women are biologically disposed to discriminate differently than men. Maybe the sex of a human being is more important for you if you were born a woman, and thusly makes it a more important object of discrimination, if women are actually more sexist, which is too vague of a statement.

Where is the proof that it is a false accusation? Right now it is a Schroedingers Sexual Assault, and it was never meant to be anything beyond that judging from the context. Tbh, a lot of these women who are affected by this "dating gap" will bring damaging and dangerous beliefs into relationships, since they are affected by this "dating gap". Female and male power and lack of power seems to be widely misunderstood. A woman's biggest strength is her façade of weakness, a man's biggest weakness is his façade of strength. The problem is not being emotional. The problem is that thinking emotions justify your actions and grant you the right to be ignorant towards someone else's problems. The way I understand it, "toxic masculinity" is defining - in a nutshell - a macho, patronising or ignorant behaviour of men towards women. So, considering this definition, your example doesn't mean anything. If you argue that psychopaths are more likely to exhibit manipulative behaviour, me showing you a psychopath that was well socialised does not disprove your point.
