Welcome back, and what a good read! I'm all pumped to go out again after reading these.

True. It's a bit out of my zone and I have little experience there so while it's attractive, it really strains me to go unless I've got something to fall back on.

I'm with the professional; my club game is non-existent because it's out of my comfort zone and I used to try and rationalize the same way. Not saying MMM's doing the same, just that I get what ProfessionalAssh0le means.

What I've heard from experienced members: clubs are not for talking but for physical language. One of the things I've seen debated more is whether or not you should force yourself to go to clubs, and I agree that if you absolutely cannot enjoy yourself in a club, you shouldn't go.

I know it's not a popular opinion to share in this community No, that isn't an unpopular opinion here. The unpopular opinion based on my observation would be encouraging Betty to leave her boyfriend and go for OP.

Double cheers to anyone who is reading this line. I'm going to go back and read the whole thing, but experience has made me instinctively check the bottoms of long posts for a tree fiddy or a Bel Air. edit: went back and read the story. Sounds like you had skill and divine intervention going for you that day with the girl living across the street, then the fight breaking out! Though I'm sure you would have gotten with girl D even without that happening. I may have to read this again tomorrow for…

I'm against it and wouldn't do it myself, but this discussion has come up several times before. But, it takes two to tango and if my girlfriend doesn't respect our monogamy, it is her, not the other guy, who is complicit in the cheating.

How do you make out in a public place? Don't the bar owners get upset? Does it make other bar patrons uncomfortable? Not passing judgment, just asking.

I really used to be this way until I started having success (from both seddit and advice from my friends.) Once I understood how I didn't have to settle, I could be more particular about what I want in a girlfriend. My current girlfriend, it took me a while to actually start to feel anything for her, even though she was feeling it for me. It's going along well now, though I know that if things went bad, I wouldn't cling to the relationship out of fear that I wouldn't find someone else.

I'm going to respond to your title more than your post: no, it does not depress me. When I approach someone, they don't know me. If they reject me, they still don't know me.

ThrowawayPUA: It is generally a bad idea to promote seddit elsewhere on reddit. It does little good for the people you think it will help. And it only exposes seddit to more haters. We will be here when they need us. But they don't need us to push ourselves on them. I will also note that there have been some aggressive promotions of other subreddits that criticized seddit in their spams, so promotion could cause a reactivation of resentments.
/r/seduction01/08/12 12:57 PM

They leave this place alone, so let's do the same for them.

I agree with all of your points. There is a place for motivation and self-improvement stuff, but it's not here. I'm interested in pickup, not generic life advice.
/r/seduction31/07/12 03:30 PM

I agree with you in principle, but I still think it could be better than the system we have now, especially with the subreddit's constant growth.
/r/seduction31/07/12 03:27 PM

I've been getting the impression that some FRs are a workaround to seddit rules about not soliciting advice in the main subreddit/trying to garner more attention for their specific problem.
/r/seduction31/07/12 06:36 AM
6

I agree with your post. One of the issues I've had is just who is giving advice; not just in my threads, but anyone's threads. Unless you already know, how do you separate bad advice from good advice? I know the user flair issue has come up for debate several times, but I still feel like having some system by which users can positively ID sedditors with consistent good advice would be helpful.
/r/seduction31/07/12 06:32 AM

I'm not interested in cheaters for an LTR, but maybe for a casual relationship. I don't actively pursue taken girls, though; like NeutralBias said, it'd be nice to have them around to introduce me to their single friends.

I was aware he might think those things, which is why I only suggested he check it out and not try to hype it up to him. The only way he can really decide is if he comes here and looks around. Ignorance is ignorance, not a lifestyle choice.

I posted in that thread long before this post suggesting that he come take a look and decide if it's right for him. I disagree with the premise of your post, but not its conclusions. Vanity is very powerful and I'm sure there people out there who will share their secrets, only so if they can get attention or feel as though they've helped others. I'm sure some do keep quiet, but there are still plenty of people out there who'll, for one reason or another, spill the beans.

Before: classic case of "nice guy"/white knight. I knew nothing of how to flirt with girls or how to gauge their interest. I bought into the "girls only like jerks" nonsense and resented plenty of guys who now I understand were just confident (or even lucky; I hated them too.) I wanted to rescue someone or be rescued. After*: I'm flirting and understanding how to pick up girls. I'm pretty comfortable talking to women, doing light kino, and making eye contact (for many years, making eye contac wi…

I have major depressive disorder. It crippled me socially for over 10 years. I dropped out of high school and spent the next the next three and a half years either gambling or sitting in my mother's basement on the computer. Even after that, I spent all four years in college without a girlfriend. I let my self-limiting beliefs take over. Worse yet, I pictured myself as a white knight—I had bought into all the media lies about women wanting to be "rescued." I was also psychologically abused and m…

This is the whole reason I don't post FRs. I go out a couple times a week, try different things with varying degrees of success, but I don't think it's post-worthy and anything I'm going to submit has a question attached to it, so I'm just going to end up submitting it to /r/askseddit anyway because that's where questions belong.

I really dislike the blanket dismissal of any material that assumes men and women are different; saying things are different doesn't imply that one is better than the other. Even if it's not a product of biology and is entirely a social construct, it still exists, and people trying to interact socially need to act within that framework.

Good luck! I'll tell you a story of what happened tonight: I was on the train again and there was a guy who drank too much. I had a little bit too, but do you know what I did? I got his name and phone number, a minute after talking to him. I did it because he seemed like a fun guy—maybe he could hook me up, who knows? Point is, I approached a total stranger, even if he's drunk and male, I got a phone number. Maybe it'll pay off, maybe not, but I made the approach and lost NOTHING. I used to be s…

I don't care much for Doing_It_Right's taunt and I think you had a legitimate point in your post, but is this really necessary? No specific questions from me, I've just been very fortunate in getting good advice from many of our Japan-based and Japanese-speaking sedditors―I know I'm leaving some out, but I have to single out gyakunan and TofuTofu. Holy cow, those guys know what they're doing.

the first two girls I hooked up with here actually had decent english and where americanized enough that picking them up was a breeze. Great FR, but... you've been here three weeks and you've hooked up twice before? Should I be tackling the material here too? Or, should I just work on my general social skills, and let my interactions with women flow from there? Why do you think these things are mutually exclusive? I don't see why you can't do both.

At what point does pick up artistry turn immoral (if you do have morals)? Kind of a shitty thing to say for someone who has been posting here, isn't it? The way I initially phrased it is pretty poor, actually: I am in competition with him, but it isn't in the way in which I think of competition. The underlying message of both of our posts--improve yourself--is the key. I think we're getting there in different ways, but I honestly believe that trying to create and channel hate into something like this is counterproductive.

I elaborated further in a PM. I'll quote the major point I made: This is understanding proximate and ultimate causes. The handsome, charismatic, sociable guys are all proximate causes of failure. Let's say I'm at a party; if I'm quiet and don't talk to anyone, it wouldn't matter if I was the only guy there or surrounded by veteran PUAs. The outcome would be the same: failure. What is the ultimate cause of my failure? Myself. Expanding on that, take a real-life example: restaurants. If a restaura…

But it took me another 3 years on top of that to realize that it didn't matter—sure, I could say I lost my virginity now, but I didn't learn anything from it. I was still sexually immature. Dr. Phil makes a good point towards the end when a woman says it isn't "natural" for men to learn how to PUA (i.e., socialize with women.) I'm paraphrasing, but he says that someone taught these women how to put on make-up and pick their clothes, so men learning these techniques isn't all that different.

I wholeheartedly agree! This one time, my friends and I got to a good solid [9] before sarging. Anyway, we start hitting up bars and we're not having a lot of luck. The girls aren't receptive, nor very attractive, so it looked like our night was going to come to an early end. Just as we're leaving we meet an HB8 who tells us about this jazz club and how her and her friends were going to be there, so we tag along. We get to the jazz club and all of her friends, all HB8s and HB9s are sitting at a …

If a girl is 18-24 and attractive, why do she need to go to bars/clubs to find guys? Your question about online dating might have been relevant 15 years ago, but nowadays everybody uses the internet, especially young people.

A word of caution: I haven't been to China, but I think your friends are exaggerating the effect of you being a white first-worlder in China. I used to hear those same stories about Japan, that people would be taking pictures of you and that if you wore certain kinds of clothes and had a wacky hairdo, girls would assume you're a rock star and ask for your autograph. I didn't think it would happen and I was right—it doesn't happen, not to me, nor even to the people I knew that had wacky 'dos and …

I may be a minority on this, but I don't listen to what most of seddit says. From my experience, what most sedditors say boils down to "be confident and be yourself."

I don't see how; the woman rubbed her body (voluntarily) against the man first. The man is simply reciprocating.

No, but it's because I'm moving back to Japan in less than 2 months. However, I'm still far better off than I was a month ago before I read anything on seddit.

Rookie question here: if you don't respond, doesn't it make you look like you can't answer? Not to say that you're dignifying their question, but instead incapable of answering? I've done this before to other equally stupid questions, but I looked weak rather than in control.

Maybe going to the hottest club is the problem. I don't know, I've never been to Singapore. I'd still like to visit, though, both Singapore and Hong Kong.

I'm surprised about Singapore because the women from what I've seen always seemed attractive to me. I've also always heard that Korean girls were prudish. Interesting information all around, thanks!

Did you meet a lot of SPGs in Singapore? Was it difficult to overcome as being a Chinese-Amercian? What about Korea and Vietnam? I imagine the Korean girls were more receptive than Vietnamese, but I'm just basing this off perception. Do you speak any local languages? If so, has it helped and how? edit: punctuation.

Do you really honestly believe that even the most skilled of the so called "pickup artists" never deal with failure? Not a chance! But I do believe they can learn from the experience and move on. Nobody wins 100% of the time, ever.

I'm pretty new here but something I've noticed is that outcome dependence is that it's both painful and unproductive; the more time I invest in a single person, the more I become attached to the outcome. Thus, if things don't work out, I feel worse than I otherwise would have. That said, I hope things are going well for you! Keep us posted of your progress!

Your visual is totally off-base. "This personality has learned from life. He is an individual." — I'll use myself as an example. Have I learned anything? I had severe social anxiety and very little normal interaction with women. I wasn't an individual, I was weak. Weakness is not attractive to women (nor is it attractive to men.) What have I received from /r/seduction? Confidence and some understanding of social psychology. I'm not afraid of "not being who I am" because I am who I want to be.

First, how could it be that they're not posting on seddit? Is the lifestyle of the successful PUA really so all-consuming that it wouldn't allow them time to post here? If what you say is true, then are all of the FRs lies? I find it hard to believe that so many people would congregate here and lie just to solicit praise from strangers. Second, if the newbies and virgins as you call them are receiving bad advice, what's the good advice? It's easy to pick away at these things, but from all of the…

I'm going to speak in defense of both the sedditor and the businessman. The sedditor and the businessman only succeed when they fill the needs and desires of others; whether or not they have some kind of greater altruist outlook on life and the cosmos is totally immaterial.

I just read that thread not more than five minutes ago. I think it's good advice. I suppose one question I have would be: if I were to approach in Japanese, what do I say? I'm not fishing for a phrase, I mean more generally. With English and the novelty factor, a standard "hi, how are you?" seems like it has more value than saying it in Japanese.

No matter where I'm placed, I shouldn't be too far from Tokyo or Osaka, so I think I'll be able to swing the occasional visit. Long-term, though, I'm looking to meet someone for a meaningful relationship. I had thought about doing the Gas Panic thing the last time I was in Tokyo, but I ended up meeting a friend and his party, getting drunk, and going to karaoke with a couple of girls he'd shot some fetish videos with. Still had fun, though!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I can't forget my past: I've only been out with a few women and slept with only one, so I haven't been successful by really any metric. Keeping in line with what you've said, though, Japan this time is going to be different. I'm not going to let myself down again. :)

Thanks. I tried a few cold approaches when I was there the first time, but they always went over like lead balloons. I tried to do it in Japanese, which might have been a mistake. That said, any advice on good approaches? It sounds like I might want to speak English at first rather than try Japanese.

I don't have any offhand, but I'm sure appreciative of your support. :) I have almost no experience approaching women, so I guess I'll just have to get in practice and hope for the best. I don't know exactly where I'll be yet, but I requested the largest cities the company serves, the smallest one being Okayama.

Ha, I'm already pretty quick to skip over anything at TGI Friday's. I didn't know that about the international parties; I would have assumed that being on mixi, they would cater to a younger crowd. Nagoya does have a HUB in Sakae, I think. I never made it out that way, myself. edit: oops, TofuTofu is somewhere else. :)

Thanks! You supply the advice, I'll supply the drinks. :D What about going to/hosting international parties, etc. organized on mixi? From what I've seen, it seems like there's an undercurrent of "meet foreign guys," though I've never been to nor organized one.
