yeah, i don't want to go on SSRI. You just need time. Do the normal things anyone would do when they are grieving like walk (getting a dog helps you walk more), pursue hobbies, hang around friends, journal, see a therapist to talk to you about the divorce grief. I've gone nuts on the video game playing at night and watching comedies before bed. It will pass. You sound like you're well on your way to closing that chapter of your life.

???? We are divorcing and I have no argument for her keeping my name.

I do divorce for a living and most of my clients keep the husbands last name. It’s usually for the kids. Unless the husband was a pedo or criminal or abuser. Then they may seek to change the kids names. It may also have to do with them being known professionally under their married name. My wife is keeping my last name bc she just never liked her maiden name. I don’t think it’s a mind game lol. It’s usually practical.

I wish people on this subreddit would understand every single state has different laws that govern divorce and child custody and just about everything else. With that said I don’t know of any state has ‘instant and absolute divorce.’ Most states have waiting periods. Like in Texas it’s 60 days after filing. The only way to waive that 60 days is in domestic violence is involved. I also don’t think any judge will care whatsoever about your wife’s sex work.

Nah you’re good. I feel so incredibly used and mistreated that I’ll need longer than I probably think to trust or want to be intimate with anyone. My wife was my kids stepmom for 10 years and she was so incredibly angry with me that I didn’t wish her happy Mother’s Day yesterday. And I was like ‘I thought you might take that as mocking you.’ Then she went on to say how that entire time being a good stepmom was worth nothing to anyone. And I was like no one had said that or is saying that and I’m…

It’s grief. It will take you maybe 2-3 months just to stabilize. Look up the steps people go through. You’re going to be doing all of those steps. Maybe in different order. So give yourself some grace. Start seeing a therapist. Friends and family. Start exercising. Then you’ll probably need to get to work on the divorce and uncoupling. Then you got a lot more work than today. Today is just about surviving. Getting sleep. Eating. Not spiraling or doing anything stupid. Stay grounded. Lean on peop…

I think I’ve heard a lot of women say this. Who cares? You should probably find some dates on those apps if you just keep to it. Just swipe right. Have a good profile. Go to a completely different subreddit that deals with dating and double check your profile. I doubt you have a perfect profile and women are like 5’11! Gross! Also you’re probably being judgmental about the smallest things too that might be considered ‘barriers of entry for dating.’ How many fat women are you swiping right on?

I scanned that. You aren’t getting back together. You cheated on her and she’s dumping your ass. Your child support will be 30% with 3 children. And I guess you’ll pay around 24% in taxes. So you’ll keep 46% of your pay check and lose half the value of all your shit. Good luck buddy.

Oh. Is there no way to get into to court and get some orders in place prior to the year? That’s insane.

You know I think it’s the sub being most guys who are in their first year of divorce and separation. So it’s every single event in the year. How am I going to handle [Mother’s Day/birthday/thanksgiving/christmas]? I think it’s a no brainer in the second year: you just do. And the majority of comments are just let your kids get them something for those events. It’s still their mom. I think that’s one reason they always say wait a year. It seems like an arbitrary amount of time. But it’s something…

It doesn’t state they were married when she got the bonus. Maybe if he was married at the time. It depends on what the order says. You can always sue for post divorce division of community property. Like if it wasn’t divided in the decree. But I bet there is language in OPs final order that says she gets all the money in her bank account. So whomp whomp. If it’s a question about his child support, it’s legally irrelevant how much money she makes and what bonuses she makes in calculating child su…

I’m 10 years older and I did the same thing. We’ve all been there. I’m sorry this happened to you. You can only live life forward. You did what you could to save it. You weren’t a coward and weren’t a cheater. You did your relationship right. But you were right. You can’t carry the whole load and continue to do that for the next 50 years. You were right to walk away even though it’s like cutting your limb off. I know it hurts. This won’t be forever.

Trials are for unreasonable people. It’s also why this process takes up to a year. To let the trauma wear off enough to let people be reasonable.
/r/Divorce_Men07/05/24 06:16 PM
2

A trial costs you more money. Why go to trial if you can settle in mediation? Why go to mediation if you can just do an informal agreement? You also have no idea what the judge is going to do. It’s better to agree than to take a chance and let a third party decide.

You can put whatever you want in your decree but it’s not enforceable and the federal government won’t care. Their rules are their rules. I don’t live in a state where we do alimony. So I’m glad to hear the rules changed.
/r/Divorce_Men07/05/24 04:10 PM
2

I thought alimony was taxed. You called it tax free. Child Support is not taxed. So increasing CS saves her money. Also it’s probably easier to increase child support. Her reducing her your CS by 50% and asking for this very large number for alimony seems like a bait-and-switch. I would worry she would ask for a modification immediately. Also if she starts paying income taxes she will probably want to take back some of those kids for her taxes. Maybe all of them. You can’t really contract who cl…

I think a book I read said the longest could be 3 1/2 years. But around a year is where it subsides. Journaling has been great for me too. I have some form of exercise I do almost every day. Even if it's just walking. It's important to recognize it's legitimately grief and you have to go through the process. You can't short circuit it. You’re still in divorce depression but I’m told it leaves. You get out. That isn’t saying much to someone in the hole. But it’s not like regular depression that stays with you your whole life. It’s an event. I keep thinking it’s like my wife suddenly died. My relationship died. It’s grief. But millions of people have been through it. I’m going through it now. Why would they give you above your half of the equity? It may continue to increase in value but you wouldn’t be paying towards that mortgage, taxes, insurance and for repairs. Unless you want to continue to have financial entanglements with your ex.

/r/Divorce_Men03/05/24 06:07 PM

Do you think your house will go for above asking price? Like how many repairs need to be done? If they give you 50% of your equity you don’t have to pay the 6% (3%) realtor fee. You wouldn’t have to deal with buyers asking for repairs or chip away at your asking price. This is purely a business deal at this point. You need to put your emotions in a closet and do some pen to paper.

/r/Divorce_Men03/05/24 01:24 AM

Im not sure I get your question. You can agree to a child support amount that would differ from the standard math problem the way the law would calculate it. Yes. Online calculators are reliable. Our state does 20% of net income for one child for example. There a few things that probably don’t apply to that changes that amount.

There is the dumper and the dumpee. She sounds like the dumper. So she feels guilt and she’s ’building a case’ not for your benefit but for her own peace of mind. You don’t get anything out of her autopsy of the dead relationship. You’re the dumpee. So you feel the blow. It crushes your confidence. I would just keep a low profile and quit talking to her.

Why do we get out of a ten year marriage and immediately start thinking about dating before rebuilding our lives and discovering who we are as individuals? Of course you have low self confidence. That’s like in step 1 of 19. So yeah you’re no where near dating. Don’t you dare start a relationship. When your rebound dumps your ass you’ll find an even deeper level of depression than you’ve found because you didn’t put on that work to be yourself. My stbxw was a huge feminist. But I really think the thread was lost at some point. She wasn’t like your lady and didn’t cheat on me. She did make me rethink some things about myself at the end of a 9 year marriage and one of them is this masculine/feminine thing. She did do the ‘I’m not happy thing.’ I mean women should have a checking account and a chance in the workplace etc etc. But it doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t display confidence, strength, and leadership. You’re asking specific legal questions and should talk to your lawyer now. Interest rates are so high right now I don’t imagine a refinance and buy someone out of their equity is worth it to people right now. Haven’t seen anyone do it lately. Business probably requires an expert. So I’m not sure.

Yeah. I think some larger percentage of men and women don’t want to be husbands and wives but try marriage anyway. You either run through to get what you want to move on like changing jobs or you don’t get what you wanted (which wasn’t a husband or wife) and move on. And I don’t want to go too deep into my opinion on this bc it sounds like a rejection of feminism and even anti-trans but I think flat out rejection of masculine and feminine gender roles has left people confused on what to do in th…

I do this for a living and 6 months is fast. A year is the median. I know people will give you nightmare stories where it goes on for many years. And yes I’ve had one lasted 3 and 1/2 years. But those are so rare and the judge here will literally get angry with you. But things can happen in cases. I'm sure you're doing the right thing. i wasn't questioning you. I'm just personally not a big fan of dragging children down to the courthouse to pick a parent. Yall can downvote me for that opinion. There are easier ways to get custody than doing this. Most of the times a parent will relent and just let it happen before you get there. Especially if they're older children. What are you going to do to a 16 year old with a driver's license? Lock them in their room?

The court doesn’t have to follow the child’s wishes. In our state the child can talk to the judge at age 12. I’ve been practicing for years I don’t actually like pushing this. I think it’s weak and it’s a lot to put on a kid.

I’m saying young adults don’t always call their parents back. If I got upset every time my 15 year didn’t text me back I’d be upset all the time. They’re kids. You leave the door open to them. You love them. You support them. Also there might literally be something else going on with them that has nothing to do with this young man’s parents getting divorced. He needs to talk to his son (the 21 year old man). And try to do that by being direct and assertive.

So your child support isn’t some flat dollar amount based on income? Like 20% of your net?

What are Child support expenses? You mean like medical expenses where you pay half?

Day 5 is going pretty well. All my neighbors are really nice. The house is coming together well. I was hanging pictures tonight and I got my shit together enough to make dinner in the oven. It comes together faster than you think. Good luck man.

Women need their girlfriends and men need their guy friends. Being real clingy is a turn off.

I don’t really have hate. I have anger. I’ve consciously tried not to transfer it to others so they can be my outlet. Whether it’s a family member, co worker or a random guy in traffic. I’m doing all the healthy things like exercise, go to therapy and do the homework and spending time with men. I’ve tried talking to another woman and I just realized I’m not ready. I don’t really have an answer for you besides just acknowledging your valid emotions and try not to be a worse person in the world an…

You’ll need to go to court and modify the orders and it cannot be done without a signature on an order by a judge. So the answer to question is no.

What are you trying to accomplish? If you’re looking to go to court to get ‘justice’ or ‘the truth out there,’ yeah I would say you’re wasting your time. The purpose of a divorce court is to deal with children and division of assets. That evidence might be useful for those discussions. But if not then just do a quick divorce and be on your way. Healing from being in an abusive relationship isn’t for divorce court. If there is likelihood for it to continue into the future then yeah of course. You…

That’s what the code says but most cases settle and we normally don’t agree to the most one could get in a theoretical trial.

Your marriage may be over but you will need to coparent which does usually mean you are aligned on child rearing. It’s called co-parenting.

You’d need to be married for 10 years or there be Domestic Violence. A judge might order in a temporary orders hearing to keep a household afloat. But I don’t think that would happen in your case. Honestly dude all you have is a house with some equity. Get 50/50 and move on. Don’t give her any more. If she demands go see the judge. The hearing will last 30 minutes on something stupid like this.

That’s news to me. I’ve been a practicing family attorney in Texas for 14 years.

“We have 3 children.” Reason enough there not to die buddy. Your kids are precious. Cherish them. Be their dad.

No spousal support here unless there is DV. A judge could order spousal in a temporary orders hearing maybe even if she wouldn’t qualify for it at final but I doubt that here. But all that money you have in savings and retirement is half hers. If you came into the marriage or inherited property that’s separate and yours to keep. It’s a community property state otherwise.

His question really isn’t about spousal support. She wouldn’t get it anyway due to none of the facts available to meet the factors here. Unless OP is leaving stuff out. But it’s not limited to 6 months max.

Brother go to court. She cannot refinance and give you the equity. I guarantee it. Sell the damn house and split 50/50. Anything less is you getting fucked.

I’m day three of living in my own place and I think I can honestly get quite used to this. It’s going to take me weeks to get place put together and unpacked.

Pretty sure they’ll just make her pay it back. Which means her mother will have to pay it back for her.

You know what’s funny? I gave my wife a scrap book of the year on Christmas. I made myself with keepsakes and printed photos. 500 pictures that categorically showed we had a good time and a good life. We traveled. We went to plays. We played games outside. We hung out with friends. We ate at nice restaurants. …she said the same thing. I ignored her. I did this. I did that. She was unhappy. She wanted to be somewhere else. I didn’t know she would ask for a divorce literal months later. I knew we …

I think the leadership part rings true. I considered it 50/50 so I never liked being completely in charge. She actually asked for a divorce in marriage counseling. Which made me feel like an abuser. She said she did it so I could have support. From a complete stranger. I got up and left.

I should have been more specific. She seems to have defined it as some bygone era in her 20s and I hope she can find that in her 40s. Things will certainly change and I hope she finds it.

Seems like you’re asking for legal advice and I don’t feel comfortable giving that. I would just let your lawyer know and the mediator know. Wouldn’t sign anything that was based on misrepresentations.

I don’t do nofap or whatever but I try not to think sex very much or masturbate. If I need to just get it out of the way I will just be quick about it. But yeah it doesn’t help me much with my feelings about the divorce

I have a weird story in the sense they all love me and didn’t want her to divorce. I was told it was her aunt the convinced her to stay with me for two more years. They still like my social media posts. I love them all too and it breaks my heart I won’t see them for holidays. But the family lines are clear to me. I still love them all and wish them well. It’s very different in reverse. My family just absolutely hate her now. I wish they wouldn’t. But my side is like ‘I love my brother/BIL and th…
