Yeah exactly. And it's a tough pill to swollow when you come to that realisation.

Those last two paragraphs really nail how I'm feeling about opening this whole "Pandora box" of discoveries when I'm reading this book. I think it's going to take me quite some time to really work through all these things as come to terms with the past, but I am sure it is only for the better. As you say, we need to read a LOT more that just this sub and this is the conclusion I've also come to. But at the same time, I would say that this sub is the perfect "home base" to start the leveling up j…

Humm I will be adding Gift of Fear for my 2021 reading list. Without giving away too much from the book, what would be your key takeaways from it?

Very true! The distance should help with not only getting away from the situation but also gaining some perspective on the situation as a whole. Best of luck and stay strong! Sending you hugs!

The book, so far, has been extremely eye opening (I'm only page 87 already) with regard to my past relationships and even that with my father, who as I've come to realise, is still abusing my mother. If you have been hurt in the past, or if you're currently in a situation where you find yourself confused and/or questioning your sanity, I definitely recommend this book. Remember, abuse is not only physical but can also be emotional too!

That almost-last part "It's much easier to avoid or get out of bad relationships when you have confidence in yourself" really rings true. High five right back!

I think this is what I'm a bit of afraid of. How deep do these scars go and long will it take for me to be able to see things objectively. I'm holding onto quite a bit of anger at the moment from realising eveything that's been done to me. The manipulation, the confusion, has gaslighting and even convincing me that I'm the crazy one. It's a bit much to take it all at once but I know that once I work through these things, it can only be better. I'm sorry that you had to deal with it too! Sendung …

Right?! I don't think that when we are in that moment we realise what is happening or really grasp the magnitude of the situation. I would also say that one of my key takeaways from this book already is that all those horrible things that were done is actually called abuse!

I think we need to start collecting these gems for an "FDS translates" handbook 😂

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
